#NoPeopleLikeRosePeople. These two “Mary’s” from the Ramer Rose Society in South Alabama are advocates for roses where they live. How do you advocate for roses in your neck of the woods? #RoseChat #Roses #TheTimeIsNow

Had a great time this weekend speaking to a capacity crowd at the Deep South District of the American Rose Societies Mid-Winter Meeting. I told the group “Old Keys Won’t Open New Doors”.. “What worked for organizations 10, 20, 30 years ago don’t necessarily apply today. We’ve got to be willing to step out of our comfort zones to reach a new generation.” Next campaign stop: Lafayette Louisiana for the Gulf District Meeting. #RoseChat #TheTimeIsNow #PersonalPortraitDevice

Looking forward to seeing all my rose buds this weekend in Gainesville, Florida. On Friday night, I’ll be casting my vision for the future of the American Rose Society. On Saturday, I’ll be leading a membership workshop to empower and equip local Rose Society leaders with insights and tools to grow their local rose groups. Hope to see you there! #RoseChat #TheTimeIsNow #americanrosesociety

One of the few times during the year that the garden is quiet. It’s ten degrees this morning. Our 180+ shrubs are at rest, preparing for another glorious season of blooms. #Roses #RoseChat #ATime2Think #solitude

❄️ Weather Event ❄️ #2 for the season calls for homemade vegetable beef soup (rocking recipe by Chef @jbpuck) and southern style cornbread. Not much snow and ice yet, but we are enjoying the soup nonetheless. #Soup #Cornbread #vegtablebeefsoup #AllKindsOfGood #whatredneckswhogrowroseseat #HelenaAL

About 3 1/2 foot tall, this cast stone French urn was one of a pair. Have mercy, I need a bigger garden. #CastStone #Urn #ContainerGardening

Couldn’t take my eyes off this antique French wrought iron gate. This type of craftsmanship is a lost art. #WroughtIron #IronMonger #LostArt #InBirmingham

Birmingham winters are usually a non-event; 3-4 days of below freezing temps then we’re off and running into Spring. This year has been an exception. Snow in December, below freezing temps dipping into the single digits on multiple nights has caught many off guard and without a place to come in out of the cold or even a winter coat to help withstand the freezing weather. My awesome team at the bank held a coat drive that wrapped up this week and over a three week period, we delivered over 750 items to the City of Birmingham’s Warming Station and the Firehouse Shelter. So proud to be a part of an organization that stands together for those in need. #ShareTheGood #Giving

Atop “Goat Hill” in downtown Montgomery sits the Alabama State Capitol. Built in 1851, you can see the Beaux Arts influence throughout this Greek Revival structure. Well worth a visit. #montgomeryalabama #statecapitol #Alabama #ipulledoverforthis

Made a quick trip to Montgomery today and took a stroll around the Garden District before heading home. This house on S. Perry Street is the official residence of the Governor of the state of Alabama. This neoclassical Mansion was built in 1907 and was acquired by the State of Alabama in 1951. Every Governor since has lived here. #montgomeryalabama #govenorsmansion #Alabama #ipulledoverforthis #alpolitics #oldhouselove
“Don’t let the noise of others opinions drown out your inner voice.” If I had done that, I’d still only have one rose in my garden. While everyone around me was saying “don’t waste your time”, that inner voice was saying; “dig, plant, grow.” Grow your garden, grow your mind, grow your world. I’m awfully glad I listened. #TheTimeIsNow #DontIgnoreWhatMatters2You

I don’t make resolutions anymore. I set goals. Goals that challenge and stretch. For rose growers, these three simple goals can change your world. They did mine. #GrowShowShareRoses #TheTimeIsNow #RoseGoals #RoseChat #Roses #newyear

I was out tying up canes of ‘Farmers Daughter’ on the fence yesterday and broke one off. Thought I’d try to root a cutting of it. I just used the “stick” method. What are your best tips for rooting cuttings? #Roses #GrowRoses #roseCuttings #RootMe

December 31st and we have a first in our Alabama rose garden; a bud and bloom on our potted shrub of ‘Red Cascade‘. By now all our roses are usually bloomed out but This groundcover rose is in bloom. It does great in a container and also as a Climber. Our variable weather patterns have our poor shrubs so confused. Frigid temps are moving in tonight to set the garden to rest. #LastRose #RedRoses #RoseChat #Roses
