Greetings from New Mexico. Big sky, all the light, all the textures. Spent the day art hunting and researching on Canyon Road. 💫🙏🏼 🌵🍂
My work in this light filled, modern, family friendly space is giving me butterflies. I am all about color and texture and this room definitely delivers. Design by @christophercburns

Earlier today in my studio working on some new paintings and just unwinding a bit after a fun but busy weekend. Sometimes you just need to be alone in the quiet to reset. That was me today. Here's to a fresh week ahead. #monicashulmanstudio #myhappyplace #artflowsessions #widn #makeart #beart

Here's to a colorful weekend, friends! We are headed even farther out to the country to pick some apples and pumpkins. Hope yours is just as fun. 🍎🍁 #monicashulmanstudio #artflowsessions #workinprogress #creativityfound #designsponge
I am sharing some photos from my trip to Greece this summer on my blog this week. That rich, deep, inspiring blue was everywhere from their beautiful flag to the sea to the buildings. I'm always inspired by the big and small details of a place and Greece was so incredible to explore. Link is in my profile if you'd like to see. I'll also be offering the black and white version of this piece in my shop very soon. I just did a test print to hang in my studio and it's so dreamy I think I need one for my home, too. Happy Wednesday, friends! Make it an inspiring one! #monicashulmanstudio #artflowsessions #photographyislife #greece2017 #seayousoon

Live life in color! I'm always working on multiple pieces at a time and I still don't know what these will become but I'm excited to find out. I do know that I am all about the color these days. My closet is mostly black, white, navy and olive green but lately I'm throwing in some brights for good measure and it feels great! I see a lot of those tones in my work and it's a surprise for me. Something like this will really pop on your walls! Stay tuned.... 🌈🎨#monicashulmanstudio #artflowsessions #mlsphotostories #designideas #flashesofdelight #designsponge #dsathome #makersmovement #makersgonnamake #makeart #beart
When this gorgeous image shows up in your Instagram feed on a Monday morning you just know it's going to be an awesome week. One of my favorite images from my archives in this absolutely stunning living room by the tremendously talented @christophercburns The guy is a master of color. I love my image in this beautiful space! 💚💫

Today is this man's birthday. For 16 years he has been by my side as my best friend and my biggest cheerleader. He's brought me coffee in bed and has never missed a day (even today on his birthday!) and he has had infinite amounts of patience, has made me laugh so hard and has been my shoulder to cry on. If he can feel even an ounce of the love our family has for him, then I'll feel happy. Happy birthday, baby ❤💕💫 #toinfinityandbeyond #monicashulmanstudio #mlsphotostories

"Every day you see one more card...You take it on faith, you take it to the heart...The waiting is the hardest part" Have been listening to Tom Petty all week. With everything happening in the news and then his death, an American icon who provided a lot of the soundtrack of my younger years, there has been so much, too much, to process. I have been so busy with my work and my family that there hasn't been much time to be with my thoughts in the quiet. I think with everything in the news that's both a good and bad thing. So I went to my art class this morning and painted with oils which is something I haven't done in over 20 years. I could have been sitting in the studio where I learned to paint on Long Island as a teenager because I was feeling that same freedom of just doing something for the sake of doing it and listening to the same music I listened to back then. Memory is a funny thing. Just when you haven't thought of something or someone in years one simple act and a song can take you back to that moment. For me today it was the smell of linseed oil and the way my hand felt when I made a brush stroke with thick oil paint. Of course while listening to this song--a personal favorite. Not taking these moments or memories for granted. #monicashulmanstudio #artflowsessions #studiotime #mlsphotostories #makeart #create #riptompetty
Took all of my feelings over yesterday's news and made them into this door. It's overwhelming to feel that life can feel so beautiful and tragic all in one day. I started my day with my husband bringing me coffee in bed wishing me a happy 13th year wedding anniversary, my kids being in a very good mood for a Monday, and dropping them off to the bus and school in sweet, happy spirits. I got to my studio and started doing the Twitter, Facebook, CNN rounds and my heart sank. Makes me very sad to be raising my children in these unsettling, scary times. I think everyone can agree that something is very wrong when blatant, terroristic, horrifying acts like this happen. Spent my day painting and my night holding my babies so tight. We need to wake up, not let our exhaustion and fears get the better of us, and keep going. No more prayers, just action. Demand action. Now. Always. For all of our sakes. ❤

Happy anniversary to my rock. My best friend and the most loving, thoughtful and patient man and father. Thank you for this fun, adventurous, chaotic life and for really seeing me and loving me the way you do. Love you most. #13 One of my favorite photos of us not at our wedding❤💕💫
We had such an amazing day at Storm King. Visiting this incredible place is one of our favorite yearly fall activities. Not all of the sculptures are interactive but this new piece, The Oracle of Lacuna by Heather Hart, was everyone's favorite this year. I was actually able to get a photo of the kids on it without the 20 hipsters that were hanging out on the other side. #sundayfunday #letthembelittle #beart #liveart #livetoexplore 🏠❤

Out of my comfort zone and back to the drawing board. Literally. God, I love puns. Took my first art class in a very long time yesterday and it felt pretty amazing to just sit and exist in an art studio with other artists and a teacher working, talking, looking at art books, and guiding and bouncing ideas. It is so empowering to work alone and I actually love the quiet time and to be by myself with my own thoughts and art but I also feel very isolated. This class came at the perfect time as my work and my life are changing and evolving. Looking forward to all that I'll learn and create there. Have a great weekend, friends! #monicashulmanstudio #alwayschanging #alwaysgrowing #ilovepuns

What fall looks like in my head. It finally feels like an autumn day in New York. I'm celebrating with some new work. Pretty sure she's done but will live with her for a few days before I decide. Happy *almost* weekend! Have a good one! 🍂🍁🍃 #monicashulmanstudio #makersmovement #artflowsessions #doingitfortheprocess

Going off of my obsession with black and white, almost finished with this new painting. I've been exploring new tones and shades and working from some of my photographs from my trip to Greece this summer and my archive. Hope to complete it today. Happy Wednesday! Hi, there. My name is Monica and I'm a mom, an artist and a photographer. I used to think that you had to be one thing or another in order to be successful and that success was measured in tiny boxes and if you didn't fit in one then you couldn't do anything about it. The list of things I like is super long but it includes stuff like run on sentences, yoga, being outside with my family, Sunday mornings, #selfies, getting lost in new cities, rose all day, good design and fun dinners. I think change is terrifying but it's good for you and it's important. I believe good things happen when you leave your comfort zone. I live for art, my family, and learning and growing from my mistakes (and I've made a lot along the way). Thanks for being here and for reading. ⚡️

Monday morning studio vibes. I won't have that much time here this week but I'm in between projects and starting to think about what will go up on the walls in this space. I've been going through some older work left over from previous shows that were in storage until now. Feeling like some of it deserves to be up in view. Sometimes I revisit my older work and it brings back a memory or it inspires new work. Lately I'm feeling very inspired by black and white photos and I'm starting to think about how to translate that into my paintings. It's been a fun process that I'm looking forward to sharing on my site soon. Stay tuned for a lot of new work in time for the holiday season. Here's to a beautiful week ahead! 👩🏻‍🎨💫⚡️
It's fall now (my favorite season) but it still feels like summer out. I'm not into the pumpkin spice anything but I am definitely ready for sweater weather. Who's with me?! 🙋🏻🌾🍁
