“ He demonstrated for me and convinced me that rigorous, precise, penetrating logic is not opposed to deep, soul stirring feeling and vivid , lively - even playful - imagination. He was a “romantic rationalist.” He combines things that almost everybody today assumes are mutually exclusive: rationalism and poetry, logic and warm feelings, disciplined prose and free imagination. In shattering these old stereotypes, he freed me to think hard and to write poetry, to argue for the resurrection and compose hymns to Christ, to smash an argument and hug a friend, to demand a definition and use a metaphor.” John Piper about C.S. Lewis

Do you guys feel a tension between rigorous thought and deep affection? Do most view these as mutually exclusive or can they be bound up consistently in the same soul? I’m curious....

Because every little girl gets excited to see a doll that looks just like them. These dress me note pads are too cute and keep lil hands busy. Thanks for creating diversity in your design @little_biscuits_notepads, it means probably more than you know.

9 adults and 26 kids....Different family cultures, special needs, ranging from babies to teens , all sorts of personalities, fighting leukemia, multiple adopted children, diverse ethnicities, fighting ovarian cancer, different instruments and languages, shared love for nature and friendship and faith, shy ones, funny ones, snarky ones, political ones, sweet ones, readers, climbers , musicians, writers, bakers, artists.... I’m not sure how I got to be in such a beautiful eclectic group of humans, but I thank God very often for the gift. For my children’s sake, and my own... we bear a lot together. Highs and lows, so I’m full blown sappy over these people today as we celebrate Friendsgiving .

A laugh it’s just like sunshine.
It freshens all day,
It tips the peak of life with light,
And drives the clouds away.
The soul grows glad that hears it
And feels it’s current strong.
A laugh is just like sunshine
For cheering folks along.

A laugh is just like music.
It lingers in the heart,
And where it’s melody is heard
The ills of life depart;
And happy thoughts come crowding
It’s joyful notes to greet.
A laugh it’s just like music
For making living sweet.

The mail brought a memoir about my dad today, by my uncle, I’m a mess now. “....My first impression of John was that he was open, approachable and friendly, while at the same time one who was tough, brave, resourceful, and adventurous, and spiritual too. John was someone who was tough and resolute, but who would look you in the eye and treat you with respect....John was a natural born counselor. He conveyed wisdom in an easy to understand way. He was direct. He would look you in the eye. He was very respectful to you, he addressed you on even keel, he was not one to condescend, he did not try to intimidate. He supported his point with scripture.... there was an old abandoned concrete bridge, about 60 feet above the river, John jumped from the bridge to the deep river below over and over... The Beatles song “Rocky raccoon“ remind me of John, since he had a pet raccoon as a kid...John lived to have fun. I remember him plunging into the cold water of Saint Joe River, sledding down the ice and snow cover country Road and our snowball wars.

John was a spiritual mentor whom I greatly admired and looked up to, and I will always remember him fondly. “

Wrapping up a sweet lil family shoot.... they charged a steep dirt hill for me to get this shot. Ahhh the cool evening air was good for my soul. I really enjoy documenting families, especially families that will get their 🍑’s dirty if need be ❤️

“For my own part, I tend to find the doctrinal books often more helpful in devotion than the devotional books, and I rather suspect that the same experience may await others. I believe that many who find that ‘nothing happens’ when they sit down, or kneel down, to a book of devotion, would find that the heart sings unbidden while they are working their way through a tough bit of theology with a pipe in their teeth and a pencil in their hand.” ― C.S. Lewis

The thought of my hubby fighting brain cancer is hard to bear, but that’s exactly what @dearlittlewolves is doing. He’s their everything, can you imagine? Their family is bearing so much right now and they could use some serious love. They are facing numerous needs and medical bills ... if you feel so inclined, follow the link in her profile and donate to their you care site? I know them personally, this is a sweet family facing such hard times. They are fighting with hope and love. Thank you for any generosity and prayers their way 🙌🏼 @dearlittlewolves we love you guys!
