"A silhouette racing car is a race car which, although bearing a superficial resemblance to a production model, differs mechanically in fundamental ways. The purpose of silhouette cars is to provide a manufacturer with a tangible link to their consumer product offering so as to derive maximum marketing benefit from their investment in the sport. They also provide spectators with familiar car models with which they can identify." -wikipedia.org/silhouetteracingcar #supersilhouette #ma60 #ma61 #mkiii #supra #Toyota #Mazda #rx7 #sa22c

Anyone remember this car? Although this is not a vintage tuner car, I believe it is worthy of remembering. The B80R was a Nissan 180sx drift car with genuine R35 body panels grafted on by the tuner Bee*R. Lambo doors and a front-hindged R35 hood are there for style points too. To make it even more insane, Bee*R swapped in a 2JZ-GTE for huge horsepower. It participated in the "Drift Muscle" series created by Keiichi Tsuchiya. #Bee-r #beerracing #thedriftmuscle #r35 #gtr #240sx #s13

The RAYS VOLK TE37 racing wheel was developed in 1996 in an effort to create a wheel that would perform as well on the street as it would on race tracks. The name TE stands for Touring Evolution. The final two numbers came from RAYS target weight of their smallest sized wheel at the time of 3.7KG for 15x6JJ. #volk #te37 #raysengineering #rays

To the surface, the Z31 300zx may just look like the first Z that.. didn't look like a Z. However the 300zx paved the way to many firsts for Nissan. It also had the company's first V6, making it again the most powerful Japanese at the time. This title was also held by the 280zx Turbo before it, which (*now keep in mind this was in 1981) made a whopping 180 horsepower. It was considered too fast by the Japanese Ministry of Transportation, and never sold in Japan. The VG30ET V6 turbo found in the new Z eventually made 240 horsepower, and Japan would even get the 200ZR model in 1987. This was the first model by Nissan to have the ~210 horsepower RB20DET engine. This also happened to be their first DOHC turbocharged inline-6 as well. This engine would become a favorite for Skyline fans two years later in the R32 Skyline GTS-T. But most importantly, it had the most Tron looking digital dashboard ever. #Nissan #z31 #300zx #vg30et #rb20det #skyline

"International A-class professional motorcycle rider Satoshi Tsujimoto began racing motorcars and labeled himself as a "Drider", a word he created by combining "driver" and "rider". Tsujimoto entered Japan's Super Taikyu endurance-race series with a custom-built Civic. He was paired with co-driver Yasukichi Yamamoto.

The base car was a EK9 Civic Type R released in August 1997. The Type R itself was based on the EK4 model, aka SiR. The car was equipped with the more powerful 182 HP B16 engine. In addition to the engine upgrade, the Type R also received a significant amount of body reinforcement. However, this EK9 was quite heavy in race trim, and it was unable to produce the desired results on the track. In frustration, Honda ordered a special light body made especially for the Super Taikyu race, enabling the EK9 to demonstrate its full potential. In the 1998 Super Taikyu Racing Series, the car grabbed three class wins and two runner-up finishes in its first five races.

In the season finale at Fuji Speedway, they drove cautiously on a faulty driveshaft, and limped to a 5th-place finish after their main rivals had dropped out. As a result, Tsujimoto and Yamamoto put a 9-point lead on the 2nd place team to seal their series title." -Gran Turismo 4 (2004)

Photoshopped the creases off this awesome picture of an old Impul B31-R poster. Impul pulled 300 R31 sedans with redtop RB20DETs, then installed a full body kit, fully redone interior (imagine how much an Impul steering wheel would fetch..), stiffer suspension, Impul wheels, and a Calsonic exhaust. They were only produced between 1985 and 1986. #Nissan #r31 #impul #br31r

Saw this amazing video shared by @3836factory. The audio was muted in some areas, so I replaced it with a sample of "Accelerated" by "Miami Nights 1984". #midnightclub #MiddoNaitoKurabu #miaminights1984 #mazda #rx7 #fd3s #Porsche #964 #abflug

It's kind of always #throwbackthursday here at Circuit Dreaming, but in honor of the Tokyo Auto Salon, why don't we look back to its glory days? This picture of the Maziora EK Civic looks like it could have been taken there 20+ years ago. Fans of the 6th generation Civic could better determine the date of this picture by this car's headlights. They changed in 99, but I struggle to tell the difference. I stumbled across a pretty funny eight year old article about this by @stickydiljoe looking for picture credit and info. Search "Maziora EK" if you're interested in finding the article and learning more. Maziora is actually a brand of chromaflair paint (hence the rad paint job) by the Nippon paint company. #maziora #Honda #Civic #ek9 #ek6 #8thgencivic #Civichatch #te37 #tokyoautosalon #circuitdreaming

Did you know V6 swaps are somewhat common with SW20 enthusiasts? Although the factory 3S-GTE is held to a very high regard, the 1MZ-FE 3.0L V6 is a somewhat simple engine swap. #Toyota #mr2 #sw20 #1mzfe #buddyclub @buddyclubusa #circuitdreaming
