In search for color to brighten dreary winter days? This super creamy, dairy-free clementine, carrot, and tahini soup is exactly what you need! 🍊🥕🧡 The soup uses a ton of carrots for a welcome vitamin boost, a couple of clementines for a bright flavor uplift, and tahini for a lovely, rich creaminess. Because I think soups are infinitely more interesting with toppings, I serve this soup topped with a spiced, slight spicy yogurt, crushed pistachios, and sesame seeds to echo the flavor of the tahini 👌🏼 It’s a memorable bowl, so you might as well make a double or triple batch—especially because it freezes well, too!

Roasted Sweet Potato, Lentil, and Orange Salad

A riot of flavor and textures, this colorful salad inevitably creates a wow effect every time I serve it. It’s an excellent way to sneak healthy lentils into your diet, though you could substitute chickpeas if you prefer.

I will remember George Town’s creative, diverse, amazing coffeeshops for a long time. Among my favorites:
.
Photos 1 & 2 - @ome.space, for its leafy entrance, minimalist interior, and sprinkle of flaky sea salt on servings of warm zucchini and olive oil bread 👌🏼
.
3 & 4 - @chinahousepenang, for its boudoir looks, artsy atmosphere, and incredible (!!) cake bar 🍰
.
5 & 6 - @thenookbooksandcoffee, for its tiny library feel and meticulously pulled espressos ☕️
.
7 - @blackkettlemy, for its perfect French pastries 🥐
.
8 & 9 - @awesome_canteen, for its funky wire furniture and main room so airy there were actual trees in it 🌳

4. “Love Me Like Your Fortune Cat,” by an artist collective called ASA, or Artists for Stray Animals. This mural is part of a series of 12 murals called “101 Lost Kittens.” The objective of this project is to create awareness about stray animals and help find them caring homes.
5. “Kids on Bicycle” by Ernest Zacharevic, the creator of some of the most famous street art in George Town
6. One of the welded iron wall caricatures that are meant to depict the early settlement days and explain the stories behind street names and landmarks. There are currently over two dozen of these; upon completion of the project, there will be 52.

Coconut Lemon Bars
Pages 32-33, Lemon Chapter
In this delicious, dairy-free variation of a timeless classic, coconut adds an exotic twist: toasted shredded coconut gives a nice crunch to the crust while the rich aroma of coconut oil rounds off the tartness of lemon.

Have you made new year's resolutions? I say 2018 should be the year we all stop eating bland. Sometimes the path to deliciousness involves making things from scratch we never thought we'd make, and sometimes those things are actually surprisingly easy to make. Case in point: homemade ricotta. I bet many of you have never thought twice when buying a tub of ricotta at the store--yet, it's probably the easiest cheese you could make at home. The result is a milky rich delight you can use any and every way you'd use store-bought ricotta, and more. My favorite way to serve and enjoy homemade ricotta is the simplest: I whip it and serve it topped with lemon zest, olive oil, coarse sea salt, and cracked black pepper, along with fresh baguette slices to dip 👌🏼 Check out my detailed How to Make Homemade Ricotta post, and you could feast on this snack right this weekend! I'm currently traveling through Malaysia, where I was surprised to find some truly delicious desserts--in Penang, more specifically, where the coffee shop game is strong. Because it's so hot and humid here, I've taken a habit of buying a slice of whatever passion fruit-infused creation that comes my way. I find passion fruit to be such a refreshing, aromatic, and exotic flavor, it's a great one to enjoy in warm weather. But then I remember how delightfully comforting this Passion Fruit and Lemon Drizzle Cake felt on freezing cold winter days, so I thought it was worth resharing for my friends back home 🌨❄️ Hang tight! And make this cake, I promise it'll warm up your day 🍋💛

