It was a wild honor to play history's most demented feminist prophet, Valerie Solanas on tomorrow's episode. The latest season of American Horror Story is the first piece of art work to truly address the rampant pain and insanity of this post-election world. It's surreal and it's all too real. I've loved every second of the series, just like I loved every second of embodying Valerie- her pain, rage, fear, loss and weird hat collection. So much love to Ryan Murphy @mrrpmurphy for his boldness and for resurrecting Val, Brad Falchuk @bradfalchuk for asking me to go hard, Crystal Liu for the killer script and Rachel Goldberg for directing the tits outta this. I got to act alongside so many beautiful women. This one's for all my ladies crying out to be known as more than a shadow. This one is for the people who refuse to play the game. This one is for corduroy- I've never worn so much fucking corduroy❤️ #SCUM #AHScult
We all need mentors- but where do we find them when we don't see faces like our own in our field? Along with @ColeHaan, we asked the extraordinary Tiffani Bell how she found black woman mentors as a programmer. #extraordinaries Illustration by Priscilla Weidlein. Link in bio.

If you're like me & mermaids make you happy but also Traci Lords makes you happy, well, here's Traci Lords as a mermaid 🐚
When my parents had this baby, did they know it would be my favorite baby? Very tall baby, btw #sisterlife
Hey @jackantonoff remember your weird depression beard? Remember how depressed it made ME? Your vibe was very "just divorced my childhood sweetheart, getting into cigars and stuff." So glad that phase is behind us. So glad we've been together long enough to have phases. I miss you, come home soon.
Someone I love bought me a stuffed animal!
Link no longer in bio, emotions remain the same 🎥 💔
So @lennyletter is teaming up with our favorite illustrator @hallithbates to sell these original prints to benefit Puerto Rico relief. It's only 25 bucks and all proceeds go to the Hispanic Federation 🙏 🇵🇷
Today, in need of something like joy, I returned again and again to this Polaroid of @cocopascual by @michaelbaileygates. For a few hours on Sunday night we were not caught up on the news and we believed in mermaids.
Merwin spoke of war. These days, American life can feel like a kind of war, between those who believe that it's possible to do better and those who would have us fear that this is our best. Let's write our names in stone so nobody, nothing, can burn it down. I am here to love and fight and pray with you in the church that we create together.
Today is heartbreaking. The deadliest mass shooting in modern American history, senseless and shocking and impossible to ignore. And yet we are all desensitized by so much gun violence, day in and day out. What will it take to rise up? Will everyone have to know a victim personally to feel the depth of this? Hearing about Tom Petty, our beautiful bard of American experience, feels oddly connected- his gift is that he depicts the America we all dreamed of, one where we could seek experience and pursue our passions without judgment or fear. Seeing Tom Petty live was one of the most unifying experiences of my life. Every kind of American was linked, singing and dancing at Jones beach. So let's remember his words today:
Hey baby, there's something in your eyes
Tryin' to say to me
That I'm gonna be alright if I believe in you
It's all I want to do

Pray for him. Pray for us. Go to to learn how you can help.
Today: a little ode to the men who raised me. I often get accused of "man hating" (that's reductive idiot speak for pointing out the systemic privilege of white bros. And God forbid I should be sick of having issues about which I am a total expert explained to be my men with South Park avatars!) But I don't hate men- I love them (hey @jackantonoff.) I collaborate with them (@saltyshepnyc @jessepooljesse @timives, my saints and saviors) and I have even fucked them (well, one. Once. Only once. It felt weird and I'm so busy.) But truly I was raised by the best. My father's paternal accomplishments are too many to name, but I'll throw this out there: when my body started to change from twig to pear he told me, looking pained by my self-hatred, that in the Renaissance I would have been considered the ideal model (hey, he's a painter, he uses what he can connect to.) I held onto it like a lucky coin. Somewhere, even if it was hundreds of years ago, I was perfect. Meanwhile my genius Godfather @jerrysaltz supports female artists as a leading art critic and currently holds one man reproductive justice protests in the road near his house. He always told me I was smart and "a real weirdo" and he taught me a bad British accent, a love of seltzer and how to say "fuck off." Today he posted this self-portrait by Artemisia Gentileschi, the only female in the Italian Baroque painting movement, and said it looked like me. He's still doing his part to make me feel seen and empowered. I'm so lucky. Cuz guess what? Fame doesn't make you feel special. Shopping doesn't make you feel special. Giving and receiving love and honest acknowledgment is IT. So today I acknowledge you, gentleman. Thank you to all the men making the women in their lives feel safe and seen, now more than ever.
And now a statement from a very satisfied viewer! #iloveyoualicebtoklas
