This time last year I was preparing for my first visit to the Serengeti. I’m itching to go back. December temptations?

I was amazed at both the quality and the level of respect present in most of Bremen’s graffiti/outdoor art. Unlike in many cities, beautiful works were almost completely free of tags or damage and even the older pieces looked like that had been respected. Wandering the area between the City Center and Östliche Vorstadt led to discovering the best murals. #citybreakgermany #ad #nordictb #bremen #streetart
The best part about a little rain? Umbrellas for photos! In the background you can see Bremen’s last remaining windmill, which also hosts Kaffee Muhle, a delightful restaurant with mouth watering eats and a view out over the earthen ramparts. Apparently in spring there’s also a lovely field that grows as an urban garden just out of frame to the left. #ad #bremen #citybreakgermany #nordictb

I’m pretty sure I met the guardian spirit animal for Bremen’s Östliche Vorstadt area. He’s magnificent isn’t he? The only toll to pass was a few scratches. #citybreakgermany #bremen #ad #nordictb #catsofbremen

Public transport in Bremen and the surrounding area has been fantastic. Fast, clean, super easy to navigate, and well marked across both buses and trams so the guessing/anxiety over where you are is never a question or issue. The city is small enough to be walkable but the convenience of the public transit system makes it that much more convenient even when heading out to nearby towns or suburbs. #bremen #ad #citybreakgermany #nordictb

‪The stonework of Bremen’s main cathedral (St. Petri) is awash in beautiful details and craftsmanship. One of the reasons I always love visiting cities known for their merchant heritage. #ad #citybreakgermany #nordictb w/ @bremenerleben
Enjoyed a charming afternoon spent exploring the town of #Worpswede which is about 40 minutes bus ride from downtown #Bremen with Bus 670 (direct and super easy). The town is a brilliant German farm town famous for attracting and producing incredible craftspeople and painters which to this day are its main draw. I suggest looking it up for a full list. You’ll definitely recognize some of the pieces they’ve produced. Lots of fantastic museums and a gorgeous taste of the local countryside. Also, had a delicious meal at the train station restaurant which is a restored historic building full of furniture and designs by Heinrich Vogeler and boasts amazing local food, including the comically names “green garbage” dish of the day and local winter delight featured in this album. #ad #citybreakgermany #nordictb #art #vogler #germany #countryside
Bremen’s town musicians - in honor of the Brothers Grimm and their fairytale about musicians that set out for Bremen but never made it. The musicians (the four animals here) appear throughout the city and are usually up to some sort of mischief. #ad #citybreakgermany #nordictb #bremen #brothersgrimm #visitgermany

The faces in #Bremen’s City Hall are incredible. From knights and dragons to beautiful young women and grandmothers - the detail work is captivating. Would have loved to take more time to slowly sort through all the layered faces and small accents. The scope of the work in the main room makes it easy to see why it is a #unesco site. Also some very unusual items- eg the jaw of a giant blue whale that made its way up the river and then died - an interesting reminder that whales of various types were present in the region at one point. #citybreakgermany #nordictb #travel #ad
Lunch in the wine cellar of a UNESCO World Heritage site that boasts a 600 year history in a painted alcove where the glass and paint looked easily 100+ years old? Hard to beat. Amazing flavor in the soup, but the highlight was the Number 52, a local special described as “Crispy fried haggis style oat grout’s dish of pork with fried potatoes with bacon and onions, strips from gherkin and apple compose”. It was delicious, and the first time I’ve ever seen anyone talk haggis (a favorite) outside Scotland. The venue also has another room straight out of Phantom where they were preparing a musical evening that looked incredible. The walls are also adorned with 250 year old massive wine casks. I also gained an exciting insight into the meaning of the animals depicted, but you’ll have to wait for the blog post for that. A special thanks to @bremerratskellergastronomie and @bremenerleben for the amazing lunch. The price point was also less than you’d pay for a mid-level meal out in Copenhagen. #citybreakgermany #nordictb #bremen #foodtodiefor #ad #foodie
All roads lead to / from ... Bremen? I’m thoroughly enjoying learning about the city’s history - particularly its relationship with the Hanseatic League and various trading partners. Talk about extremely old relationships and ties to the Nordics. Spent the afternoon today on a wonderfully in depth walking tour. #CitybreakGermany #nordictb #ad

Settling into @bremenerleben and loving the artistic blurring between street graffiti and advertising/shopfront decorations. This is one of several I’ve seen but definitely my favorite. The city is clean, charming, vibrant and has an abundance of personality while feeling quite intimate and very safe. Just finished up a delicious dinner at EngelWeincafe just around the corner from this piece. #citybreakgermany #nordictb #ad #germany #igersbremen
