What a life I lead when the sun breaks free As a giant torn from the clouds What a life indeed when that ancient seed
Is a-buried, watered and plowed.

Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit.
— Edward Abbey

@alexkphoto treks to the top of the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes for a glimpse of the last light of day in Death Valley National Park. We stayed out well past our bed time to shoot star trails and do some light painting. Hiking over a mile across the sand dunes in the dark felt like we were the last survivors of some mission gone awry.

Racing along the interstate in an @escapecampervans just before the Nevada and Arizona border, @alexkphoto and I were watching the sun slowly set.
We had turned off the radio and were frantically calling to each other the sun's current progress as we continued east. The challenge was that this portion of the interstate was carved into the hills and we had large mounds of dirt on either side of a six lane highway – with no sign of relief. Ultimately, we had resigned ourselves to pulling over as soon as we could and grabbing some roadside shots from atop the view-robbing-bluffs.
We pulled over to the side of the road, piled out with our gear and scrambled to the top of the hill to try and catch the sunset. To our surprise, when we reached the top, we discovered a quiet river valley on the other side. The Virgin river was snaking right next to the freeway and directly on the other side were tiny farms that lead up to Virgin Peak, which was turning amazing shades of blue/purple. I belly crawled underneath the barbwire fence and began feverishly sprinting down towards the river, with just my camera, tripod, and head lamp. The show was amazing. All I had to do was step back, and let God do his thing. It was the first time I understood the adage '#f8andbethere'. #borntoroam

Roaming the Narrows in Zion National Park in late November was a challenge of courage. Not because of the chance of flash flood, the cold, the wet, or even the dark. It was challenging because we only had one direction of travel – forward. No other options. We certainly weren't going to turn back. As the early afternoon light faded we were driven to press forward and explore. Our drive, to find and discover the depths of the towering walls, and increasing solitude. To listen to the silent message that the walls and the water had to share with us.

Facing downtown San Francisco from atop Alamo Square felt surreal to me. The City seems so energized and distinctly different than any other place I have ever been before. Its dripping with secret passage ways, unique eateries, and a diverse population of citizens. Alamo Square is rad spot to see the history of the City mixed with the urban innovation that She has become known for. San Francisco will continue to mystify and intrigue me. #sanfrancisco #goldenstate #sf_insta #fullhouse #landscape #landscape_lovers #landscapehunter #bestpicofsf #norcal #bayarea #cali #borntoroam #f8andbethere
