The ultimate gin & tonic at SLS - not the same as BH, must say. Disappointed

I wouldn’t say no to a few more degrees, but I have to say, we will take everything we can get at the moment. I have no tech except for my phone and have barely touched it - we needed this break. Who wouldn’t mind some #wintersun?

And on the blog, probably one of the loveliest surprises of my recent travels - I had the *best* day in Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, in Canada’s Vancouver Island. Have you ever been? If you are in the area, you should definitely definitely go. See link on profile #explorecanada [sp]

I think my favourite stop on this mini UK was, without a doubt, #Chester. What a beautiful city - and so lively! Have you been? #lovegreatbritain #mrsoaroundtheuk [sp] @lovegreatbritain

We left #Manchester this morning and made our way to #Liverpool, which is only 30 mins or so away. It turns out my mother stayed there for 6 weeks a good 40 something years ago and it was somewhere she was keen to revisit. Well, we spent our morning at the Albert Dock, the UK’s most visited attraction outside #London. Let’s put this way: she thought it looked very different from what she remembered. We had a quick drive around the town before heading out - and we were wondering, is there enough to see and do for a weekend? There were quite a few tourists from pretty much everywhere. And it had not one, but two cathedrals... Thoughts, please! And of course, it is the home of The Beatles. #lovegreatbritain #mrsoaroundtheuk [sp] @lovegreatbritain

Our perfect day in #Manchester, where it was cold but sunny, there were shoes in my size (3.5 🇬🇧) and I had the company of some of my favourite people in the world: my husband, my mother, my sister and my brother in law who flew in from Lisbon this morning. I first visited the city 10 years ago and only returned last month (for dinner and an overnight stay literally), as we flew out to the 🇺🇸 and 🇨🇦 from here (#MCR is one of the UK gateway cities and obviously a good base to explore the Country). We liked what we saw last month and decided that this would be a good city to explore and the beginning of a little UK tour. I really didn’t have a visual of Manchester - all my friends’ over 18s children say it’s now quite cool and keep coming here for weekends - and it’s quite easy to see the appeal. A lot of gentrification is taking place - and I have to say, the shopping options really really surprised me. Have more tips for us? Let us know before we briefly visit Liverpool and Chester. #lovegreatbritain #mrsoaroundtheuk [sp] @lovegreatbritain TAP FOR THE CLASSIC MCR soundtrack.

Perfect pre #christmas dinner at our favourite place with @mroaroundworld @therealmissuslamb and family. It doesn’t get more English or countryside-ish than this place. 🇬🇧😍 just a couple miles away from us, and where kate winslet had one of her weddings ;)

We are ready for #Christmas with a bit of time to spare - just the way I like it. This time of the year can be stressful for some, sad for others, the favourite time of the year for many, or a mix of all. For those of you celebrating Christmas, I hope you get to share it with people you love and make you happy. And that Santa or Jesus (whichever is your favourite) brings you the gift you really deserve. @mroaroundworld and I want a lot of love, a lot of health, but I won’t say no to another pair of shoes ☺️

And you thought I had gone to #Portugal last week and hadn’t partaken in some singing with the little ones? 😍 TAP FOR SOUND as V is doing one of her fabulous musical interpretations. I gave her a phone with you tube on and then realised she of course doesn’t know how to write, so she told me a First song and I searched for her. And then she knew exactly what to do to find the songs she wanted to play for the next half hour. They are so clever. And obviously English isn’t her first language. We enjoyed a snowy day at home today and was lovely. How was your weekend?

We have had a crap 2 weeks. But the next 2 months will be testing - and we going to fight every hurdle that comes our way. I had my #IVF collection yesterday and it went well - 10 of the eggs have fertilised and the doctors will do a fair bit of work on them over the next month. But this week, after 2 weeks of testing and what not, my dear @mroaroundworld was diagnosed with prostate #cancer. We have been preparing for this, but there’s always a bit of you that hopes they made a mistake. The difference in his numbers was minimal and almost not worth having a proper exam - but we did and we are glad that we caught it. We are in reasonably high spirits and confident we will beat this. But just say a little prayer for us and this hasn’t been easy. One thing after the other. I updated the #IVF diary if you want to read a bit more about this - I won’t update again til the new year as there isn’t much to say and my focus is on my amazing husband who I love so much. As they say, when it rains... it pours 😢

A weird one to share - but it’s nice to add some real life to this feed, which I would like to think I do, hence why not everything is 👌 . Every time I go back to #Lisbon, I go to the butchers (same one my family uses for decades) and I obviously buy fabulous #meat in the 🇬🇧, but one misses home comforts, like picking the right cut of meat for one’s #burgers (and just the right amount of #chorizo to give it a little special something). We are bringing home the #Christmas haul which includes the salted codfish (#bacalhau), probably half a kid goat (cabrito), a few other bits and pieces from the butcher (like cozido a Portuguesa, skewers and God knows what else). And bread, and cheese and a whole jamon ibérico leg. And only 12 bottles of 🇵🇹 #wine - because it would be rude not to. Our luggage weighed 120kg today and they didn’t even bat an eyelid - if free circulation of goods ends after Brexit, we will personally suffer a bit, as we really bring a fair bit of food home when we travel. Is there something you like to buy when you travel (foodwise!)?

