The Map books produced by NASA engineers were designed to use photography, maps and technical information to determine Landing Sites for Moon mission landings. Images from both previous unmanned and manned Apollo missions were used, and cartographic references were added showing potential trajectories of the Lunar lander. Very few were produced - mainly as training manuals for the prime and backup Astronaut teams.
Each one tends to be unique as there were many edits as landing sites were chosen, then changed time and again.
This copy, as are all Lunar Landmark Map books, is very rare and a historical working document of NASA's lunar landing program. -----
NASA Apollo 14. CSM Lunar Landmark Maps, 1970
Estimate $6,000-9,000
-----
Approximately 60 gelatin silver prints including three 3-photo panoramas. Some photos mounted back to back. All gelatin silver prints on Chronopaque paper (fire resistant photographic paper developed by NASA after the Apollo 1 fire). Also included is a folder of plastic cartographic overlays as well as several offset photographs. Previously bound together and bookmarked with titled index tabs. Most prints have cartographic symbols and location names either hand-printed or are labeled directly on the print. .
