I remember coming up as a young hot-headed skier. There was this prevailing thinking that women just didn’t shred that hard, that they would never be as good as us guys. @lynseydyer was one of the first ladies who, for me, blew this tired social construct clear out of the water with her flashed big mountain lines and huge airs in Jackson Hole. These days questioning the prowess of the female elite is out of the question. But that doesn’t stop Lynsey from pulling out all the stops when it’s time to throw down. You know, fer da girls. .

Props to @lexidupont on her beautiful profile piece in the current issue of @theskijournal. Honored to have contributed a couple of two page spreads to the piece. Check the link in my profile for the teaser, or even better, go pick up a copy of this fantastic magazine. Print is not dead!
Certain lines give me butterflies while shooting. Lines like this, when the end of the 3,2,1 dropping countdown means a full commitment, full speed rip that won’t end until the slope relents some many hundreds of feet below. At times like this, I’m thankful to shoot with great riders who have already done all of the calculations and are ready to smash the line with confidence and style. Big ups to @kcdeane for the full send last winter at @eaglepassheliskiing for @eddiebauer.

I’ve come to accept the fact that I’m getting too old to be in the running for a round trip to Mars. So I’ve found the next best thing, an aerial exploration of Canyonlands National Park. Otherworldly is an understatement.

Appearing from afar as jumbled buttresses of red rocks, upon closer inspection revealing soaring laser cut lines of mathematical perfection through the purest Wingate sandstone; this scene repeated countless times upon the sprawling canyon landscape.

This is what leaving paradise looks like. Driving past Supercrack Buttress on the way out of Indian Creek is a tough thing to do. Some people manage to avoid it for weeks, months, maybe even years. While my first foray in this desert paradise was only a few days long this time, I know I’ll see this view from the other direction sooner than later. Thanks to everyone who makes this magical valley so very special.

Contemplating a very committing move on my first taste of desert tower climbing. This was the beginning of the spectacular third pitch of Rimshot in the Bridger Jacks. Photo courtesy of @climbwadeharder.
A little behind the scenes look at one of the beautiful routes I shot with @kyehalpin for the @dpreview #FieldTest in Moab.

Now that this project is wrapped, it’s time to head down to Indian Creek to recharge the batteries. Holler if you’re in the area!
Thanks to @marwood_abroad for the shot!
Incredible sunset riding on the canyon rim with @tysonswasey and @c_skilz to finish out the @dpreview @getolympus #FieldTest here in Moab.
Thanks to @marwood_abroad and @beckergram for the fantastic project!

Yesterday morning we took an incredible sunrise heli ride over Canyonlands with the doors off and cameras blazing. What a way to see the sights! Now time to get up close and personal with the excellent rock climbing below.

This might be the best 30 seconds of video I’ve ever captured. Audio on for best results. I’m a proud papa.
This is @lexidupont blasting her way toward another mandatory air. She stomped it. She stomps most things, and then she laughs, hard. Take a trip into the positive mind, the loving soul and hard charging body of Lexi in her just released film #LoveToYourMother.

Early season boosting with @drewtabke last year while field testing the @getolympus em1 at Revelstoke. This year, we’ll be shooting another camera test, but we’re aiming for desert instead of mountains. Open call to Moab mountain bikers interested in a paid gig in early Nov. DM me for details!

Bam! 💥 .
Shoot with the riders who have been at it for a while. They have the cleanest methods.

It's not like people make it seem on social media. Kids don't come out of the womb as ready-made adventure partners (read on, this post is much more celebration than complaint). On a week long road trip through the desert southwest, I strapped on my climbing shoes for about 20 minutes total, we probably hiked less than 5 miles all told, and we made it about 100 yards into the Narrows at Zion before Cedar became more fascinated with throwing rocks than exploring one of the world's most famous canyons.

No, there was no genuine 'adventure' as I would define it, and anyone who tells a different story about life with a little person is perhaps taking a bit of liberty with language. Here's the thing, though. For Cedar the adventures were endless. Immense rocks to climb, airplane cockpits to visit, marshmallows to roast, for the first time ever!!!!!! It turns out that shuttle buses and gondola rides are every bit as thrilling to a two year old as red points and first descents are for his parents.
The thing that is so often lost in this 'look at me!' landscape of social media is that it's not always about 'me'. It can be about others. Sharing experiences with children has nothing to do with getting them out to accessorize your adventures. It's about being a loving, caring, excited guide for theirs. Thanks to @cedarrinck and @luciasayyah for giving me the opportunity to share this beautiful life as we make small steps into the great outdoors. Soon the steps will grow, let's enjoy the process.