I missed my family and my godchildren (and their mother) so much, I thought it was perfectly acceptable to book a very last minute trip to #Lisbon, #Portugal. I also desperately missed the #sea and what it brings to the table. Today we had a 4-hour lunch - the weather was perfect (we didn’t even wear a coat, which we would be perfectly happy to as it’s #December), and so was the menu, with a selection of fresh seafood and fish. And mango mousse for desert. Was it worth waking up at 4.30am? You bet. I’m beyond happy - and I really needed this little Portuguese fix. We have a big week ahead of us back home in England, so this was just 👌
Weirdest and funniest thing happened today. Went to get some #donuts for tea after coming back from #London where I went for my #IVF scan (which went very well, by the way) and I asked for 6. Lady said, actually 12 costs only £0.50 more. In a moment of greed and gluttony, I said YES. So then she said, ‘actually, if you buy 12, you get another 12’. 😳. So I asked the ladies behind me in the queue if they liked the classic glazed ones and gave them a box. Then on my way to the car, I walked past my greengrocers who always say hello and they actually said: ‘oh yes please!’. Well, imagine their faces when I handed them a whole box. Tell you what, I felt good and I got home with a box of 12, which is way tooooo many! Who would like a 🍩 ?

The table is set, the bird is cooking and it’s time to pop the champagne. We don’t usually celebrate #Thanksgiving but this year we have a very good reason to. @terened has been cooking all day, I have been the best sous chef and now we just need @mroaroundworld @dicch01 @hinck63 @alexhinckleys to arrive! As if I needed an excuse to throw a #dinnerparty. #thanksgivingdinner

I’m missing #Portugal today. A lot. Have you ever been? And more importantly, was there something that surprised you? I miss clams and the sea. And my family.

This past year hasn’t been easy - we have been through 2 rounds of #IVF and both have failed. After a lot of soul searching (and a lot of love from family and friends) and after a 6 month break, we are now ready to start our 3rd round. I wrote a little something on the blog, and will update it as things happen. I was all smiles on this photo after round 2. Then came the tears. Just wish us luck.
And here’s to a very special @flytographer shoot. This one took place in #Victoria, the actual home of Flytographer. I was joined by Nicole (@flytographerlife), the CEO and founder and Nancy (@luxetravelfamily) who I have also known for a few years (and friends with Nicole in non internet life). We have all met in London, but this was our first time together for the 3 of us - and extra special as i was able to visit their home town, which I loved. My trip to #Canada ‘s #BritishColumbia was short but very special - @tourismvictoriabc prepared the ‘perfect day in Victoria’ for me and Nancy was my very private guide for the week. I absolutely want to go back and I cannot recommend this part of the world enough. It was lovely. #explorecanada #sp

I have to say, I love it when a place *really* surprises me. Don’t get me wrong - I wouldn’t go to #Canada if I didn’t think it would be great... but it was truly exceptional. They even organised the weather for me. But jokes aside, #Vancouver was fantastic - plenty of #luxuryhotel options, the dining was exceptional (and service was really friendly). But what I didn’t expect was how ‘easy’ it was to shop. A great variety of local brands (I didn’t know @lululemon and @sorelfootwear were Canadian 😳), and all the international options, in full force. And being there off season, it kind of felt the city was all ours. It was the perfect setting for my girls trip with @luxetravelfamily, who lives in Victoria and kindly showed me around her ‘2 cities’. The only person who didn’t enjoy my photos and videos was @mroaroundworld, who was stuck in a conference on the other side of the border. Maybe I will bring him the next time I return to @hellobc . Thank you, 🇨🇦 for the incredibly warm welcome and the makeup lessons. @explorecanada #explorecanada #sp

Hello from #Vancouver, a city I have only known for a day and 😍😍 already. My trip to #Canada is a quick one - 3 days, but it’s like a taster of what this fabulous part of the world has to offer. I’m obsessed with the trees and the proper cold weather clothes shopping. But I will tell you more about that tomorrow. And I hope you approve my choice of #luxuryhotel in the city - the fabulous @shangrila_van which screams understatement. Just the way I like it. @explorecanada @hellobc #explorecanada #sp
#nofilter on this photo. I was hoping to see some magnificent #fall colours in #Canada, but I wasn’t expecting to see so many. I loved my visit to @thebutchartgardens half an hour from #Victoria, and I can’t recommend a visit enough. Victoria, the capital of #BritishColumbia was a delightful surprise - so much so, that I’m already planning a return in the summer. If you are in #Seattle or #Vancouver, do come here. It’s only a ferry or short seaplane away - and it’s worth the time. And you can also stay in style at the lovely @fairmontempress. Ready to #explorecanada and be surprised again! @explorecanada #sp