☁️ Dreamy BBQ Pork Buns Alert! ☁️
I went on a food tour in Kuala Lumpur (always my favorite thing to do on a trip!) and witnessed the fluffiest pork buns being made. A man has been making them for decades in the same spot, at the top of a nondescript alley in KL’s Chinatown, and he’s taught his nephew to join him prepping and selling 200+ pork buns every day. They start making the dough from scratch every morning, then shape, fill, and steam the buns so they’re ready to sell around 12:30pm. I always find watching someone kneading dough to be mesmerizing, but these guys were something else, like synchronized dancers. What an art! Meeting people who are such masters at what they do because they’ve been doing the same thing over and over again, daily, for years, always blows my mind and humbles me, in a way. I haven’t mastered anything the way these guys have mastered pork buns, and I bet if you asked them, they’d tell you they still have a lot to learn.
.
Swipe left to see a movie of the dough-making process, then of the steaming hot buns being brought up for sale. I would travel for a handful of things I’ve eaten around the world, and these BBQ pork buns have just climbed right at the very top of that list 😍
.
If you’re traveling to KL, you’ll have to keep your eyes peeled to find these guys, as they have no storefront or restaurant name. They’re located at the top of an alley off Jalan Sultan, close to Coffee Amo. The alley is more of a free form flea market, and the buns kiosk is right at the street corner. Go around 9:30am if you want to see them make their dough, or around 12:30pm if you want to eat one (or three!) of their life-changing barbecue buns.

Kale, Cilantro, and Chorizo Tabbouleh
Pages 52-52, Lime chapter
I like tabbouleh to pile on textures and flavors: it then becomes a hearty salad you could eat as a main dish if you felt like it. With salty, crunchy, and smoky elements, this nourishing version is downright dreamy served with a runny egg on top.

{Salad Days} Here's another one of my favorite wholesome bowls! Over the past few days, I've shared recipes to help you reboot your holiday-recovering system by eating whole grains, vegetables, and lean proteins. Check out my profile {@foodnouveau} to see all of them!
.
Who said fried rice couldn't be healthy? This Curried Cauliflower Fried Rice will sure do your body good. It uses a limited amount of (coconut) oil and is filled with nutritious, aromatic ingredients--but the recipe’s truly genius idea is to use a 2-to-1 chopped cauliflower-to-rice ratio. The substitution boosts the veggie content and provides great texture to boot 💪🏼

{Salad Days} This week, I'm sharing some of my favorite wholesome bowls to help you reboot your holiday-recovering system by eating whole grains, vegetables, and lean proteins. This Green Buddha Bowl has got to be one of my favorite recipes in that category and I have to admit the Tahini Miso Dressing is largely responsible for my infatuation 😍 Nutty, creamy, and toasty, it's liquid umami you'll probably want to drizzle over anything and everything after tasting it. What's great about the salad itself is that it's versatile: you can use your choice of protein, green veggies, and whole grains, which will allow you to can make it often and never get bored 🙌🏼

{Salad Days} It's a new year! Have you made food-related resolutions? Your body may need a break after indulging over the holidays, but no need to deprive it to feel better. Fill up your plate with whole grains, vegetables, and lean proteins such as lentils and tofu, and I promise you'll feel your energy levels climb back up in no time. Over the next few days, I'll be sharing some of my favorite wholesome bowls in the hopes that they can inspire you to "cleanse" your system by actually eating--healthy foods, that is.
.
First up is my Lentil Niçoise Salad. In this twist on a classic French recipe, I swapped lentils for the usual tuna. I love using lentils in this dish because they're fiber-rich, lean, and cheap--another reason why this salad is a good idea in January! Although the salad features many components, the recipe's clever method should allow you to pull it together in just about 30 minutes. Another bonus: you can prepare most components in advance and assemble the salad last minute. Great for a weekday lunch, and elegant enough for a weekend brunch👌🏼

{New Year’s Bites} A cocktail party spread wouldn’t be complete without meatballs. Am I right? Everyone loves meatballs—and these Indian Lamb Meatballs are the most popular I’ve ever made. To be honest, I make them for any and all occasions, and because I usually keep a stash in the freezer, I even serve them for dinner on weeknights. They’re extremely aromatic and a bit exotic, and the chutney I serve them with is so good I’m known to eat it by the spoonful 🙊
