SPOILER ALERT⏰ This is the very last line of #thewellnessprojectbook.📗 It’s also my Thanksgiving mantra.🦃 But I'm putting kale in my stuffing this year anyway just to cover all my bases.😜 Stay calm, and 🍗🍠🍞🥧 on friends.
I am to baking what most musicians (who aren’t named Cher) are to acting.🎥 It’s a nice effort, but stick to what you know.👩🏼‍🍳 So when I was asked to bring a baked good to @thefeedfeed potluck brunch a few weeks ago, I knew I had to do just that. The topping for this #glutenfree apple crisp uses the raw gingerbread cookie balls from #TheWellnessProjectBook as a base.🍪 If you’ve made those balls you know that there are always a few crumbs leftover at the bottom of the bowl, and since I've made hundreds of them, I've taken to saving the dregs and using it as a crumble for fresh fruit.👌🏽 It's packed with super seeds and fiber (whole gluten-free oats, flax meal, coconut flakes), naturally sweetened with a modest amount of maple syrup and subtly zested up from @vitamix winter spice seasoning.👉🏼 Pop over to the blog for the full recipe (link in profile)!👯‍♂️ Cooking crossover artists unite!!
Thanksgiving used to my family's holiday.🍂 During our glorious ten-year reign we subjected our relatives to one disaster after another. There was the year the plumbing went hay wire, and we had to cook for 30 people (and clean up) without any running water.💦 There was the year my grandmother had a stroke at the table somewhere around dessert and had to be rushed to the hospital.😵 And finally, there was the year my father decided our family had outgrown the small barn they rent upstate and decided to host the holiday in our driveway.😰 That was the year everyone ate dinner in their coats and gloves. It is too cold in my apartment to get out of bed, so I will just continue to sit here and dream about the fact that I have almost all of the makings for this quinoa bibimbop, including the delicious dregs of @halfbakedharvest spicy tomatillo sauce, in my fridge.🌶 If someone wants to come over with a fleece onesie and a fork lift, you get half.🍳 If you want to use this as a reason to get out of your own bed, the recipe is in the #feedmephoebe archives.

Another trip around the sun.☀️And holy smokes was it a wild one!📗 I’m up to my ears in work after Asheville weekend and cooking for friends tonight, so my usual birthday reflection will have to wait for the weekend. But what I do know without having to dig too deep is how much this year has changed me. I feel older in dog years. In work experience, in artistic vulnerability. In places seen, and sweet potato fries eaten. And all those other tiny aspects that culminate into ✨growth.✨The best birthday present I could ask for was all the emails I woke up to this morning about people wanting to take my course. If you missed it yesterday, I casually mentioned my new 4 Weeks to Wellness program in my stories. Those who are interested in being part of the Beta group - shoot me an email! I can’t believe it, but in less than 24 hours we are almost FULL!😱#Thewellnessprojectbook was all about me and my story. I’m truly so excited for this next 32nd year of life to be all about YOU. About turning everything I learned into something really practical that you can use to find your own brand of balance, whatever that may be. Thank you for your support and being part of my tribe. Good news chilly friends.🤧 It's getting to be perfect weather for chili roasted root veggies from #thewellnessprojectbook!👍🏻 It's funny all the recipes that have gone undiscovered because it hasn’t been the right season.🍠 I haven't remade this one since testing it a bajillion times last winter and can't wait to add it back into the rotation. Who’s with me?🌰 #HashiPosse you need to try the Brazil Nut Pangritata. It's 💯. The crispy chickpeas and creamy tahini ain’t too shabby either. 👋🏻NO WASTE MONTH. I've finally put together my recap of October's effort.🌱 Those of you who tuned in on stories last week for the live dumpster dive in my kitchen can attest to how much fun I had with this tally. It made me feel like a sleazy private eye (a la Matt Dillon circa 1996).👨🏻 Overall, I was both incredibly proud of our efforts, and kind of horrified by the number of Kind Bar wrappers I picked through.🙈 We accomplished our goal of 1 trash bag for 4 weeks and had so much room to spare that we were going to try and get through another month. That is, until Baron pooped all over our apartment yesterday.💩 Hello, new paper towel roll. Oh hey, new trash bag. No-Waste parents who use cloth diapers, I solute you.😖 So...#NoWasteMonth is officially over, but I have lots of lessons, tips, and goals for the future to share.👉🏼 Pop over to the full post! I’m not sure who was my preferred wedding date this weekend.👫 @clockemoffett looked better in a tan suit. But Chocolate Chip The Llama made me feel like the center of his universe. That is until the cater waiter started passing out clover, and he was over me.😜 On my way back over the Brooklyn Bridge after a wonderful two days in Asheville. Edible highlights included the squash paella at @curatetapasbar, the pristine green juice at The Green Sage and the root hash at @overeasyasheville.🍳 Excited for my couch, my 🐶, and my bowl of kale right about now.✌🏼

