#latergram Lunch at Le Volet Qui Penche! I had escargot to start: the snails weren't overwhelmed with garlic and butter, so I could taste how delicious the snails were. My meal was tripe with morels and Calvados. Served with potatoes. The server explained that I should crush the potatoes and spoon the broth over it to soak up the flavours. He explained this was a local speciality. So delicious and rich! M had a pork chop with garlic cream sauce, mashed sweet potatoes (more butter than sweet potato, he said), and a vegetable cake. We shared a dessert sampler and coffee, which contained Ile flottante, a chocolate mousse, a creme brulee, and a coconut panna cotta. Wonderful!

#latergram We spent most of yesterday wandering around Bayeux. Unfortunately, all the museums are closed in January, but there was much to soak up.

#latergram Bayeux is such a lovely wee town! Here is our hotel annex (on the right) and the path up to the main road.

#latergram Delicious dinner! Amuse bouche of goat's cheese and anchovy on a bun. My appetiser was a salad with foie gras, radishes, lychee jelly, and toast. My main was roasted pigeon with super sweet mashed parsnip and a ravioli of champignon mushrooms.

#latergram Selfies from Omaha beach. The beach is so wide and beautiful: I can see why this was and still is a vacation destination. Imagining how hard it was for the soldiers to cross this wide, exposed expanse is horrible.

#latergram The craterous landscape of Pointe du Hoc, where six 155mm guns threatened the Utah and Omaha beach landings. Luckily, the guns had been moved from their positions and the structures remained unused.

#latergram We decided to line up for lunch at a vendor who set up shop in the town square. The smell of grilling meat was irresistible! I had, essentially, a pork chop cut in half on a baguette with mustard. SO GOOD! M had the homemade sausage with onions and mustard. I should've gotten the onions too, which were delicious.

#latergram M & I at Sainte Mère Église. The church spire has a dummy paratrooper commemorating John Steele, who was caught on the spire on D-Day. Unfortunately, the Airborne Museum was closed.

#latergram One of the stops was Brécourt Manor (well known to watchers of Band of Brothers) and the nearby monument for Easy Company. The map drawn by Dick Winters before their assault is engraved on the monument.
