I love travel but one of the great things about being home is a regular running schedule. Got my eyes on a sweet 50k trail race in April. Time to get serious!

#TBT to deep-dive discussion in Dublin with @danny__avidan on all things Thin Lizzy. And the merits of foam-rolling, of course!

Appleton, WI has the highest alcohol consumption rate of any city in the United States. In fact there are 7 Wisconsin cities in the top 10!
With just under a month to my 7th sobriety anniversary, this past week I shared how it has affected my life and heard some testimonies that cut to my marrow. So many people live in shame and are afraid to step into the light. Breaking the silence and speaking out is the most empowering thing one can do in these situations.
I was I inspired by the folks who have chosen to fight their demons and take their lives back.
It’s never too late.

An incredible end to a monumental week! Thanks to everyone who came, listened, and said hey this week. Back to France in the morning but leaving a piece of my heart in Appleton.
I first met Tim through running in Paris. Now that we live in different countries, it’s more difficult to run with him. But when we do, oh boy! Best conversations and (almost) effortless miles. This week hanging out has been the greatest! Onward!

Over the past six years, @timmeier1981 has walked beside me through my darkest days. His grace, wisdom, humility, encouragement, and leadership changed not only my life, but countless others. To be sharing a stage with him this week at the Global Connections conference in Appleton, WI, is bonkers.
Took a month off social media but I'm BACK!

October was SO cool. Got to speak a some rad places in France and traveled to Dublin to spend 48 hrs with Seán and some incredible new friends on a tour bus. It was an honour to open the #ReadyPlayer3 show at the National Stadium and see the massive positive impact my bro has on so many kids. Truly inspiring!
I'm so thankful for our time together, Seán (@jacksepticeye), and for the kindred spirits we met along the way.

Special thanks also to @wwiishu, @mortemer, @egofaptor, @thebrentlilley, @jackwa1sh, @jpincorporated, and @danny__avidan for the hugs, hospitality, and humour. Y’all are wicked cool!
Heading to the Wisconsin on Friday for 10 days to share my story with more people and get some runs/hangs in with ma boy @timmeier1981 so feeling pretty pumped.

Been in a writing cave for a few weeks on various projects and the past 6 days have been pretty loaded. The next 5 weeks are filled with travel and different talks in France and the States. This morning I finished my last talk and apart from some slight tweaks, I'm ready to GO! I love the process of writing and seeing what's in my head come to life! It keeps me sharp and makes me realise that I've still so much to learn. When I first started writing stories and thoughts in journals at the age of 12, I never imagined that putting words together like a poetic jigsaw puzzle would bring me such much joy--and occasionally add grey hairs to my head ;)
Thankful to have outlets like writing, drumming, and running that allow me to express myself and collaborate with kindred spirits.
Now, time for my lunchtime run!!!!

31km (20 miles) this morning in 2:27 on a banana and a glass of water. By km 27 I was starting to die but rallied to finish out my long run. Even when you're empty there's still more in the tank than you realise. The key is learning how to push through and get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

The last three days have been meetings, appointments, Skype calls, project deadlines, and a few sleepless nights. I didn't get to run at all until this evening and boy it was welcomed. Sometimes the pendulum swings towards the above-mentioned business but I know that in order to maintain balance it needs to swing back towards being outside and free. There's always going to be one more email to send or thing to do. Sometimes you gotta stop what you're doing and escape into nature.

That one time I went running with my buddy Matt in Columbus and got lost. We ended up in a homeless area that was littered with tents and the most random stuff imaginable. We had to jump a huge fence and run back on the freeway!
True story.

Throwback to 2010 and taking Scott and Jenny Jurek around Versailles castle for a run. Love the ultra community.

Running always seemed so dumb to me. I'd be driving around looking at people jogging thinking, "these people need help." I ended up running because of a drunken bet. I ran 15 minutes that first time 9 years ago and I nearly died. My lungs were raw from coughing and I wanted to vomit I was so out of shape. I was a raging alcoholic and heavy smoker at the time and I think the only reason I returned the following week was stubbornness. I kept doing it for a few weeks until I could run 45 mins by myself without stopping. That's when the runners high kicked in. It was like floating. All the synapses of my brain were firing and both my mind and body synchronised in this state of hyper-awareness. I eventually ran a marathon after some 10 milers and half-marathons. It was fun but not life changing. It wasn't until I read Ultramarathon Man by Dean Karnazes (@ultramarathon) that my life changed. He wrote about the fabled 100 mile foot race, the Western States Endurance Run (@wser) and I couldn't believe these guys running 100 miles in under 20 hours! Since then I've done that distance and pretty much everything in between. This afternoon as I ran the trails during my lunch break, I thought of how much joy running now brings me. It may never have happened had I not been prepared to try something new. Comfort zones will do nothing for your personal edification. It's through challenge and repeated application that we achieve the unfathomable. Don't avoid the struggle, embrace it. And NEVER underestimate what your capable of!

The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.

Two weeks ago had the pleasure of running in my favourite place, Chamonix. Starting in 15 minutes the #utmb will kick off. A 171 km run around the Mt Blanc massive with 10k of vert! Wishing all a great and safe race. And gooooooo @kilianjornet! Show em who's the king!

The last few days have felt like an uphill battle both physically and emotionally. I can't find my form on the trails and I'm a bit more irritable and down than usual. I hate feeling like this but it happens. For me, I need to be honest about this to those around me and that includes my followers here. To always be "on" and posting "inspirational" stuff is not sustainable or even true to real life. The tendency to post the polished version of myself needs to be countered with the warts-and-all. Otherwise I'm a fraud. •

I'm grateful to have many people who love me with my depressions and mood swings. Going through difficult times is never fun but it shows you just how beautiful marriage, friendship, and community really is. Instead of curating an unattainable online image, I choose to embrace the messiness, the flawed, and the ordinary. In a world dominated by being the best, I want be vulnerable and let the raw, unfiltered world hit me with all it has ✌🏼 •
