Yesterday at Annabelle’s birthday dinner all of the kids ordered ice cream sundaes with cherries on top. They all HATE cherries, 🍒 but they did it because they know Catie LOVES them. We earned our first five kindness hearts in seconds. 😂
One of my goals of our 100 ACTS OF KINDNESS CHALLENGE is to intentionally spend time teaching my kids what kindness looks like and how it makes people feel... both as we give and receive kindness. .
Tonight during our family kindness meeting, I chromecasted my kindness Facebook group onto our big computer screen and scrolled through photos of kids around the country and world that got started on our challenge yesterday. We also watched @kellyejensen’s hot cocoa stand video from Christmas and totally teared up. 😭😭 Then we set our kindness goals for the week using @coffeeandcrayon’s 100 acts of kindness list. ☑️
Often I get sucked into the negativity of the news and each year this challenge reminds me that there is so much goodness and so many amazing people out there! .
If you are joining in this month, feel free to tag me and Megan or use the hashtag #100actsofkindness so we can find you and be inspired by you. 💕 .
Whenever we do our super simple acts of kindness during this challenge we are reminded, “Not all of us can do great things, But we can do small things with great love.” -Mother Teresa
If you are joining us this month, comment with a ❤️ .
(if you’re new to our challenge, click the link in my profile for details).

2 years ago this evening, I discovered that the weird stomach cramps I was having weren’t going away and I was actually in labor. Our amazing neighbors came over to camp out on our couch overnight while we headed to the hospital. A few hours later, Annabelle arrived! This little sweetheart 💕 has brought so much joy to our family ever since and might be the most photographed fourth child ever. 🤣 Can’t wait for this little one to wake up tomorrow so we can celebrate her turning TWO! 🎉🎉 (swipe left to see a few favorite pictures of her 😜).

This SQUISH BAG saved the day yesterday!! 🎉🎉 It is pretty much the only thing that would keep Annabelle occupied while I attempted making dinner and cleaning up after our afternoon Girl Scout troop crafting meeting 😜 (with lots of glue and paper scraps everywhere). .
As I’ve mentioned before, she’s OBSESSED with Nemo and Dory. 😂 🐠 “Where’s Nemo?” And “Take a bath with Dory?” are on repeat and I can’t spend all day watching her play in the bathroom. 😜 This squish bag was a great (and cleaner) alternative to a sensory bin and she could push the animals around and try and pop the bubbles too. .
Eventually enthusiastic toddlers will break the bags if you don’t double and triple bag them... but hey, I got my “to do” list done before then... so it was a win! 🙌 More details are on the blog. Just go to

With the excitement of the holidays over and a lot of rain this past week, it has been easy to feel a little grumpy. One of the reasons I love our 100 Acts of Kindness Challenge this time of the year is because when you forget yourself and look outward, you can’t help but feel happier (and kinder). 💕
Someone mentioned to me the other day that 100 acts of kindness is too hard for little kids and that we should just do 10, because that’s more age appropriate. I loved her thoughtful observation, but the number of acts of kindness is not the point and really doesn’t matter. Whether you do 1 amazing act of kindness during our challenge or 1,000, you WILL make a difference. .
I love the quote that says, “Children are great imitators, so give them something great to imitate.” This kindness challenge is just as much for me as it is for my kids. I want them to learn to be kind, but I also need help in this area... especially as a mom. I want to give them someone great to imitate, and I’m not there yet (as evidenced by the tears I caused earlier tonight about a few too many silly things). 😢.
If you’re in the same boat as me and need a little boost to be a bit kinder of a mom this month, I hope you’ll join us. We’re starting on Monday, January 15th... and going through Feb 14th— though you can start now and give yourself extra credit 😜⭐️❤️ The link with details is in my profile.

Continuing with our painting theme, yesterday Annabelle helped me make a paper bag bear mask for BEAR WEEK 🐻 this week. We love to chat about hibernation around this time of year and build bear caves (aka forts) and make bear snacks. .
FEATURED BOOK: Bear Snores On by @karmawilsonbooks.
I’ll add a few other favorite bear activities in my stories. Bear toast is always the biggest hit around here. .
Banana decided that she wanted to paint with gold, blue, and red... so our bear is a little flashier than the bear in the book. On the blog are a bunch of other ideas from our Virtual Book Club for Kids friends!!
If you have any other favorite bear books, pass them along! 📚 We need a few more to add to our repertoire!

Thanks to @mamapapabubba we had to most fun afternoon! 🎨 Pop over and check out her BATHTUB ART STUDIO post and instastory (only live for a few more hours). Annabelle may be entirely covered in blue paint now 🤣... but at least most of the fun was all had in the bathtub.

