Multi-talented Kabir Tijani, @kbhandwork, shared his story and passion for drumming. With his bare hands, he made the drums speak. I was even dancing behind the camera, forgetting I was recording.
.
One thing KB said that I would not forget: “People always say, “A tree does not make a forest,” but they often forget it can start a forest.”

Today’s conversation took us through Egba communities, villages, towns, and ended up inside palaces. I learned more about traditional governance and leadership structures from this incredible couple, Chief Abraham and Chief Mrs Anuoluwapo Shoyoye, who have found a balance between their Christian faith and traditional values. We have to have another session sometime!
.
Oh, don’t mind my cropping. I just had to get those shoes into the shot.

I had an incredibly interesting interview with Otunba Isaac and Chief Lola Omoniyi. Otunba means “The king’s right-hand man,” loosely translated. It is an important position with responsibilities; it’s not just handed to anyone. .
The story continues, and I can’t wait to get to part two. I’ll keep you posted.

I had an incredibly interesting interview with Otunba Isaac and Chief Lola Omoniyi. Chief Lola Omoniyi has set a high standard for what it means to be a “Yeyeoge” where she was given the title. “It’s not just about outward beauty,” she said, “but inner beauty and and your attitude as well.”
.
The story continues, and I can’t wait to get to part two. I’ll keep you posted.

Almost there. Working through the kinks and complexities of a working typeface—simplifying, cleaning stray points and rounding up wayward Bézier curves. Type design based on Ànkárá fabric, (Dutch Wax Print), beloved all over Africa.

After the launch of Ray Dirks’s book, Along the Road to Freedom, I stopped to see the special exhibition of winning entries for a national photographic competition, for the second time and cast my vote. No, I can’t tell you which one I voted for. You go and vote too! :-)

The National Summit on Racism was held here. For a city that stood up to say no to racism, the iconic Canadian Museum for Human Rights is the perfect image to celebrate and say, “Happy Birthday, Winnipeg!” Here’s wishing all residents well and visitors welcome. Cheers!

Arguably, this may have been the most important startup transportation in the formative years of a nation.

It was still warm to touch, fresh out of the oven, and I happened to be right there. Well, let’s just say it was delicious.

Why bother to change the colour when it’s all black and white already? This is what we woke up to yesterday, so I’m sending it off to warmer climes. @mrsunesis, I invite you to the black and white photo challenge.

Diane Barrett, one of the Co-presenters for the Braiding and Styling event at the gallery tonight. I’d never look at a braid the same way again. Learned so much!

Chief Isaac and Chief (Mrs) Lola Omoniyi of Lola’s Beauty Gallery, made a short presentation about the history of braids as a hairstyle at the gallery tonight. I had no idea!
