I had a phase of coffee addiction many years ago. Just one cup after another, not enjoying, but to stay awake. Few months ago was junk food. And few days ago was news. I deleted the news app and trimmed down my Flipboard - marked less articles on “donald trump”, “celebrity news”, “politics”, “royalty news”... I am happy for meghan markle and prince harry, but their relationship doesn’t enrich my life. And just yesterday I realized how I scroll through Instagram not with enjoyment, but with anxiety. Someone’s house is always better, brighter and cleaner. Someone always dresses better. Someone’s always traveling. I’m just constantly intaking things I don’t need and then beat myself up for not being good enough. On the other hand, am I putting out junk food or healthy snacks? More to ponder on.

There are places to explore and things to see in the future. Don’t go back to the easy and comfort where there isn’t enough space for you to stretch out. // Sometimes the thought of going back to 9-5 and get a steady paycheck seem comforting, but could I really do it? Most likely not. My future self would be miserable and wonder why I didn’t try harder when things got little tough.

The little signs that tell you things are going to be bright and cheery.
Remember when we were young we would stay up all night, then head to a local diner for breakfast at 5am?

My husband and I left baby with MIL and we went to get a (coffee) drink. We talked about what’s going on with our lives (sometimes living together doesn’t mean we know everything about each other) and how much we missed our kids.

It’s been over a year now since my second kid was born. And for over a year I didn’t feel like I was myself. My mood was always low, I didn’t have much energy for anything, I was not motivated, but at the same time I kept trying to act normal, kept trying to be motivated, kept trying to find solutions, which got me even more depressed. I tried to be kind to myself, “Hey, you are in a new marriage, you have a baby, you have a teenager, there’s a lot of things going on. Just take your time.” Still, I couldn’t take my time. Not when I want to be a happy family member, want to be creative, want to get back to hustling. One day last week I was meditating and thought maybe my postpartum depression is lasting longer than usual? Somehow that question led me to realize that what I need is a new identity. A new identity of who Bonnie is now. I was trying so hard to get back to that Bonnie before she met James, before she got married, before she gave birth to Henri, and before Venise turned to a teenager. We have a new identity each time we flip a chapter. I’m not a single mom struggling with raising a 5-year old and trying to make money to pay bills and put food on the table anymore. I’m a woman with a loving husband, two happy and healthy girls, siblings + good friends by her side, and a career that let me be creative everyday now. I walked into my office this morning and feeling there’s a large open space for me to do more, to give more and to receive more. 🙏🏼✨(Somewhere Over The Rainbow just started playing on my computer as I typed the last sentence.)

Sometimes to-go food tastes better when you re-plate it.

I try my best to drink just one cup of coffee a day. It’s hard when I’m not getting enough sleep at night and be mommy/business owner the next day. I end up eating more junk food. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I haven’t felt as good and hopeful as today when I left the house for lunch.
Took my mini date to to drink milk + eat chocolate and churro donuts made by @thecaffeinatedkitchen. This place isn’t just instagramable, it has good coffee too. // #bonnietsanglaeats
