I’ll never forget the day I bought these. It was January 1998, twenty below zero, snowing like mad and and I was with a group of folks visiting the famed Izmaylovo outdoor market in Moscow. It was so cold they told us, “if you realize you can’t feel your extremities, please return to your vehicle.” I bought them from a elderly Russian woman who was hand painting ornaments and she asked me to pray for her son who was fighting in the Russian army. I prayed with her on the spot and the interpreter and the lady wept as I prayed. The interpreter later told me that “praying on the spot” wasn’t something that they had ever experienced and they were deeply touched by the gesture. I grew up believing if someone says “pray for me”, I just stop and do it on the spot. It was a reminder to me that everyone you meet is struggling hard with something and sometimes a simple prayer can breathe new life into an otherwise cold and dreadful day. #ChristmasMemories #Prayer #InAllThingsPray

Me. 15 yrs ago. Times Square. I had hair. It was brown. #DearYoungerMe: Pray More. Worry Less. Have a plan. Don’t waste time on things that won’t last and don’t matter. Practice radical candor. Do what you’re passionate about. Keep your circle small. Value friendships and loyalty. Love without boundaries. #LessonsLearned

A snow day in Alabama was the perfect opportunity for me to get the mantle and our big Christmas tree decorated. Only two more trees and the dining room left to do... #Christmas #HelenaAL #holidaydecor #christmasdecorations

A view of the rose garden after this mornings unexpected snow fall. We have been in Alabama for over 17 years and this is the largest snowfall that we’ve seen. Actually, only the third such snow that produced any real accumulation during our time here. #RoseChat #RoseGarden #HelenaAL #LoveWhereYouLive #wbrcandme

“God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman” was being played on the grand piano by Marion pianist Miriam Nicholson as we entered the Lockhart-Mickleboro house. Note the lavish rose arrangement in the background. The Lockhart-Mickleboro House was constructed in 1860 and I must say the house and grounds were very nice indeed. This home was a part of the Perry County Historical Societies Annual Home Tour, Marion Alabama. #marionalabama #historicmarion #marional #historichometour

Saw this vintage painting of President Teddy Roosevelt and his family today at an antique shop. Interesting to note that in those days prior to mainstream media, these types of paintings were widely sold so people could see the President and his family. #marionalabama #historicmarion #marional #historichometour #PresidentialPainting #Roosevelt

Pie anyone? Our annual trip to the Perry County Historical Society’s Home Tour wouldn’t be complete without a slice of Buttermilk Pie from Pie Lab, Greensboro Alabama. Yeah, it’s a 15 mile detour, but well worth the trip. #PieHeaven #EatPie #iTravel4Pie #TravelAlabama @pielab_greensboro

It’s December 3 and despite several frosts and cool temps, we are still seeing a few roses in bloom. Found this bloom of ‘Mardi Gras’ in the garden this morning. I love this rose for its classic form, beautiful color and profusion of blooms. #RoseChat #Roses #December #floribunda
