“The things we do in the name of protecting others are so often attempts to spare some part of ourselves.” 🌼| #CulturedOGs 📸 @yahdon
perfect read for the first snow of the season! 🎄📖❄️🌬#bita #booksintheair #winterstroll #elinhilderbrand “Another Christmas on Nantucket finds Winter Street Inn owner Kelley Quinn reflecting on the past year as he writes a holiday letter to friends and family. Though the year has had its share of misfortune and worry, the Quinns have much to celebrate. Kelley, now single, at least is on better terms with his first wife Margaret, who is using her celebrity to lure customers to the inn in record numbers. Their son Kevin has a beautiful new baby, Genevieve, with the Inn's French housekeeper, Isabelle; and their daughter, Ava, is finally dating a nice guy--her devoted colleague, Scott.
Now the Quinns are looking forward to celebrating Genevieve's baptism, welcoming Isabelle to the family, and enjoying the cheer of Nantucket's traditional Christmas Stroll. But just when a peaceful family gathering seems within reach, Kelley's estranged second wife, Mitzi, shows up on the island after souring on her relationship with the inn's former Santa Claus. Soon Kelley isn't the only Quinn entertaining a surprise guest from Christmases past as lovers old and new gather beneath the mistletoe. With jealousy, passion, and eggnog consumption at an all-time high, it's going to take a whole lot more than a Christmas miracle to get the Quinns--and the inn--through the holidays intact. “ @elinhilderbrand @littlebrown

QOTD: What's your favourite story with a big journey?

The Earthsea Cycle features a lot of journeying! The map for this novel is a gorgeous archipelago so characters are always sailing between islands to complete their quest.

The writing is gorgeous and in the vein of Tolkien, so if that's your thing, these books are for you! They feature a very small cast of secondary characters and are centred around one main character and perhaps a companion. There's usually a clear division between the good and evil forces in the world too, pretty typical in old-style fantasy!

This is such an influential series! I see Earthsea's imprint in The Books of Pellinor, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Uprooted, and the Inheritance Cycle.

Here's a description:
The Wizard of Earthsea (book 1) tells the story of "Ged, the greatest sorcerer in all Earthsea, who was called Sparrowhawk in his reckless youth.
Hungry for power and knowledge, Sparrowhawk tampered with long-held secrets and loosed a terrible shadow upon the world. This is the tale of his testing, how he mastered the mighty words of power, tamed an ancient dragon, and crossed death's threshold to restore the balance."

And thank you to @j.fawx for these adorable Lili's Delivery Service socks 💖😍💍

“A girl is like a young tree, she said. You must stand tall and listen to your mother standing next to you.” The Joy Luck Club by @amytanwriter follows the sometimes harrowing life paths of four members of a San Francisco mahjong club, as well as their daughters' journeys to forge their own ways. The novel is both culturally and emotionally rich.

Do you ever get that warm fuzzy feeling when you meet someone, like you just connect somehow, and they feel so familiar? That happened to me today and it was the greatest thing ever, perhaps we were kindred spirits, or maybe we really did know each other once upon a time. .
I think Boy, Snow, Bird has one of the most brilliant looking cover of all time. And one of the cheesiest books I know if is definitely One for the Murphys and My Life With The Walter Boys, but I left One For The Murphys at home :(
Challenges day 9:
#FrenchieFantasyDecember = Prettiest cover
#LiteraryRomanceDec = Good ol' saint nick
#BNDTPDec17 = Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays / A Cheesy Read

"The past is another land, and we cannot go to visit. So, if I say there were dragons, and men who rode upon their backs, who alive has been there and can tell me that I'm wrong?"
QOTD: Quick post today so ask me a question!
Hi guys! I wish I had time to type up a bomb caption on this photo but I don't! All I have to say is that this series (How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell) is so worth reading! Even if you've seen the movies, these books are so different and worth exploring as well! I personally prefer the books 😉

“A market in the Bay Area needs, at a minimum, three things. It needs fancy coffee, weird honey, and sourdough bread.” #Sourdough by @robinsloan is an absolute delight of a story that both pokes fun at and celebrates San Francisco's tech industry and foodie culture.

Adult life is kicking my butt, so here I am playing catch up again, but I refuse to give up on my December challenges. .
Day 6
#FrenchieFantasyDecember = Chipper Character
#LiteraryRomanceDec = Fairy Lights
#BNDTPDec17 = The 12 Days of Christmas / series that never ends
Day 7
#FrenchieFantasyDecember = Misunderstood
#LiteraryRomanceDec = Christmas Carols
#BNDTPDec17 = Last Christmas / A book with heartbreak
Day 8
#FrenchieFantasyDecember = Fairy Lights
#LiteraryRomanceDec = Christmas Cracker
#BNDTPDec17 = All I Want for Christmas is You / Favorite Romance .
Honestly I'm not sure what a Christmas cracker is, but in my head it meant a funny character, so lets roll with that 😅
Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend planned!

“Do as you will, but harm no one. What you give will be returned to you threefold. Fall in love whenever you can.” - The Rules of Magic ✨ You know you’re in for a rare treat each time you pick up a book by @ahoffmanwriter. I never wanted her new novel to end - if there was a way to climb inside its pages and live permanently in the house on Magnolia Street, I would. This prequel to Practical Magic tells the story of the Owens sisters, sometimes whimsical, sometimes tragic, but always completely magical. I can see this book becoming a new fall tradition - each year when the leaves start to turn, I’ll curl up with this book and a large mug of Courage Tea. #fallreads #bookstosavor #rulesofmagic #alicehoffman #bookstagram #bookofthemonth #botmmember
