Getting excited to shoot the #milkyway in 2018. 🙂 This was one of my early Milky Way shot and I was super thrilled to capture a bunch of #planets and distant #galaxies, most notably the #andromeda in the upper left and they all appear as a mere speck in this picture. This week is also the 28th year anniversary of #nasa #voyager1 picture of #palebluedot and this picture reminds me of the words from #carlsagan “astronomy is a humbling and character building experience”. It’s quiet amazing to think that among the billions of dots #life as per our knowledge today exists only on #earth. .

All is not lost! #Humanity is still capable of greatness through #science and through the patient #study of the #universe. #OzmaRecords, which references #ProjectOzma, celebrates humanity’s drive to #explore with this gorgeous 3xLP #ColoredVinyl #Vinyl issue of the #GoldRecord attached to the #Voyager #SpaceProbes, which were launched in the late 1970s. Each craft is currently headed deep into #interstellar #space; each carries a message to whomever may eventually find humanity’s whisper to the #stars. Project Ozma was the name of #FrankDrake’s original search for #extraterrestrial #intelligence with the use of a #RadioTelescope. His project would eventually #evolve into #SETI, the #searchforextraterrestrialintelligence. #Hope for humanity. Hope for our #planet, a #PaleBlueDot in the #dark. #HailSagan #CarlSagan.

This painting is a dramatization inspired by stargazing out in Utah, about an hour west of Salt Lake City. Ever heard of the #palebluedot? It’s a notion that Carl Sagan wrote about when describing a photo taken by the Voyager from 6 billion km away, in which the earth is a single pixel in the photograph. It expounds the idea that the earth is so small in relation to the massive universe, and if the earth is so small, then so must be we as humans, and even further, so tiny must be our experiences. Reflecting on this reminds me to put things into perspective, to forgive easily, to cherish the moment, to remember my place in the universe. Having said this, I painted a single shining star in the center, because regardless of how expansive the universe is, we all have a shining star at the center of ours, in our own way. Who is it to you?

This is an image of the earth taken 3.7 billion miles away. And as Carl Sagan so eloquently put it: "Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark.". #carlsagan #palebluedot

With such low temperatures, extreme seasons & total isolation at the facility, it makes for an ideal #analogue for deep space exploration. -

... doesn't look like much? Well... "that's here... that's home"

@nasa's OSIRIS-Rex spacecraft snapped this image of Earth and our Moon from a distance of 63.6 million kilometers.

The little emissary of Earth launched on Sept 8, 2016 and is currently en route to the asteroid Bennu. The goal: to get a sample of the asteroid and bring it back home.

Also there's #canadian tech on board! @yorkuniversity

This stunning #cosmic snapshot is so profound if you really think about it. All those millions of #galaxies out there with their own planetary systems, and who knows what else. One thing is for sure, we are not alone out here in this vast #universe. To me it's somehow comforting while at the same time extremely humbling to think we are on this #PaleBlueDot floating through a #cosmos larger than our minds can conceive... puts a lot in #perspective - i.e. #DontSweattheSmallStuff #Repost @nasa ・・・
Twinkle, twinkle, many stars! Several stars and distant galaxies are visible in this Hubble Space Telescope (@NASAHubble) view of a galaxy cluster. The light from the galaxies in the cluster has become redshifted by the expansion of space, making them appear redder than they actually are. By measuring the amount of redshift, we know that it took more than 5 billion years for the light from this galaxy cluster to reach us. The light of the galaxies in the background had to travel even longer than that, making this image an extremely old window into the far reaches of the universe.