TWIGS IN A BLANKET.🌱🐷 When I teach private cooking classes, I always try to work in a variety of techniques and nutrition facts to make people feel like they’re getting their money’s worth. But it’s always the no-brainer non-recipe dishes that end up sticking. So it should be no surprise that when I was a guest at someone else’s cooking class, the dish that blew me away was the three ingredient appetizer. I often talk about how my mother’s crunchy granola ways turned me into a glutton for the forbidden sections of the grocery aisle.🍬 I stopped arguing with her once I realized I could just go over to my friend Anna’s house and eat whatever I wanted.🍿🍫😬 Surprisingly, once I was free of my mother’s pantry and off on my own at college, my food swings landed more on the side of my household than Anna’s. I enjoyed many a treat from the library vending machine, but my dorm remained unburdened by snack food, save for the whole pies that my Freshman year roommate took to stealing from the dining hall.🥧
The one exception was Cup-o-Noodles.🍜It was my crack. Now I've finally healthified (and gluten-freeified) this childhood favorite with mom-afied ingredients like @pacificfoods organic mushroom broth and @lotusfoods brown rice ramen. I’ll never forget the friend of mine who wouldn’t allow red wine past her front doorstep.🍷 Well, she is still my friend (hey @s.r.mestre 👋🏻). But mainly, for the purpose of this story, it's because at the time—in my early twenties—I didn’t have very many friends who cared enough about their home furnishings to worry about wine stains. All the cushions on my couch had already been flipped over due to my own hand-to-mouth misfires.💁🏼‍♀️ But now that I’m older and wiser, and the proud owner of real grown-up furniture, including a white rug that has somehow only been tainted with dog vomit, not wine, I get where she was coming from.🧐 If you’re going to be putting your space in danger of a group of adults getting “loose,” it’s best to ensure that the liquids inevitably getting spilled on your floor meet a clear, neutral color palette.🥂 Which is why I feel it's my duty to tell you about what white wines pair well with fall flavors.👉🏼 Click on over to the site for my full white (wine) winter guide. #21andup #rieslingtofeast #pacificrim
🌿Healthy🌿 and 🍗Southern🍖 usually aren't used in the same sentence when discussing food, but there are always some #healthyhedonism exceptions. This is one of my favorite balanced weeknight meals inspired by my time down at Charlie's family home in South Carolina. It's got the 🐷. But also black eyed peas and whole grain mustard sauce. The whole thing can be made on a sheet pan, and I couldn't think of a better swap for the butternut squash than a deconstructed Jack-o-Lantern.🎃 This weeknight inspo can be found in the #feedmephoebe archives (search Sheet Pan Pork Tenderloin). Currently sitting at my gate waiting for the Delta fairies to get their 💩 together, and hoping my flights doesn't get delayed a third time.🙏🏼 Only positive is I packed the leftovers from my video shoot yesterday with @kristinkremers and am currently enjoying a container of salmon, kale and quinoa with lemon tahini sauce.👌🏽 It beats the usual @kindsnacks bars and @primalkitchenfoods jerky when I don't manage to get my 💩 together to pack a real plane meal.✈️ This recipe is one of the top 5 #feedmephoebe recipes of all time, and you can find it, along with less well-loved but equally delicious options for your weekend batch cooking, in the archives!👉🏼 wish me luck 🤞🏼

One of the questions I’ve gotten a lot on #thewellnessprojectbook tour is: if you could do it all over again, what would you change about your project?📗The answer is, surprisingly, not much. Which is not to say that my approach was perfect. But I was able to refine and juggle along the way so that the end curriculum is pretty close to what I’d recommend to others. The one exception though is my eater’s digest month.🥗 While I inadvertently tackled many lifestyle areas that improved the health of my gut—switching to natural products, removing chlorine and other harsh chemicals from my tap, eating more anti-inflammatory foods—my one regret is that I didn’t start introducing fermented foods into my life sooner. I'm writing all about the magic of these foods over on the blog today and sharing the easiest gateway DIY: how to make your own lacto-fermented spicy turmeric kraut.🐛 If you want to see me demo it in person, you can also come to my session @wellsummit appropriately titled, FERMENT-ME NOT.👉🏼 Recipe and info on that in link in profile!

I've been thinking a lot recently about the stories we tell ourselves. I had a great convo on the subject of false narratives with @jessicamurnane on her pod (if you want to give it a listen, it's episode 78).🎙 It's well established that stress is a huge trigger for autoimmune conditions. But it's such an amorphous thing to pin point and tackle, especially when so much of that stress is ultimately a byproduct of a lack of self-compassion and love. AI peeps, it's time for a language audit. The words we use on a daily basis are not benign. The ones we put out into the world are important, but even more so are the ones we use on ourselves. When they attack, isn’t it possible that our body is also taught to turn on itself? Write yourself a love letter today and begin reminding yourself that the negative stories we tell ourselves--about our worth, our future, our place in the world--are not always true.🙏🏼 #thewellnessprojectbook #healthyhedonism

I'm continuing my Thai comfort food mashup glory with this red curry pumpkin shepherd's pie.🌶 It's seriously one of the most delicious things I've made in a while. I ate pretty much this entire pan by myself over the course of a week and am somehow still craving more.🤤 The topping is made light and creamy with @pacificfoods organic pumpkin puree, cauli mash and just a touch of coconut milk for richness.