Last night this cutie was having nightmares or is teething (or both) around 2am..., so I went in and rocked her and cuddled with her for twenty minutes. She clung to me like glue and I loved it. 💕 When I put her back to bed, her eyes opened wide and she said, “Daddy cuddle?” I tapped Kev when I hopped in bed and told him her request. He immediately got out of bed and went down to see her... because we’re both smitten and know far to well that these years are flying by 😭😭 and we don’t want to miss any of these darling toddler cuddles.

Megan had a newborn last January and I had a newborn the previous January... so we are both pretty stoked that we are a bit more organized with our 💕100 ACTS OF KINDNESS CHALLENGE this year!! 🎉🎉 .
If you missed the announcement, hop back to my previous post. This printable countdown poster is on the blog now and @coffeeandcrayon has the most darling recording printable on her blog right now too. You can click the link in my profile to find both of them.
For our poster, you can print it at Costco and use it with markers or just cover it with stickers. The kids are dying for it to be January 15th so we can get started and they are pretty stoked that our launch day lands on Annabelle’s Birthday this year.
Our family tradition is to do a service project of some sort on Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan 15) and then continue doing 100 acts of kindness all the way to Valentine’s Day. We’re still brainstorming what we’re going to do. If you have any ideas, I’d love to hear about them!

“Owning less is better than organizing more.” - Joshua Becker
But sometimes you find a cute pink coat after you organize and de-clutter the garage for 6 hours that fits perfectly right now (and a dozen of other useful things)... and slowly and stealthily the kids move the piles back into the house. 😂 .
Anyone else have that problem? 😜🙋‍♀️ What are your de-owning tips? I’m in purge mode over here. .
PS- this girl turns TWO in a few days 😭😭😭

This year we’ve been especially grateful for family (near/far), decent health, and real angels in our lives that buoy us up and show love to us constantly. ❤️❤️❤️

I think one of my New Year’s goals might include eating more ice cream sundaes like this one in 2018. 😜😂
I also might set a goal to head off on a #mombreak again next year after the Christmas craziness. 🎉 My own hotel room + uninterrupted sleep + hours of visiting with family members has been so recharging! I also managed to fit in dinner/dessert at @vivo53 with one of my favorite toddler blogging friends- @busytoddler!!
Anyone else have a mom break/girls trip on their 2018 agenda? Where are you going? Or where do you wish you were going??

Now that the Christmas craziness has died down, of course we’re gearing up for the next party. 😜😂 This year we’re keeping things a little more chill but I’m sharing a few of our past favorite NEW YEARS EVE IDEAS FOR KIDS on the blog today. Go to the link in my profile for more details.
I’d love to hear how NYE works at your house. Do you stay up? Let the kids stay up? Countdown early? Do you have any favorite NYE traditions with your family??

Toddlers at Christmas are pretty hysterical. This girl kept her helmet on all day, stole everyone’s candy from their stockings when they weren’t looking, and was more excited about the pictures on the boxes than the actual presents. 😂 .
Did your toddler have a favorite gift (that wasn’t a box 😜)?

Our toddler version of the Nativity story tonight (that was like literally 2 minutes long 😂) was perfect. We ended the night with peppermint ice cream pie and obligatory pj pictures followed by some final room/house cleaning. The kids were super stoked about that 😜🤣 but we’re losing our leverage after tomorrow so we figured today was the day. .
Hope your Christmas Eve was joyful and possibly not as chaotic and crazy as ours! Crossing my fingers we’ll get to bed earlier than past years 🤞🤞 and wishing you all the same!! ❤️❤️

This morning we made breakfast for, sang to, and gave simple gifts to several amazing people at the Contra Costa Homeless Shelter. Annabelle loved running around and waving and giving high fives to people. It was a beautiful way to start our Christmas Eve. We had some great conversations on the drive there and home about why we serve, how service can be hard or uncomfortable sometimes, and how those we served are children of God just like us. ❤️❤️❤️ .
Our goal in 2018 is to find more ways to serve others that get us out of our comfort zones and help us teach our kids the importance of giving. Do you have any ways that your family likes to serve in your community, church, neighborhoods? A friend shared this opportunity and we are so grateful we were invited to participate. .

We’ll probably also drink hot chocolate because that’s a must during this movie too. Last year we watched the movie on a big screen with our projector in our living room. The kids put the chairs together to look like a train. It was so fun! I want to try and make a cardboard box train this year... but we’ll see what happens. It is a busy day! .
Thanks for joining us for our #23daysofChristmas Series! If you have a sec, comment and tell me what your favorite activity was this year!
I think ours was a tie between the cardboard gingerbread houses and the sticker trees.
