I just killed another brown pen, bringing total brown pen deaths to a guesstimate of 12 or so.

I've been doing a One Word exercise since 2016, setting just one word as my focus and to guide me for the entire year. I also pick out a corresponding verse from Scripture to go with it :)
This year I was set on doing the same, picking out BALANCE as my guiding word for the year. However two other sub-words kept pushing themselves to my consciousness and they're words I also need to be mindful of, so this year I have three guiding words instead of just one.
Is the One Word exercise something you also do? I've found it to be very powerful, and I'm hoping I can get a blog entry up regarding this before January is over. Hihi.

I'm participating in the #braver2018challenge to plan and set goals for the new year and this is my take on today's action step. We're supposed to write down the 5 core cultures of the course but I don't like following rules so I only wrote down/drew this one in my sketchbook because it resonates πŸ˜›
But this mantra holds true especially for creatives (and it's a reminder for me, too!). Sometimes I get asked by artist friends why they can't grow a following online. So I look at their IG and see that their gallery is a mix of their pets, art, food, their significant others... or if they do have a dedicated art account, they post only when they have art to show... which is every two weeks or once a month. Nyeeeeee.
Sean McCabe (@seanwes) shares that to build a following online (whether it's art, or writing, or vlogging, etc.), you have to show up CONSISTENTLY for a minimum of TWO YEARSβ€” two years of posting everyday, to build up a body of work, to develop tenacity, make a commitment. If you manage to get an audience before two years, then great! But for most, two years of showing up is the norm before results manifest.
I've had my moments of inconsistencies regarding this but for the most part, I am able to do this more than I disappear. I am grateful for those seasons several years back when I was able to share my work consistently across several platforms (Flickr, Behance, Tumblr, my website/blog, and now IG and FB)β€” it grows and builds up over time. So if you're frustrated you don't have a following now, you should've started two years ago. And if you want to have a following in the future, you should start now :)

Lately I've been using these watercolor brush pens from @shoptokyofindsβ€” it's faster and more convenient to color in my work with these rather than using a pen. Looking to get more colors next time 🌈

This is old art from 2015, when I lost color in my work as a reflection of what was going on in my life then (naks hahahahaha). To ease myself back into blogging, I wrote a new introductory blog post today that mentions a bit of what happened in 2015 and what's happened since then. Check it out: (direct link on my bio)
Looking to share more beyond art with you guys in the near future :)

Happy new year! Looking forward to a better year. As I mentioned in a previous post, I am scaling back in a big way on my art/work this 2018. The sketchbook is still a priority but that's only what I can fit in my schedule so that's what I will be focusing on this year, art-wise (I had so many plans and was trying to fit in so many other art things). I think I'm going to have to put art as a career on hold for now, huhu πŸ˜“ Been getting the Lord's leading to restart writing and blogging ( instead. Let's see where that leads to and how I can tie in my art with that :) I already have several blog posts in mind, including one with the title "God told me to break up with my agent" πŸ€£πŸ˜›

Haven't done any art in WEEKS 😭 so yesterday, the day after Christmas when generally everything slows down and feels lazy, I took the time to do this in my sketchbook.

Here's to more sketchbook art for next year! Thank you to all who've been following along on my art journeyβ€” the highs and lows, the changing styles spread out across the years, the seasons of digital and traditional art, and the in-betweens πŸ€—β€οΈ

Plot twists on my mind. I hate these plot twists... just when you think you know how your life/story is going to go, life throws something at you then you have to adjust and change direction.
Frustrating, but also exciting, these twists and turns. I'm on the edge of my seat in my own story... or rather, His story for me ☺️

Thanksgiving is over; Christmas is here!
In the middle of the year I opened a shop on The Hungry JPEG to sell my digital graphics packs. You can buy and download these vector gingerbread letters to put together custom words and phrases and even recolor them in Photoshop/Illustrator for your personal and commercial projects. Perfect for the holidays! πŸͺπŸͺπŸͺ

The past couple of years I've just been "pa-bunjee-bunjeeng" with my art because meh, I got derailed in 2015, no motivation, busy with ministry, blah blah, but having creative, motivated, and successful friends inspire me to keep getting back up and work at it. Grateful for this time spent with Titas @ella_lama, @marie_lama, and @aireescreates during our creative retreat for our 2018 art plans and goals πŸ€“ #ArtitasTagaytay

The beginnings of a vision board for my 2018 art goals and plans. Admittedly I am scaling back on my art goals next yearβ€” I can't dedicate as much time to my work as I used to when I was a fulltime freelance artist because of #adulting and #responsibilities that keep my plate full πŸ˜• but I pray that hopefully, my plans be aligned with God's plans for me, whatever His plans are.

Part of being in ministry is not just focusing on your relationship with God, but also on your relationships with others. As someone who likes her solitude (too much), this is challenging for me especially when I became involved in community (@wednesdayfeastfestivalalabang). Eeek, people 😱😱😱
I quite regularly give my time to people by talking with them 1-on-1 when needed (usually when they need bullying, err, I mean love and encouragement πŸ‘ŠπŸΌ #toughlove). But it's also nice when sometimes I'm the one who needs a 1-on-1 session and I get to hear what I need to hear from others ☺️

My sketchbook (currently on sketchbook #4) has been evolving and turning more into an art journal. Some would also consider it as a bullet journal. I'm not sure this is the direction I want my sketchbook to be going, but this is what comes out when I sit down to draw πŸ˜…

I truly believe that the starving artist stereotype is just a stereotype, especially in today's day and age. There are so many opportunities for artists today to earn money with their art, and there is no better time for one to be an artist, especially with the Internet.
I will be sharing how I've been selling my art on microstock sites, print-on-demand, and design marketplaces, earning me over P100,000 on the side in super passive income while I pursue other things. I'll be teaching tips and tricks, creative mindsets, positioning your art for trends, and social media techniques to get views and sales. If you'd like to get started on selling your art online, this seminar is for you. But do take noteβ€” this is NOT a get-rich-quick scheme, nor is it actually passive work especially in the beginning. BUT this is a LONG-TERM setup and if you start now, you will still be earning with your art years and years from now and you'll be glad you started today.
This seminar is best for graphic designers, illustrators, and artists who work and paint using traditional or digital media and have working knowledge of Photoshop.

Don't you have times in your life where you go, hey... this has happened before... different circumstances, different people, but essentially the same situation?
Sometimes what keeps us in the same repeating loop is our own negative habits and thought patterns. If we can just identify what we're doing wrong and make the changes that we need to, we can end the cycle and receive our breakthrough.
May we receive the wisdom, discernment, and enlightenment we need to learn the lessons we need to learn to break out of the loop and move forward πŸ™πŸΌ
