One in three people in the #Philippines are obese or overweight and this is mostly due to overconsumption of sugar. The country introduced the new tax on sugar-sweetened drinks to reduce their consumption and beat noncommunicable diseases. Here is how WHO supported the Philippines in this important step. Together we can #BeatNCDs

Higher taxes and prices reduce tobacco use, but this policy is underused.
Raise tobacco taxes and prices to save lives, fund health.

Sugary drinks contribute to the global rise of overweight and obesity.
A #SodaTax on sugary drinks can reduce consumption.
To improve global health, tax the things that are killing us.

Diphtheria is making an alarming comeback in #Yemen.
Abdulrahman is only four years old. On a hospital bed in Sana'a, he is recovering from #diphtheria.
There are currently more than 700 suspected cases of diphtheria, a disease that was thought to be relegated to the past by routine mass vaccination.

In #SierraLeone, thanks to a new programme, severely sick children are getting treatment faster in regional and district hospitals. Before, the average time for a child to reach the ward was far too long, about 3 hours. It has now fallen to 20 minutes! Reducing waiting times saves lives. Thanks for your support @dfid_uk #UKAid
