Not pretty, but pleasing.
Ham spinach and cheese muffins
Strawberry pikelets cupcakes
Muesli bars
Plain crackers
Rice (for the freezer)
Two weeks until school starts, so I'm freezer loading/school holiday feeding and testing new recipes for lunchboxes and dinners.

I am trying to get motivated to do SOMETHING right now. Anything. But...the boys are bouncing on the trampoline, and it's a cool, I'm just sitting, contemplating new scroll combos for the freezer. And contemplating another coffee. #andscrolling

Overhead cabinets - keep, new doors (timber? Grey? Black?) or remove cabinets completely?!
I'm leaning towards removing them!

Icy pole time! One lime and one, not really! After plenty of treats towards the end of the year and over Christmas and New Year, I'm trying to get a bit of nutrition back into the kids diet (and mine too 😳). Felix's is Otis' juice from this morning (apple, pear, cucumber, spinach, honeydew melon, lime and coconut water), and Otis' is just plain water! Felix is using a My Lil Ice Pop reusable silicone icy pole make, and Otis is using one of the boys new Zoku molds that they received from my cousin for Christmas - the sticks have legs and the icypole is the animal! #chubchubandgutsface

In a total cliche...sharing my #best9of2017
Family. Food. Flags. But you know what else I see? I see me. All of me. Me as Rosie, as wife, as mother, as food lover and me planning to travel with my sister in 2018. I feel like the first few years with young children is really just about survival - keeping them and you alive. And then you turn a corner, and there is the time, the space and the desire to find yourself again. Not the old you...she is gone, happy in the past. The new you, as a person who has a family, but is not completely defined by it, not just a mother keeping her kids alive. This happens at different stages for everyone...for me it was this year just gone, 2017.
I wonder what 2018 will bring?

Me too, too.
Dave is fishing, the boys are...somewhere? Bouncing? Legoing?
And after my huge bedroom rearrange and clean out yesterday, I'm sitting. Doing nothing. It's bliss!

All day he wanted to go to the beach. He asked so many times. At 7pm, we finally got there, just he and I. This was about as deep as he went, but I think it soothed his soul, like it did mine. Day 5 of our 6 days of Festive...closing out his last day as a 4yo at the beach. #iloveyouotisbailey

Do you ever just stop and look around and realize how much stuff you have...and how much you actually need? When we designed and built this kitchen, we added ALL the things. Storage, storage, storage...everywhere. And you know what...we don't need it all. The cupboards and drawers under the bench to the left of the sink are going in the new year (they're empty!) and will be replaced with 2 stools for the boys to eat their breakfast/easy dinners at. The high cupboards to the left and right of the rangehood? Almost empty. I'll be pulling them out over the Christmas holidays. I may replace them with one long shelf...I may not. I do love our big kitchen...but our house is small, and I just don't think we need all this space dedicated to 'holding' things. Things we don't even need. Things we don't even use.

I really need to get started. It's the first week of school holidays, last week before Christmas, a week and half until Otis' 5th birthday, the house needs tidying, cleaning and clearing out, shopping needs to be planned, Christmas holiday/birthday packing lists written. I'm planning an epic sort/tidy/clean out rearrange over the holidays in preparation for one school kid and one kinder kid next year, with a husband who will be working and traveling more than ever before and me, absolutely determined not to lose my shit in amongst it all...any more than necessary. It's to make this little family and this little house the BEST it can be in 2018. But first...another coffeeeeeeeee ☕️
