We’re still seeing a few blooms in the garden and I just love the variation in color on this bloom of ‘Albrighton Rambler’. #Roses #RoseChat #EnglishRoses

November in Alabama means it’s time to close the garden fountain for the year. It is disassembled and given a scrub with a brush and warm soapy water. The lower and middle basins are turned upside down on the pedestal to prevent water accumulation. We reassemble and leave in the garden until the threat of freezing weather has past in early spring. I’ll miss the soothing sound of moving water in the garden. #FallCleanUp #RoseGarden #LifeAndRoses

We spent the last half of the afternoon walking through the Twickenham Historic District in downtown Huntsville. This storied residence is for sale and quickly caught my attention. The house was built in 1836 and was home to Thomas Bibb and family. He was Alabama’s first President of the State Senate and the second Governor of Alabama. It is said that General Sherman occupied this house during the Civil War. This is my kinda house but for one exception; no room for roses... The ancient magnolias are too beautiful to be removed. 😂🌹#historichome #oldhouse #huntsvilleal #OldHouseLove

Lowe Mill is the largest private arts facility in the United States. This thriving artist community is housed in a former cotton mill in Huntsville Alabama. Constructed in 1900 by Authur H. Lowe, this brick structure became Huntsville’s fifth textile mill. #LoweMill #RedBrick #architecturelovers #Architecture #BrickWork

Next stop on my day trip to Huntsville is Lowe Mill. This veritable enclave for artisans and makers in Alabama is an innovative approach to expose people the vibrant Huntsville arts scene. #LoweMill @lowemillarts #visithuntsville #ipulledoverforthis #TravelAlabama #Alabama

Spent the day with a buddy of mine poking around North Central Alabama. The Winchester Manor, is one of two beautifully restored homes in the little knock about town of New Market Alabama. Reminded me of the town where the film “Fried Green Tomatoes” was filmed #TravelAlabama #NewMarket #OldHouseLove #ipulledoverforthis #Alabama

Had the privilege of hosting Mr. Don Lupo at our quarterly Community Service Lunch & Learn. He serves in the Mayors office as the Director of Citizens Assistance for the City of Birmingham and gave a compelling presentation on the needs of the homeless in our city. #LunchAndLearn #inbirmingham #birminghamAL @cityofbirmingham

It’s November and “Climbing Pinkie” is blooming her heart out on the back fence. This is one climber that is in some form of bloom all season long. She’s had some die back this year, but has rebounded splendidly. #RoseChat #Roses #earthkindroses

Out in the garden early this morning and am amazed by the intricate bloom structure and color variations of ‘Clotilde Soupert’. This 1890 circa polyantha is as fragrant as it is beautiful. #Roses #GrowRoses #RoseChat

“If you're going to be passionate about something, be passionate about learning. If you're going to fight something, fight for those in need. If you're going to question something, question authority. If you're going to lose something, lose your inhibitions. If you're going to gain something, gain respect and confidence. And if you're going to hate something, hate the false idea that you are not capable of your dreams." #APassion4Roses #TheTimeIsNow #ThePoetsWife

‘Tahitian Treasure’ greeted me in the garden this morning. Grateful for a few final blooms of the season. This Floribunda is a great garden rose that requires very little care. #Roses #RoseChat

Back home and out in the garden this evening. Found a few blooms of ‘Peggy Martin’ on the pergola as I walked beneath it. A “wow” rose in early Spring, it always surprises us with a few blooms in fall. #RoseChat #PeggyMartinRose #Roses #ClimbingRoses

It was so good to see my friend David Clemons this weekend. A master hybridizer and exhibitor, he’s made the rose world sit up and take notice of his Thoroughbred roses now grown and exhibited around the world. #myARSStory

After my talk today to a capacity crowd at the Pacific Northwest District of the American Rose Society Meeting where I challenged those assembled to do things differently to grow the American Rose Society, a lady walked up to me and showed me this quote. She said “this suits you to a T.” You’ve got my vote! “Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” #MyARSStory #RoseChat #TheTimeIsNow
