Seen most of the mountains in the United States during the last six months. Decided to take a day trip across Idaho to revisit the [Lower 48's] best. Unbelievable

We spent the last few days in Great Basin National Park, our twentieth of the trip. Stuck in Central Nevada, right alongside the Utah border, it's an incredibly diverse place that includes caves, the oldest living organisms on the planet (bristlecone pines, pictured), the desert, glaciers, lakes, and a few 12–13K peaks. Yesterday morning, I did one of my final long runs before a big marathon through the park, and it was beautiful from mountaintop start to sagebrush finish. Go to Great Basin if you ever have the chance.

This is Alice; she is almost nine. One of my favorite aspects of this trip has been taking her places I never expected to go myself, let alone with her, and watching her explore so enthusiastically. She's somehow getting more adventurous. Yesterday we took a long hike through Callville Bay on Lake Mead, where the Hoover dams the Colorado. She scared some antelope, crossed a legitimately thin ridge, and splashed in the waves. She's been sleeping ever since.

Because @realdonaldtrump is an awful person and president, I imagine it will be a while before we have a new national park. So it was nice to visit America's newest national park (No. 59 overall), Pinnacles, established in 2013. We took Alice on a trail run that wound through caves, did a little climbing, and plenty of hiking. A strange and wonderful place.

We let Rollie run through the snow at Crater Lake today. Good idea category.

Pretty surreal experience today, visiting the childhood home of Kurt Cobain, which his family has been trying to sell for years. More to come.
