Cloud of Petals, Sarah Meyohas’s latest project, is as ethereal and delightfully obscure as it sounds. Opening at Red Bull Arts on October 12, the 26-year-old artist's show features a film, vitrines made by wall panels from Bell Labs fitted with two-way mirrors, six virtual reality simulations depicting digitized and pixelated rose petals, and two wall displays of 3,200 individually pressed and preserved petals.

Alia Shawkat isn’t just the producer and star of @searchpartytbs. In fact, she’s also a painter, singer, writer and possibly a future director. "With all the attention that comes from being an actor—on set and when doing press—you have to maintain a certain kind of energy and be open and snappy and interactive. When I’m painting or singing, I get to experience a different side of that. With singing, I don’t necessarily have to share my own personality, but I get to be emotional."

Appearing in one of the year’s most anticipated films sounds glamorous, but for @sylviahoeks, the road there was anything but. “I was filming a movie in Germany and didn’t have time to make a proper casting tape,” she says of her audition for @bladerunnermovie, this month’s sequel to the 1982 cult classic. “In the middle of the night, I sat against the door of my Airbnb, because that’s where I could plug in the most lamps to light myself, and I just ran the scene with a handheld camera until dawn.”

Stars of Norwegian teen series #Skam, Tarjei Sandvik Moe and Henrik Holm are the poster boys for a fandom so large and malleable that their characters became real. "I’ve met so many people that were affected by, not only the characters and how we portray them, but also the fan base and the warmth inside of all the fans that it became a family that started connecting with each other from across the world. They found something that they could enjoy together and can talk about as much as they wanted." —@henkeholm

Artist Rachel Rose now produces one video a year, each about ten minutes in length and accompanied by site-specific installations she builds to reflect the video’s central feeling. When asked to describe the source of her curious passions, she mentions "The Rings of Saturn," a meandering book by W.G. Sebald, which blends fact and fiction. “I’m into his trompe l’oeil-ing through time,” she says. “You feel the transition fully, one thing morphs into another.”

Ta-Nehisi Coates talks about failing in order to move forward: “Even before I became a writer, I accepted the possibility of failure in my daily life. It was just the fact of my life: I could try to be a good person, but pretty much everything else that was going to happen to me out in the world was beyond my control. And it probably was not going to end too well. That was my thought. And even if that was a place I didn't want to be, that was my home, that's where I lived. Even after I started writing for The Atlantic, I remember just waiting for everything to go wrong at some point. And it didn't. And it probably won't.”

“I'm happy to say, that my ego has gotten smaller over time. I used to be so afraid about what people were going to think of me, if I was going to be accepted, if I was going to be loved. I put a lot of energy into the perception of myself.” -@penelopecruzoficial 📸 @christian_macdonald_studio

Ten-year-old Will Tilston and 22-year-old Alex Lawther both star as the film’s namesake in the stirring A.A. Milne biopic, “Goodbye Christopher Robin.” Lawther described the sadness that came with learning of the titular character’s real-life story: "He did a radio interview later in life where he said to the presenter, ‘If anybody knows a desert island where I can go and just be by myself, let me know,’ ” Lawther says. “It broke my heart.” 📸 @guylowndes Styling @nicjottkandt
Jonas Mekas, the Godfather of American avant-garde film, has never paused to second guess himself:
"I don't care about creativity. If one begins with creativity then that's the end. One just has to do what one feels that one wants to do and what one has to do. If I don't do [what I want] they will have to lock me up in an insane asylum. [laughs] I must do it! That's nonsense, this creativity thing. Who cares about it?! You just do it. There must be some passion in it, some intensity in it to be of any relevance to others."

Michelle Obama told us why she loves design extraordinaire Jason Wu: “I'm drawn to Jason not just because of his remarkable talent, but also because of his warmth of spirit, kind heart, and inspiring personal story. When we talk about the American Dream, we're talking about people like him.”

Beloved performer, author, and all-around national treasure @amysedaris is adding yet another credit to her résumé with her forthcoming series @AtHomewithAmySedaris. "I'm drawn to real-life characters. A lot of the characters I play, I've had in me since second grade. I've been dragging them around my entire life, and then sometimes I marry them with different people. But seldom have I really come up with a new character...For this new TV show, there is this Southern women I play, and she's a combination of a bunch of Southern women I know and a character I do for my family when we're at the beach. I give these fake ghost tours of the island we go to." 📸 @victordemarchelier
