Any kids coming to your house for Thanksgiving this year? Pro-tip: Make place cards for each setting. Kids LOVE it. They search the table for their name. They are over joyed when they find it. Then they realize they can figure out who is sitting next to them too. It feels so fancy and official. There are tons of easy place card ideas out there. If you're in the mood to get crafty this weekend, you can make this stamped clay version (and the kids can wear them as bracelets after dinner). Search "clay place cards" on Design Mom and the post will come right up.

#ad | What advice would you give your former teenage self? Or your teenage daughter? I wrote a post with @OLLYnutrition about my teenage daughter Olive and her latest project. She’s launching a magazine (@dysfunctionmag), and it’s so rad! It’s exactly the type of project I want to tell EVERY teen to tackle. You can read all about it on the blog — and get a sneak peek of the magazine too. A big thanks goes to #OLLYgirl for helping to keep Olive strong and healthy so she can continue to be the powerhouse that she is.

Yesterday I shared a post with the all-time most HELPFUL Thanksgiving links ever. We're talking Turkey tips for both pros and beginners, how to make the perfect pie crust, side dishes to die over, and the easiest, prettiest centerpiece that anyone can make (even if you're not crafty at all). Are you hosting this year? At our house it's just going to be our family — for the first time in many years! How about you?

#ad | We’re re-reading Wonder today because A) it’s World Kindness Day, and B) we’re beyond excited for @WonderTheMovie. It comes out this Friday, 11/17! Have you read Wonder with your kids? It’s seriously a MUST read. So good. And the movie trailer looks amazing. Every time I watch it I just sob. Are you and your kids Wonder fans? Do you have a favorite part of the story? Are you curious if the movie will do the book justice? Based on the trailer, I’m feeling confident it will. How about you?

Can you believe it's been a year since the election? Did the year pass quickly for you, or slowly? Today on the blog I shared a post called: Yep, I'm Still Angry. How About You? // If you're in the mood to discuss (or vent), I hope you'll give it a read. Lots of good comments already, from lots of different viewpoints.

Remember when we lived in the French countryside across the street from an apple orchard? Have I told you my kids ask to move back to France on a daily basis? They have nothing against Oakland -- they actually love it here -- they're just in the mood for a new adventure. If you were going to move abroad, where would you go?

#ad | So I wrote a post about my recent obsession with organic farming, which seems like it would be a non-divisive topic, right? WRONG. I made people mad and I wasn't even trying to. 😳 I detailed all the good stuff I learned on my visit to Vermont with @stonyfield, and immediately heard from several people who live in farming communities who felt like I was demonizing non-organic farmers. 🚜🚜🚜 If you get a chance to go read it, let me know if you think I was too harsh. Also, watch for the new thing conservationists are talking about called Carbon Sequestration. It's basically like move over recycling, move over carbon net zero, because Carbon Sequestration will knock your socks off. Lastly, I took this picture at one of the farmhouses we visited. Doesn't get more charming than this. 🍂🍁🍃

A couple months ago, a reader asked: What would it take for you to leave the Mormon Church? She asked it in the comments on a blog post and I admit, my response wasn't great. We ended up offending each other. Later, other readers chimed in and got me to rethink the whole exchange. I concluded we were having a miscommunication about what church means and what religion means. So I ended up writing up some thoughts on the original conversation and shared them in a blog post just a bit ago. The comments are starting to come in and they are so good. Really thoughtful. You can find the full post on Design Mom (link in profile). I hope you'll feel free to participate in the conversation. 💛💛
P.S. — I snapped the photo once upon a time in Florence, Italy. I'm sure craving a trip!

I took a little Instagram break and it felt good. I'm in one of those spots where I'm re-evaluating each of my social media accounts and thinking about why I am on each platform and what I am hoping to get out of them both personally and professionally. If I could go back 10 years and start over again, would I follow the same people on each platform? Keep more of a separation between personal posts and work? Post more? Post less? Steer clear of certain platforms altogether? 😜😳😂 How about you? What are you enjoying about social media these days? Is there a platform you love more than others? One thing that surprised me: I started using Twitter again daily, about six weeks ago, and I'm into it. Not really to share my own stuff, but to get news and amplify voices who I appreciate. I would never have guessed I was going to enjoy Twitter again. But let's be honest, I've never been good at predicting any social media trends at all. Hah! 💛 What are your social media predictions? Have you made any changes to your social media habits lately?

#ad | Thing I learned on this gorgeous rainy day in Vermont while visiting 2 of the independent farms that work with @stonyfield: In order to raise healthy dairy cows that provide certified organic milk, farmers need at least 21 separate grazing areas (called paddocks). After the cows spend a day grazing on one area, the farmers let the grasses and other plants in that area grow back for at least 3 weeks. This keeps the soil and plants and cows healthy, with lots of needed variety in their diets. That's just one little tidbit -- I learned so much today! I'm grateful to the farmers who hosted us, and answered all my questions, and to Stonyfield for the invitation. #stonyfieldfarmtour
