Mostly just happy that I didn’t drop my camera 🙃

I’ve been following @sav.cummins on Instagram for a long while now, so it was awesome to take her climbing photography clinic at the #womensclimbingfestival this past weekend. Lots of fun hanging in the air photographing @savhappy and hanging out (on the ground) with some talented badass people. The clinic really reinforced that this is something I love and want to pursue more.

Smiling cause I’m really happy with my decision to spend my birthday weekend at the #WomensClimbingFestival. The past year had some ups and a whole lot of downs (that Blink 182 song may be right 🤔...). However, I’m excited to move forward into this next rotation around the sun. I have some kinda crazy goals & plans and I can’t wait to see what happens! Thanks for all the birthday wishes & a special thanks to Gala, Alayna, & Alicia for the birthday tacos 🌮😊

Exactly six months ago I️ woke up in tremendous pain, unable to move my head or neck and unable to climb for 4 months. Today I️ TR’d a 5.11d. It wasn’t clean and it definitely wasn’t pretty, but I️ made it to the top. I’m really happy with the progress that I’ve made recently since being cleared to climb again 🙂 The Women’s Climbing Festival has been awesome so far-it’s really inspiring to be surrounded by so many strong rad badass women. 📸: @laytravels

“be brave + kind🌻
you may not always be the smartest person in the room, and you will not always be the strongest or the funniest or even the most talented. but you can always be brave and kind. these are two things you should try to be of every minute of every day for the rest of your life. yes, those other things are good, but these two things are far greater and more rewarding.” @jldmuchowski posted that quote a few weeks ago & it has really stuck with me. I’m trying to be a little bit braver & a whole lot kinder.
If you happened to miss my previous posts and my obnoxiously long instagram story on Friday - in honor of @laytravels’s 25th birthday (today! 🎈), she and @livelaughclimbon climbed 25 pitches and hiked 25 miles this past weekend to raise money for the Women’s Sports Foundation. Their donation page is still up- go donate! Happy birthday Alayna 🍰 Thanks for learning to make mozzarella with me and convincing me to sign up to the Women’s Climbing Festival ⛰ Excited for more adventures in Tennessee.
“You can’t fall if you don’t climb. But there’s no joy in living your whole life on the ground”

Injury Update (unrelated to this photo): After 4 months being unable to climb, I was finally cleared a little over a month ago (rope only). On Friday, I finally got to climb on real rock- the first time since Greece. My shoulder still doesn’t feel totally stable and belaying still hurts a lot, but there’s been a good deal of strength improvement lately (thanks to my awesome Physical Therapist @pilatesandbeyond_leanne). Getting psyched for the Women’s Climbing Festival in Chattanooga in less than two weeks (fingers crossed I don’t manage to injure myself before this climbing trip 😜).

These two badass ladies crushed it yesterday on part 1 of their #25in25for25 fundraiser. 25 pitches at the Gunks climbed in 12 hours. Currently they’re about 4 hours into 13 hours hiking the Devils Path. AND they’ve already raised over $2,700 for @womenssportsfoundation. Support their efforts and go donate! Click on either of their pages for the link.

Couldn’t think of a good boat pun. Canoe?

It’s been 24 hours since @cotopaxiquestival ended. I’m crazy tired and very sore but had a great time competing with #TeamWhatTheDuck. We walked almost 15 miles, did some crazy challenges, and saw parts of the city I might not have seen otherwise. Walking around Manhattan in the rain at 3am might not be an experience I want to repeat anytime soon, but I’m really glad @magz2525 convinced us to do this. We may not have ended in the top 10, but we did hang out in 6th for a while! Can’t wait till next year so we can #DuckShitUp again. 🐥

I’ve always joked that I was Riley’s fourth favorite in the family. Up until recently, during meals he would go to everyone else for food first. But if I was sad, he always knew. I’ve recently been having a lot of anxiety problems (the reason for my 6+ week social media hiatus), on a particularly bad day Riley came over and sat on the floor near my chair. He just stayed there next to me for hours. He always knew when one of us needed him.

For years we’ve kindof joked that Riley was like a cat- that he had nine lives. For a dog that electrocuted himself when he was just a puppy, he had some pretty good lives. Even so, Riley had been sick for a while, with enough health problems and medication to rival mine. Yesterday, we had to put him down. It was one of the hardest things we’ve ever had to do and we are all heartbroken. Riley was the best dog we could’ve asked for and we were lucky to have him for almost 15 years. I love and miss you Riley dog ❤️🐾

more mountains, more memories
“This is utterly ridiculous. And absolutely beautiful”

I’ve recently started reading The Push by @tommycaldwell (quote above). I’m only a few chapters in, but it’s really making me feel inspired and connected to the sport even though I can’t currently climb. The book is excellent so far and I’m excited to keep reading! In other news, less than 3 weeks till I get to see @rwevans3 ! Hoping by then I’ll be able to start climbing- at least a little bit. In the meantime, I had @jay_climbs make up a leg workout for me that won’t aggravate my neck/back/shoulder cause currently I’m going stir crazy. #ClimbLikeSasha

mountains on my mind

This past weekend was awesome. Bonfires, fireworks, maple-everything, and of course- spending time with @loganmiszencin and @dkingiv The views were breathtaking and it was a good reminder to spend more time outside, even if it can't be climbing.
When your best friend is moving across the country so you run away to Vermont for the weekend ⛰🌲💚

I changed the desktop background on my work computer to this photo. The other day someone came up to me and asked if I spend all my time wishing to go back. Yes, yes I do. (Portia, Kalymnos. June 2017)

Spot the Alana! ________________________________________

It’s been over a week since I've climbed and I’m starting to go a little crazy. My body is taking a much needed (even if not wanted) rest. Saw a sports medicine doctor yesterday (thanks @drjordanmetzl). Hoping to get my neck/back issue fully resolved soon so I can get back on the wall without pain
Today's gloomy weather definitely has me missing 10 days straight of perfect temps and sun on Kalymnos. #loveisouttherecontest
