Philadelphia Eagles fan Sonny Laurent and myself, a Dallas Cowboys fan, were able to cross a deep sports divide so to work together covering the impact of Hurricane Irma in St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. It's those times of trial that can bring warring factions together.

Flowers were laid Sunday at a makeshift memorial for 32-year-old Heather Heyer, who was killed Saturday when a car rammed into a crowd of people protesting against the white supremacist Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. The incident left Heyer dead and at least 19 other people injured. 20-year-old James Alex Fields Jr. of Maumee, Ohio, faces charges of second-degree murder. The Department of Justice and the FBI have launched a civil rights investigation into the deadly crash. President Trump denounced what he called an “egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides.” Many people, both Democrats and Republicans, criticized the President for not explicitly denouncing white supremacists. #Repost @nbcnews “They tried to kill my child to shut her up. Well, guess what? You just magnified her,” said Heather Heyer’s mother at her daughter’s memorial in #Charlottesville on Wednesday.
Clergy gathered outside the theater, above, observed a moment of silence during the service.
The 32-year-old was remembered for her passion for equality at an early age and would swiftly call out something that wasn't right. Her father told about 1,000 mourners gathered inside that she wanted respect for everyone and believed all lives matter.
#HeatherHeyer was among the hundreds of protesters who had gathered Saturday in Charlottesville to decry what was believed to be the largest gathering of white supremacists in a decade — including neo-Nazis, skinheads and Ku Klux Klan members. They descended on the city for a rally prompted by the city's decision to remove a Confederate monument.
