What a great day on Maui today shooting at Pe’ahi(Jaws). Waves were massive and good times were had by all. Took over @dakine_surf Instagram for the day posting images live right from the water(so check out & follow if you haven’t already) shooting with my regular DSLR camera sending the images direct to my iPhone allowing me to post professional camera quality images within minutes of the amazing rides that went down from right in the water. Thank you to @dklegend & @shaunwalsh20 for driving me on the jet ski all day and always taking care of me. This is Aaron Gold(@therealaarongold ) charging as usual- Shot using @spl_waterhousing +Canon1DXMarkii +70-200mmLensF4—-> @axisgo & #iPhone8Plus . #ZakNoyle

Massive surf is arriving along the northern shorelines of Hawaii right now. Tomorrow at Pe’ahi(Jaws) on Maui is set to be mind blowing, I will be posting live through out the day from the water using my DSLR camera as the historic rides go down on the @dakine_surf Instagram account. Follow them to see in real time as this epic surf day unfolds. This is an image of @tylerlarronde from a few years ago when he was 16 years old, can’t wait to see what the boys do tomorrow. #ZakNoyle

Power. Waimea Bay, North Shore of Oahu. Shot before the start of the 2016 Eddie Aikau big wave contest. Waves were 25-30 feet and terrifying even from the channel where I shot this. When I shot this, I had no clue it was the start of an 8 hour straight swim that day that I would never forget! Shot using @spl_waterhousing +Canon70D. #EddieWouldGo #ZakNoyle

Sai Smiley(@saismiley808 ) back when the Pipeline used to go off. Shot using a Canon 16-35mmLens, little far away in this shot but it shows the size and width of the barrel much better than a Fisheye would have. I have frames closer which I will share soon. Moments when the Fisheye lens is your best friend. Mark Healey(@healeywaterops ) dropping in. This was a crazy session out at Off The Wall. I remember Healey getting me to go out to shoot. No one else out shooting and perfect but slightly too large waves, a few minutes after this shot I got caught inside on a big set. The wave landed on me snapped my leash connecting me to my housing/camera. I came up freaking out more for the fact of knowing the photos lost than the actual camera. Yelled to Healey to start looking for it(as it floats). Healey went out to sea looking, I went inside more. A few minutes passed as I got to the shoreline I saw it floating! Grabbed it right before it hit the rocks along the shoreline. I ran up to the house got a new leash and was right back out in the water to shoot more. Crazy how a photo can transport you to that moment with such emotions. That’s why I love shooting photos and capturing the moments. Shot w/ @spl_waterhousing +Canon1DX+Fisheye. #ZakNoyle

Wavy. Waimea Bay, Hawaii. Shooting with a longer lens such as a 70-200mm(used here) lens in the water makes you really have to focus and compose the shot, the fail rate in a shore break significantly increases with the sheer amount of water moving and large barrels in close proximity as it’s much more zoomed than majority of what’s used in the water. I wanted to use a 70-200 to show more of the details and shapes that come more apparent than if it was just a standard wide angle or fisheye in the shore break, generally a 70-200 would be used for larger waves or shooting from a channel. I choose to shoot with the F4 model because of the size and weight for swimming as it is half of both of the F2.8model by Canon. Shot w/ @spl_waterhousing +Canon1DX +70-200mmLensF4. #ZakNoyle

Lens choice will make or break the image- dependent on the waves, the size, and your positioning. Many go to a Fisheye in the impact zone. For this straight on view I feel the Fisheye only warps & lies of the true size. In various “Aichner-esqe” angles the Fisheye is used in what it’s made for(if you don’t know Scott Aichner surf photos, look up his Surfline portfolio to see major inspiration & mind blowing images.). In this image of Brett Barley(@brettbarley ) I used the 16-35mm Lens as the waves were throwing wide right on the reef at Pipeline, allowing me to show the true width of this barrel he drives through. These are just some thoughts when I saw this image to post. Hope you all enjoyed story time today. Shot w/ @spl_waterhousing +Canon1DX +16-35mmLens. #ZakNoyle

Surely one of my favorite places in the world to shoot photos at, Off The Wall on the North Shore of Oahu. Gavin Beschen(@gavinbeschen808 ) attempting to pull in, although the wave had other plans. I am seen here shooting with @axisgo & iPhone 8 Plus with their pistol grip allowing me to shoot it normally and just the way I would my regular dslr camera and housing. Photo by @photokeoki #ZakNoyle
