Bee flying weather is leaving us to be replaced by the rain, but I’m so glad our surviving hive had a long weekend to fly, and that they, alongside the over-wintering hummingbirds, got to spend a lot of time checking out our blooming rosemary. Back to winter.

Real talk: This is my table, and this is the cleanest it’s been in years. Actually my whole kitchen is (minus a couple of cupboards and one drawer). The Gentleman and I ate dinner at the table tonight, and that may very well be the first time since we started dating, because couches and television and mindlessness. So we have a clean kitchen, and minus my bill paying paperwork, only one little box of pet things went to the basement and everything else left the house — there’s no looming piles waiting to be dealt with at another time. Now we drink a little pot of bed time tea and listen to jazz and talk about this week and my heart is quiet. There are so many places in my home that cause me stress by their state of disarray (disaster?) and this truly felt like a huge page turn. I hope everyone has a peaceful week and are able to find places to carve out joy.

This year I’m trying to solve some ‘use’ issues by finding places where I’m consistently throwing away items and come up with creative and useful ways to limit the waste. First up: I’m making little wash cloth / make up removers to reuse this year. (I thought I’d need 10 but then realized I should have closer to 20, or maybe even 30. I decided I’ll knit up two a day for a while, so welcome to my break time knitting.) I found two little lingerie bags I can alternate using and hang on a hook in the bathroom to put the used ones in and then throw the lingerie bag in the laundry. Then The Gentleman (yay for him being in charge of laundry!) doesn’t have to keep track of a bunch of 2 and 1/2 inch squares, and I can bring up the bag, switch it out and repeat. Now to knit. I’ll let you know how it goes. So far, day one worked awesome.

once upon a time, I lived and worked on a train and I spent my summers going across Canada. not only do I have some hilarious and amazing stories from this period of time, I also have so many friends scattered across these two countries and my love of Coffee Crisp came into focus. I had an ‘emergency kit’ (when you travel for a living, you have a little go to bag to help deal with travel drama) and mine contained mini coffee crisp. Santa brought me one in my stocking this holiday and I am so looking forward to reminiscing (and no, I’m not sharing with Chippy).

1. Introduction: Hi! I’m Jonena. I share a 103 year old home in Astoria, Oregon with my extremely supportive husband (who I call The Gentleman here in IG-land). We have these two old retired racers, Savannah and Owen, and two cats, Lewis and Mr Charlie Chips (and we may have just adopted a stray outdoor cat). We have a garden and chickens and are beekeepers and both love to cook and fill this old house with projects. I love fiber arts: I’ve been knitting for 20 years, am a poor quilter, and even worse (but determined to try) sewist, am relatively new to spinning and started releasing knitting patterns on Ravelry last year. I dream of one day not having to have a day job (yes, that will probably be called retirement), but until then I’ll keep filling my free time with the things I love.

my neglected spinning wheel. I’ll be joining @the1764shepherdess for the #spin15aday2018challenge (thank you so much for the motivation!). I love spinning and find it a meditative practice so adding this into my day is important to me for several reasons. I’m probably not going to post everyday pictures, I may post to my stories or aggregate pictures, but I’ll figure out ways to share my time. for now, I’ve got a couple more hours to get this beauty dusted off and to reclaim the stool from the knitting project holder it’s become.

I’ve had to steal a pair of The Gentleman’s reading glasses - and voila! - I can see up close, without a headache. Sigh. This is forty. And quick break knitting on some #rosecityrollers with my awesome project bag from @the1764shepherdess (are you joining in #spin15aday2018challenge starting next week?) and my favorite @ink.bags for all the things. Okay. I have to go back to work now.
