"Can't understand what is happening to me,
This isn't real, this is only a dream,
But I never have felt, no I never have felt this way before,
I'm looking down on my body below,
I lie asleep in the midst of a dream,
Is it now could it be that the angel of death has come for me?" Iron Maiden: Heaven Can Wait

Being a massive Chris Reeve fan it's surprising that never watched this film until about 10 years ago when the Mrs told me about it..and instantly loved it and it had a massive effect on me
Straight off the back of Superman, Reeve spurned the Hollywood offers of more action roles and returned to the area he felt most comfortable in...smaller independant style films that fitted his theatre roots
I'm not a fan of love stories or period dramas but for some reason i think this film is fantastic-the small cast all do excellent jobs-Reeve as the obsessed Richard Collier, Jane Seymour is the epitome of beauty and the always reliable Christopher Plummer as the controlling and jealous manager. The costume design is spot on and really makes you believe you are in that era. The cinematography is often very beautiful and the nod to Georges Seurats famous painting is very nice. Unfortunately some scenes-though well lit, seem to look flat and washed out due to the poor transfer and i would love to see the film given more respect with a decent restoration and additional content with a re-release
The highlight is the score. The musical composition by John Barry is one of the finest (in my opinion)in the history of cinema-it really does emphasize the emotional aspects of many of the scenes and its nice that he changed and developed its main theme to maintain a consistency within the film
A cult/fan favourite which really does take you to a place, somewhere in time where true love exists ❤
