It amuses me that this horse has a Facebook page. And also that his name is apparently David Bates. #morselsinjapan

I ordered the mystery salad only to learn it’s a joke. I don’t fully get the joke, especially now in the light of day. But in any event, it was a glass of something akin to V-8.
The menu also includes something called fish ham. Nori assured us this is a real thing and not a joke.
I also learned last night that it’s common in Japan to pay a companion lady to sit with a man for an hour and make small talk. This is called a snack.

The coat hooks are shochu bottles. The wall, says Nori, is American style. Fair enough. #morselsinjapan

When we’re in Japan, most of the best times happen long after midnight. #morselsinjapan

I also wish we had these at home: a flushing sound in public bathrooms (to make you feel more alone) and a waste bin that opens with a wave and closes automatically. #morselsinjapan

Time to spend way too much time in Tokyu Hands! Also, this is a very strange display. If we normally exchange Xmas gifts, you can probably expect something from there. #morselsinjapan

It’s not a party until photos are taken behind the bar. The 3rd guy was just hanging out in the bar, I think. But after a little while, we were all friends, of course. #morselsinjapan

After dinner drinks. If I remember correctly (and my memory is pretty cloudy after last night...), the shochus in those big clay pots is what we drank out of a tea pot, warmed. It’s diluted and quite pleasing. I never would have thought I would like hot shochu!
As for the round of sparkling sake (or rather, ONE of the rounds), the bartender brought that out to really get the party started. We were told that even on a weeknight this bar doesn’t get hopping until quite late.

Dinner at a tiny hole-in-the-wall where there are multiple establishments tucked in together. The one through the door only does pig parts. Christopher wanted to take us there but it would have been standing room only around a tiny table. These jet-laggards needed seats! And no, we didn’t drink that whole bottle. But it feels like it. Oops. #morselsinjapan
