DONYALE LUNA is considered to be the world's first black supermodel. After being discovered, the Detroit native moved to New York City & in Jan. 1965, a sketch of Luna appeared on the cover of Harper's Bazaar. A year later, Luna became the first black model to appear on the cover of British Vogue, and many other international fashion magazine covers. A frequent face in American, French, & British Vogue, the 6"2', almond eyed model even had mannequins created after her likeness. In 1975, she appeared nude in Playboy and was apart of Andy Warhol's "Factory". ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

#AboutLastNight: Ok, Im in my feelings...but had an absolute BLAST at the #BronnerBrothers night fashion show. Extremely thankful to @scenebysatchel @cdeventsinc @mrglamrocksoul @beatbyb & #MychaelKnight 😇 who were the very first genuine souls I met after moving to Atl. Just a shy girl from the country (still am 🙈) wanting more out of life and they gave me numerous opportunities. #FunFact Chereka taught me how to strut 💃🏽 😝When I expressed that I wanted to Act, they were the ones who said DO IT! Always had words of encouragement and pushed me to believe in myself. Grateful to have you all in my life 😘❤️ @nickeymartin truly a blessing to have you BEAT this face again after ALLLLLL these years. So nice to finally catch up! And to the VETS who STILL GOT IT, such a joy seeing your beautiful faces! 😍 Last, #KittysLitter y’all still dancing y’all @$$3$ off! So proud of EVERYONE ❤️ you all. #DawnHalfkenny -Gotta hashtag my name in hopes that one day you all will stop calling out my government 🤣🤷🏽‍♀️

@Regranned from @fashionbombdaily - Late designer @mychaelknight did a beautiful tribute to black fashion icons for #blackhistorymonth . We are reposting them as a tribute to his devotion to his craft and as a tribute to those who paved the way for us today.
Today’s spotlight goes to
#RENELACOSTE , the legendary tennis player off of which the @lacoste brand was built. He’s the child of a white English father and a black, Jamaican-born mother, and a member of the famous “Musketeers” team, and a star of the courts at Wimbledon, Forest Hills, and Roland Garros. He won the French Open three times (1925, 1927, and at Roland Garros Stadium in 1929), Wimbledon twice (1925 and 1928), and the U.S. Open at Forest Hills twice (1926 and 1927). The birth of the Lacoste crocodile came from a bet between the members of the French tennis team in 1925. Lacoste bet the captain of the team, Pierre Gilliam, a crocodile skin suitcase if he (Lacoste) won the match. He didn't win the match, but a journalist reported the story, saying “The young Lacoste has not won his crocodile skin suitcase but he fought like a real crocodile.” As early as 1927, his friend and great sportsman, Robert George, designed a crocodile with its mouth wide open, which René Lacoste wore conspicuously on his blazer, thus the beginning of an iconic logo & brand.

Repost from @fashionbombdaily - Happy #blackhistorymonth! All this month, we’ll be highlighting #blackdesigners who have made waves in the #fashion industry. Late designer, @mychaelknight posted the following tribute to #zeldawynnvaldes , which we will repost below:
ZELDA WYNN VALDES was the first black fashion designer and costumer to open a black owned shop on Broadway in 1948. Her sexy, glamorous gowns and flawless silhouettes, made her the go to designer for such stars as Josephine Baker, Dorothy Dandridge, Mae West, Sarah Vaughn, Marian Anderson, Joyce Bryant & Ella Fitzgerald. Valdes is famously noted for designing the very first, iconic, Playboy Bunny costumes for Hugh Hefner. Among her contributions, Zelda Wynn Valdes also help establish the National Association of Fashion and Accessory Designers and designed costumes & supervised wardrobe for the Dance Theatre of Harlem. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
