I believe in lifting one another up. We are better together. But before you can do so, you must take care of yourself. •

One of my goals this year is to take better care of myself. Between running and @gixofit classes, I have the exercise part down. I eat a mostly healthy #vegan diet. I generally get enough sleep. It's kind of the body care that I'm lacking.

So, to start on a high note, I had a massage today. It was amazing. As a runner, I expect all those tight quads, glutes, and hamstrings, but my "blogging muscles, " my back, shoulders, and neck, were in even worse shape! 😏 A good reminder that self-care begins at home. 😚

I usually run alone. I actually love it, but sometimes I do miss the company of running friends.

Today, thanks to @gixofit , I had the chance to run with my Ragnar teammate @jamiekingfit even though she is in Oregon and I'm in SoCal!

We were both signed up for the Cardio Quickie, a 25 minute class that incorporates a warm-up, some intervals and sprints, plus a cooldown. It was challenging and fun and of course I loved the chance to run with an old friend even if it was virtually. •

I had a little more on my schedule so after class I headed out for my hill workout. 5 more miles, 8 hill repeats, a couple uphill intervals, and one downhill interval. Whew!

Today I'm sharing my favorite go-to recipe for homemade seitan. Its quick and easy to make your own "wheat meat" at home!

Still scratching your head? Seitan is a delicious meat substitute made from wheat gluten. It has a meaty texture and can be seasoned in many ways making it a perfect fit for your favorite recipes.

The plan was a rest day, but I have to work early tomorrow, so...

Instead I did an interval workout! 6 x 1/2 mile repeats at about 5k effort. I do them on the road near my home. Pretty pleased with myself and ready for that day off tomorrow. •

Today's recovery run was hard, I won't lie to you. Tomorrow is a rest day and I can't wait. But today I get to run with @alantwoodruff who was coming off an 80 mile bike ride. Needless to say, with that and my 12 mile run yesterday, our #trailrun was slow and easy.

Running on tired legs can be beneficial as long as you can still run with good form and nothing is hurting. The key is to realize when it is better to take an extra day off.

No, I don't pretend to be Superwoman, though society pushes that upon women. We are frequently expected to be all, do all, and know all. If you're old enough to remember this, we're supposed to bring home the bacon then fry it all up in a pan.

But that's not reality. Yes, we're strong, tough, limitless, but we are only human. I guess my point is don't be too hard on yourself when you can't do it all. And remember we are stronger when we work together.

FYI, that bacon quote is from a 1978 commercial for Enjoli titled "Because I'm a Woman." Jeez, either we were expected to stay home and be pretty housewives, or have a career. And still be pretty housewives.

Oh, and by the way. I ran 12 miles today. Longest run in a long time!

I'm so lucky to work at a gym. Not only do I get to share my love of fitness and help my clients and students get stronger and live healthier lives, I have such easy access to the tools that make me stronger.

I love variety in my workouts, how about you? At home, I've been using #gixofit and loving the live classes and short, challenging workouts. (See my review #ontheblog link is in my profile).

When I'm at the gym I love to head to the @trxtraining for my #bodyweighttraining workout. I love the variety and challenge.

Dark, rainy days don't last long around here! I don't dare talk about chilly when I have so many friends surviving winter on the east coast. And the midwest. And the north. Basically everywhere but here in southern California. 🙄

I missed my tempo run on Tuesday because of the rain, so I needed to get it done today. I wasn't feeling it though, so I tried to have a little fun with it. And what's more fun than a ladder workout?

Well, maybe a lot of things, but we're talking speedwork here. 🙄 I started with a mile warm up, then ran 1/4 mile at a hard pace. 1/4 mile recovery, then a half mile hard. 1/4 mile recovery, then one mile hard. Then I worked my way back down the ladder (seriously the best part of the workout 👌). Six miles total with about 2.5 at hard tempo pace. •

So all the jumps can't be perfect. Doesn't matter. In my spirit I feel I'm jumping to the sky. I am limitless and so are you!

My work is not a bad place to run.

Woke up this morning to heavy rain so my planned tempo run with @alantwoodruff was not to be.

I'm an optimist though, so I brought my running gear to work. I work at a gym so I had 2 options during my open time. Treadmill or (fingers crossed) the rain would let up a bit and I could run outdoors. As you can see, option 2 happened!

I will admit, it is hard for me to run later than normal, but I also knew that the hardest part is simply to start. And so I did. And while I didn't get that tempo run, , the country club where I work has many hills to climb so I challenged myself to really push on those uphills. Five miles done!

Making lemonade! Or rather tequila shots! 🤣

Today was a rest day for running so I did 2, count 'em, 2 #gixofit classes! #ad Booty Work and Total Core for the win! They were each only 15 minutes but Emily (she taught both classes) managed to kick my butt! (Scroll through to see my helpful dogs. Though they did poop out about halfway through class. 🤣)

I tell you, I'm loving these workouts, especially Total Core. I hate doing ab work but having a structured, SHORT class with a live instructor is so much fun! My abs were sore all weekend from my first class!

2018 is going to be a great year! I'm trying to move beyond goals or resolutions to achieve permanent change. This is real life and #IAMLIMITLESS!

Recovery run with @alantwoodruff this morning. I was tired from my long run, he had bike legs, but we managed 5+ trail miles.

Eleven miles in the books this morning. It's been a good training week. Nailed my workouts. Palm Desert Half Marathon here I come!

I just completed my first @gixofit class! I loved Total Core. A bit of a challenge with my dogs "helping" me (see my story for more about that), but it was a great, quick workout.

I had 1/2 mile intervals on the schedule this morning, but I just wasn't feeling it. I'd had a great tempo run on Tuesday, so I decided to hit up the hills this morning!

It's a 1.5 mile uphill run to my favorite hill, so after about a .75 warm up I picked up the pace for .35 miles, recovered for a bit, the repeated the interval for .25 miles.

That was the appetizer. The main course was 6 hill repeats, my first in a while. I'm training for the Palm Desert Half Marathon, which is fairly flat but, as they say, hill repeats are speedwork in disguise! Plus they're a great strength-builder. •

So, if you had the choice would you run intervals or hill repeats? •

Is reducing your sugar consumption one of your 2018 goals? It's one of mine! #ad

If so, I have a few tips that can help. Plus this recipe. I call it Froozer Fondue. It's a no-added sugar, caramel chia pudding, used to dip the @froozerfruits Fruit Snacks into. It's fun, easy to make, and delicious! And it only has four ingredients. •

Froozer fruit bars are 100% fruit. Not juice. Not concentrate. No sugar, additives, or artificial anything. Just pure, ripe fruit. They make a great snack for kids or adults, and they are perfect dippers for the Froozer Fondue!

One of my plans for 2018 is to take better care of my body. After many years of running, I need a little more self-care. That includes yoga, foam rolling, stretching, and hopefully, a monthly massage or fascial stretch therapy session. I'm already pretty good about resting, both including it in my schedule and taking a little extra when I need it.

So today, the first day of the new year, as much as I wanted to get out and run, instead I went for a walk, enjoyed the beautiful day, and struck a few yoga poses. 😏 After 4 straight days, and knowing I'll be running with @alantwoodruff tomorrow, an easy walk was definitely the order of the day. And I followed up with some quality time with my foam roller!
