Beard Foundation names José Andrés Humanitarian of the Year following a turbulent year for chefs #FACTS FEB. 23, 2018. #JoséAndrés has won multiple #JamesBeardAwards over his decades-long culinary career, but he's just received an extra special one.

On Wednesday morning, the #JamesBeardFoundation recognized the Spanish-born #chef as #HumanitarianoftheYear for his advocacy on #food and #hunger issues, particularly with his non-profit, #WorldCentralKitchen which has been a leading force in post #HurricaneMaria #PuertoRico relief efforts. In conjunction with #ChefsForPuertoRico WCK has served over 3.3 million meals to #PuertoRicans in the wake of the hurricane's devastation. “José’s work in Puerto Rico and #Haiti shows how chefs can use their expertise and unique skills to enact profound change on a global scale," said #MitchellDavis executive vice president of the James Beard Foundation, in a statement. "He has demonstrated how, at the most difficult times, hot-cooked meals provide more than nutrition, they provide dignity. And we couldn’t imagine a more fitting honoree this year as we celebrate how chefs and our industry Rise.” #NINFONETWORK #NINFOEARTH #FOODNINFO #STYLENINFO #BUZZFEED #HUFFPOSTGRAM #EATER #FOODANDWINE #TRUECOOKS #FOODNETWORK #BONAPPETIT #MICHELINSTAR #LONDON #DAILYMAIL

The doors of the church are open.

The first days of this mission were frustrating to say the least. The lot was empty for most of the day. I snapped this photo while waiting for the people to skkkuuuurr, pull up. We quickly learned that neighborhood we were in didn’t have the greatest need. If you can see the rock formations in the distance protected many people, including our host, from the wrath of #hurricanemaria Vega Baja wasn’t left unscathed, but the town had made a lot of progression. We had to move on to plan B. Can you guess what we did?? #puertorico #vegabaja #medicalmission #beautifulpuertorico #drtraitravels #blackdoctor

Though Puerto Rico is no longer in the news, it still suffers. #Hurricanemaria essentially shut down tourism. #Puertorico relies on tourism for economic stability. Because of this, and #America’s weak response in aid, these humans struggle. Dilapidated buildings, fallen trees, unsafe conditions, surround.. 6 months later. And yet Puerto Rican’s remain resilient and hopeful. #theforgottenamericans #dontforgetpuertorico #humansarehumans #🇵🇷

Had the pleasure of working in #puertorico this week, didn’t have time to tour the island but took plenty of shots on way to work everyday. This is 1 of many to come. #hurricanemaria

This light (the sun) never turns off and never goes away 🌞🌅 5 meses sin luz 💡 and counting ... #puertorico #hurricanemaria #5monthswithoutpower #sunset #puestadesol #croacia #zadar #croatia 😍 #seaorgan #seaorganzadar #fallineurope Croatian architect Nikola Baic's LED light installation titled Saudao ao Sol, translated as Greeting to the Sun, is a remarkable piece of public art that efficiently incorporates technology. The circular floor installation consists of three hundred multilayered glass plates encasing solar cells that absorb sunlight during the day and come alive at night, putting on a spectacular light show. The animated light piece adds another layer of beauty to the scenic coastal town of Zadar, Croatia

“You’ve got this”
Every day, I’ve began to repeat this as I sip my cup of coffee. It’s become my daily mantra.
☕️ .
I’ve been asked about what I’m up to and where I’m going. All I can say is: I’m headed to better things. I’m working on making it happen. ✌🏼
.
Let’s get a little personal. #HurricaneMaria (aftermath) left me homeless. I could share a story about struggle, but that’s not what this post is about. 🇵🇷
.
When your life gets altered so suddenly, you gain new perspective or you give into fear.
I chose to grow. I chose to create. I chose to expand my business and do what I’ve always wanted: travel more to photograph more. 📷
.
If you’re thinking about taking a “leap of faith”, don’t let fear hold you back from your dream. You’ve got this 🌻

Repost from @micmasremix using @RepostRegramApp - Good news! Link Activ is going to be bringing more jobs to Puerto Rico. They already have an office in Guaynabo. And it isn’t a “puertopia vulture” looking to make an “island” for themselves! ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••”Thelma Lopez, Link Activ CEO, who was at the press conference, said that in the immediate future the company is going into a construction and remodeling phase and that they plan to start hiring in the second half of 2018. This year, Link Activ will recruit the first 350 positions of its expansion plan.

Currently, the company has 1400 employees, after an agreement with CommSense for a call center in Aguadilla.

López explained that the average salary for these positions will be between $18,000 and $20,000, that is between $9 and $10 per hour. However, she said that plan contemplates hiring managers and supervisors, positions between $30.000 and $45.000 a year.

Within three years, Link Activ payroll would have increased to $55 million per year, she noted.

Lopez stressed that call centers are the real right hand of any global company.

She said she was “super happy” that Link Activ can contribute to Puerto Rico´s recovery and highlighted that Puerto Rico is starting to lead in the call centers market due to its local talent, which in addition to bilingual skills has also proved to success in handling the difficult task of customers service and telephone sales. And she added that Link Activ has important technology and telecommunication clients.” ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••LINK: https://www.elnuevodia.com/english/english/nota/linkactivwillcreate3000jobsontheisland-2400507/ •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• #Borikén #RebuildPR #PuertoRico #PuertoRican #Nuyorican #Boricua #PR #HurricaneMaria #PRStrong #DefendPR #LevantatePuertoRico #HurricaneRelief #MiGente #IslaDelEncanto #PuertoRicoSeLevanta #GodBlessPuertoRico #HelpPuertoRico #PuertoRicoLevantate #PuertoRicoStrong #VivaPuertoRico #CrisisIsland #YoNoMeQuito #OrgulloBoricua #BoricuaPride #Boriken #Borinquen #HopeForPuertoRico #PuertoRicoTrabaja #LinkActiv
