Happy Friday the 13th. Do you believe in ghosts? Maybe you do, or maybe you don't, but you can’t deny that many other people say they’ve experienced them. SLUG certainly has a few friends like that, people in our community who’ve lived in or visited houses with ghosts, which could be in your neighborhood. In our October issue, they share their tales. Believe them or not, they know what they’ve seen, heard and felt. What do you believe?

It’s a spooky time. The days are shortening, the nights grow long, and October and Halloween evoke thoughts of ghosts who haunt our homes. SLUG illustrator Drew Grella (@wishinmunster) veritably animates this ghostly spirit of Halloween, and enlivens these ghosts’ emotions with playful color. Whether they’re all tall tales or longing souls, Grella depicts the breadth of this phenomenon in our collective psyche. Find his work at

The Wasatch Community Gardens’ GREEN TEAM initiative guides homeless women through education on how to garden amid other life skills. The mission of the GREEN TEAM was threefold: to support permanent housing and work for homeless women, to provide produce to Head Start—a program to give quality food to local schools—and to cultivate a shared community space that would thrive in an oft ignored area of the city. 📷: John Barkiple
