After making the switch to City of Hope, I was pretty much over the moon. Everyone is genuinely kind and caring and super informative. But a few weeks ago, I took a genetic test to determine if I have a BRCA gene mutation, and the test came back positive for BRCA1. What this means is I have a 50-80% chance of developing either breast cancer again, ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, or even pancreatic cancer. I will more than likely have my ovaries removed and since I already opted for the bilateral mastectomy, that will minimize my chances of those two cancers. I'll be on the same treatment plan (chemo ➡️surgery ➡️ radiation), but the medication will be more intense. The news hit me pretty hard, but hey. Cancer just comes to fuck shit up, right? And that's what it's doing. So whenever I come across your mind or thoughts, say a little prayer - because I am certainly not looking forward to being menopausal in my 30's.

The nurse asked, "Did you lose your hair to chemo?" And I said, "Yes, but I shaved the rest." She said, "Hmm. The bald look suits you. Not many can pull it off, but you look fantastic." So I took a pic and posted it without a hat or a beanie or a cute Snapchat filter with bunny ears. This is what I'll look like for the next 9 months or so. I have to accept it and own it because it is my reality now.
Like or don't like, I didn't post it for likes, I posted it to remind myself ALWAYS that my hair doesn't define me and neither does this fucking cancer. #fuckcancer #fight #win #survive #mysurvivalstory

I'm officially a patient at City of Hope. After my absolutely horrendous first experience with the terrible oncology group (that I was forced to go back to because a. I don't have a PPO plan through my job and b. my medical group wouldn't approve the transfer of care) [messed up/incorrect labs being requested, calling 30 mins prior to my appt to tell me it was impossible to receive chemo that day, sending me all over the place and ultimately denying me care due to THEIR error til I went and ripped them a new one so I could receive my first chemo treatment], I filed a complaint with my medical group. As it turns out, this newly contracted oncology group has received SO MANY complaints they had to hire someone/create a new position JUST TO TAKE THE COMPLAINTS. Yeah. Shitty af. After further investigation into my complaint, the medical board decided it was in my best interest and for my own health and safety that I be transferred to City of Hope, effective immediately! I was also assigned a case manager to help me with all my referrals, appointments, scheduling, phone calls, etc so I can be stress free during the rest of my treatment. THANK YOU to anyone that has been here for me during this truly stressful and scary time, whether it be phone calls, messages, visits, gifts, thoughts, prayers...I appreciate you. ❤

If you've chosen to remain silent during this time of distress, I don't see how you can call yourself a friend of mine or even just a good human being. So you can kindly see your way out for the rest of this ride. I won't block you, I'm not Petty LaBelle. But you don't have to come along, you can go now. You know who you are. ✌
