Technical Sergeant Meredith Rogers of the 2nd US Infantry Regiment examines his M1 helmet damaged by sniper-fire. 13 July 1944.
This M1 helmet with camouflage netting attached clearly shows the insignia of his division, the 2nd Infantry Division, which was a white star on a Black shield with a head of a American-Indian chief’s head on it. He is armed with the Thomson Sub-machine gun. A hammock can be seen in the background. #usarmy #usinfantry #infantry #m1 #pot #m1helmet #wwii #ww2 #wehrmacht #waffenss #ss #war #battle #1939 #1940 #1941 #1942 #1943 #1944 #1945 #historiansunion

December 17th. Today's Christmas card is about presents. The custom of giving gifts at Christmas is very old, but in the old days it was more common to give gifts around new year. Often the rich were supposed to give to the poor. In the Middle Ages, the servants could receive gifts at the New Year form their boss. But it was not until the mid-1800s that Christmas presents became common, at this time it was also common to give presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Usually the gifts the children received were things they could use, mostly new clothes. In recent years it has become a common idea that Santa are making and bringing the gifts and nowadays we open gifts at Christmas Eve in Norway.

17. desember.
