So, we’re halfway through the first month of the year. Even though we’re only 2 weeks in, I have already had my fair share of reminders
- You can not be the best version of yourself for others, if you don’t know how to be the best on your own. This is why getting to know yourself is important. Stop relying on other people to make you happy, or filling up gaps in your life with temporary things or people. What happens when it’s just you on your own - do you even know who you are? Do you like who you are? You’ll never know if you don’t spend time on your own before involving someone else.
- Fix yourself first before always being the one who tries to patch up others. I read this quote “May we believe in healing ourselves before attempting a rescue mission for someone else” and wow did that resonate.
- Sometimes you need to just listen more. There is often an explanation for behaviour, and instead of being like me and trying to fill all silence with noise, often it helps to take a step back and observe before responding when something is challenging.
- People you care about can also hurt you. This is PAINFUL. But again, there’s often a reason for it and sometimes you just don’t get an explanation for things in life. That’s a BIG lesson.
- You can only do so much. You can give and give and give, but make sure you’re not wearing yourself out in the process. Again, you can’t always solve everything and you won’t always be understood.
- Be obsessively grateful. Be happy just to have your coffee and have even one decent person in your life, or for just being able to experience something. Allow yourself to be happy in that moment, instead of thinking what will happen once the moment is over.
- Speak up. Express how you feel, what you think, and show appreciation for people who are grateful for you. Half the problem I feel with how people are nowadays is there’s a lack of communication. Think how many things would be easier if people were just honest, even if they were scared. Do people appreciate you when they have you?
- Research things more before signing contracts (me lol)
