{RECIPE UPDATE} Looking for a thoughtful gift for the sweet lovers on your list? Brownies in a Jar is it! Simply layer the dry ingredients in a glass jar, attach a card with the baking instructions, and you're done. What's more, you can check several people off your list in record time by pulling together several jars at once, assembly line-style. The gift is even sturdy enough to be shipped by mail! 💪🏼
The brownies are super simple to make, so even kids can pull them together: dump the dry ingredients in a large bowl, mix in water, oil, and eggs, bake and enjoy! A lot of people don't have time to make freshly baked treats for themselves these days, so providing a shortcut to make brownies from scratch is sure to be a DIY treat your loved ones will remember for a long time ✨

{NEW RECIPE} When wooden clementine crates arrive at my local market, I know two things are right around the corner: winter and citrus season! Clementines are my favorite winter snack, but I also like to cook and bake with them too. I love to use them in sweet things, such as cookies, cupcakes, and macarons, but lately I’ve been using them in savory dishes more and more. 🍊🧡
.
This luxurious clementine, carrot, and tahini soup uses tons of carrots for your wintertime vitamin boost, a couple of clementines for a bright flavor uplift, and tahini for a lovely, rich creaminess. What's more, it freezes really well so you might as well make a double or triple batch and enjoy it all through the holidays 💪🏼

Everybody loves pie! Or so it seems, judging from the success of my lattice pie post yesterday 😍 I thought it would be fun to share a picture of the pie after baking! How gorgeous is it?! Seriously the best-looking pie I’ve ever made 💁🏼‍♀️
.
Swipe left to see more pictures from the making of the pie 💙 You’ll see that I had planned for a beautiful scalloped edge to surround the outer braid, but it fell off during baking. I forgot to refrigerate the pie before baking (rookie mistake!) which means the dough was warm by the time it went into the oven. The soft, butter-based dough quickly melted and fell off the pie plate. Which isn’t too bad because it turns out the outer braid looked just perfect on its own, I think! 👌🏼 (And I got extra crunchy buttery flaky crust pieces to nibble on as a bonus 🙊)
.
You can make this delicious pie if you’ve got wild blueberries stashed in the freezer, or use the lattice/braiding technique to decorate any holiday pie 🥧🙌🏼 More info through the link in my profile: @foodnouveau
Or search for “lattice pie” on FoodNouveau.com to find the post.
Fun with lattice! How do you like to decorate your pies? I usually do a basic lattice pattern, but after seeing so many beautiful pie patterns on Instagram and Pinterest, I decided to step it up a notch and braid the top of this wild blueberry pie 👆🏼💙 I found it to be quite the tricky craft project (the ends of my long braids fell apart because the dough got too warm), but it sure made for a spectacular result.
Conclusion: I’ll save braided lattice to decorate pies made for special occasions—which the upcoming Thanksgiving sure is one (*hint hint* US friends! 😉)

Maple-Roasted Figs. Need I say more?
I recently used these gems to top a dessert, but I think they'd be just perfect in a savory setting, say in a salad, or on a crostini with blue cheese 😍

So my sleep situation is really not good right now. Today I was so sleep deprived that I was feeling like I’d had a bottle of wine for breakfast! 😳 I’ve tried all sorts of tricks: white noise, podcasts, ear plugs, but now the routine is getting so intricate I feel like it’s now actually getting in my way. I need to reset somehow, but I can’t just go back to straight up silence. A few people have recommended meditation, what do you think? 🤔
.
Anyhow, very early this morning I couldn’t fall back asleep and in my swirling thoughts appeared this Orange and Cardamom Carrot Cake 👆🏼✨ It’s been a long while since I’ve made carrot cake, and this beauty is eaten from a bowl, topped with yogurt and candied pistachios. It’s delightfully moist, brightly spiced, and infused with citrus flavors—it has, in short, everything to make carrot cake lovers happy. I think it was my subconscious sending me a message: Maybe this is the nightcap that would lead to a perfect night’s sleep? 🌙

It's no secret I like intricate desserts, but I like them even more when they *look* intricate but are actually easy to put together. This Apple Frangipane Tart is a case in point: the crust is a quick and easy press-in and the frangipane filling comes together in minutes. You can then devote most of your efforts to carefully fanning the apple slices over the tart, which isn't difficult but does require a bit of meticulousness. It's totally worth it though: your reward will be to bask in the oohs and ahhs of your guests as you bring the tart to the table! 🥧🍎💁🏼‍♀️

This colorful Mulled Citrus Cider is a deeply aromatic beverage made with apple cider, fresh citrus juice, and spices that you can serve hot or cold, virgin or spiked 💃🏼 When I serve the mulled cider cold, I add a generous splash of sparkling cider or wine to each serving to make it even more refreshing. When I serve it warm, I spike it with spiced rum and orange liqueur to make it an extra-rewarding treat coming in from exercising or working or playing in the cool fall air 🙌🏼

{NEW RECIPE} In the winter, I survive on warm drinks of all kinds, but I’ve always had a particularly soft spot for warm ciders and mulled wines. To me, such drinks are the very definition of comfort; deeply flavored and super aromatic, they warm you up like a soft blanket.
.
My Mulled Citrus Cicer incorporates apple cider with the juice from three different citrus fruits, which nicely lifts the cider’s flavor and makes it suitable to be served hot in the winter or over ice in the summer. Handy, no? I actually created this recipe for my upcoming cookbook, Simply Citrus, but it had to be edited out for space reasons! Kill your darlings, as they say. But then I get to share it right away! Good for me--and for you 😉

What’s your favorite way to season roasted pumpkin seeds? 🤔
.
Growing up, we’d carve a pumpkin on Halloween day every year and my mom would always roast the seeds afterwards. I suspect she wanted to fill us up with a healthier snack so we’d (hopefully) eat less candy later on! 🙊
.
Today, I think I carved my very first pumpkin since I left my parents’s house, almost 20 years ago...! I’m not sure why I’d never picked up the tradition myself, because it was an activity I was very attached to as a kid. Look at my stories to see how I fared 🎃😉
.
And I made sure to roast the seeds! 🙌🏼 I tossed them with a bit of olive oil, soy sauce, grated clementine zest, black pepper, and fleur de sel, and roasted them for 25 minutes at 350F. They’re quite the umami-filled, addictive snack! I think they’ll now be my main motivation to keep the pumpkin-carving tradition alive 😂
Start planning for Halloween's aftermath: These Pumpkin Madeleines with Spiced Maple Glaze are the perfect way to use up some of that Jack-o'-lantern flesh! 🎃
(Don't let it rot on your front steps come November 1st!)
