#ConservationCorner #MindfulMonday Many of the most popular places to boat and fish are also home to sea turtles. Being mindful can reduce the threat to sea turtles. It is common for us to treat sea turtles that have been either struck by a boat, entangled in fishing line or hooked.
When boating:
- Check your surroundings before starting the motor
- Wear polarized sunglasses for an easier view of turtles beneath the surface
- Abide speed restrictions and remain within the channel
- Avoid driving through seaweed patches where little hatchlings live for several years
When fishing - Use a circle hook - Remember to always recycle your monofilament line and never let it go in the ocean

Is this bringing any @univofalabama vs. @universityofga flashbacks?? Crimson and Uga both arrived on Jan. 9 a day after the National Championship. Both patients are greens with a buoyancy issue. Each turtle has been started on antibiotics and is being monitored closely. Keep up with both patients at marinelife.org/patients #seaturtlehospital

Providencia is one of our newest patients here. This turtle is a small adult female loggerhead. The initial blood work showed anemia and overall poor health due to starvation. Providencia was started on antibiotics and parenteral nutrition. We will continue to monitor her bloodwork closely as we treat her. Keep up with Providencia at marinelife.org/Providencia #seaturtlehospital

Sea turtle fun fact! The front flippers of a sea turtle share many of the same bones as the arms of a human. A sea turtle’s front flipper has phalanges, a radius, an ulna and the humerus bone! #seaturtle #seaturtlehospital #seaturtlefacts

During the cold we heat our sea turtle patient tanks. We make sure our tanks are over 70°. Healthy sea turtles have a better chance of tolerating the cold water but sick and injured sea turtles have a harder time. #floridacoldfront #seaturtlehospital

Thank you to the over 700 philanthropic influencers who descended upon The Beach Club on Palm Beach for the must-attend party of the year. We danced the night away while raising critical funds for Loggerhead Marinelife Center! All proceeds from the event will benefit Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s continued mission of ocean and sea turtle conservation. We are especially grateful for our committee members, sponsors and Lilly Pulitzer who helped make #BeachBashPBthe highlight of the social season. It's true, saving the ocean and sea turtles never looked so good! We can’t wait to see you next year at Beach Bash Palm Beach 2018. Check out the whole album on @beachbashpb Facebook page.

We know that the holiday season is a busy and hectic time for most and wanted this to serve as a reminder that tomorrow is the last day to make your tax-deductible gift online for 2017. No amount is too small, and every bit helps in our fight to save sea turtles and promote ocean conservation at this critical time. We could not continue this important work without you.
