{ A happy boat of cornflakes sailing off } Every year, Aunty Sofia sends her daughter down to our door with homemade rendang, lotong, kuih tarts, marble cake & big smiles. While for CNY, we get sent up bearing a heavy carton of mandarins & gifts. I love Singapore for our multi-ethnicity. Selamat Hari Raya Adilfitri all!

THOUGHT CORNFLAKES | I've always been confused that blue in Japanese is written as 青 (ao) as I thought the character means green in Chinese. Apparently not. It's more accurate to use 绿色 (lǜ sè) than 青色(qīng sè) in Mandarin, as the latter is also a bluish-green.
According to Wikipedia: "Ao (hiragana あお; kanji 青; adjective form aoi (青い)) is a Japanese color word that includes what English-speakers would call blue and green. For example, in Japan, green traffic lights are described as ao shingō (青信号), and blue skies are described as aozora (青空), as in aozora bunko."
Also, in a forum, someone wrote: "青 usually stands for the turquoise color or the cyan color in modern Chinese. In ancient Chinese, 青 also stood for extremely dark green (almost black)". 😮

Saw this door and got a bit curious about door history, so went to check it out. (Still wondering about how the shape of doors came to be.)
WikiP says, "Doors were once believed to be the literal doorway to the afterlife.." and frequently appear in literature and the arts, often as a portent of change.
Britannica says "Early doors, used throughout Mesopotamia and the ancient world, were merely hides or textiles. Doors of rigid, permanent materials appeared simultaneously with monumental architecture." The wooden door was the most common in ancient times, across civilisations including the Egyptians, Romans, Chinese and Islamic countries.

All the @musicandmakan performers were top-notch(had a fangirl moment seeing Leslie Tan of Tang Quartet). Also, there's just something about the way the violin sings through Yang Shuxiang that your soul responds to.

There's going to be so much learning up ahead!

Brother-in-law departing from his usual repertoire and cooking up a storm for the sister's birthday - stuffed rice roasted chicken, grilled beef, corn, pork, pasta salad and more. (Help, there were only 6 of us! Hahah.) So stuffed; so worthwhile.
