"In the United States there's a Puritan ethic and a mythology of success. He who is successful is good. In Latin countries, in Catholic countries, a successful person is a sinner. - Umberto Eco. (Been rattled by this quote. Discuss!) 📷: @danielcwhite

Filter that rule through any movement. Works pretty much every time, huh?

Transition is tough. It could be a change in leadership, a realization that your brand needs to pivot, or the need to inject some new life into your culture. Starting to book Weird Thinking sessions for teams for the end of the year/early 2018. We've traveled all over. Would love to come to you! Message me for some more info!

It's Monday. Let's make wonder out of ordinary things this week.
Not sure who the kid on the right is but super proud of the guy on the left: @steveryancarter who will officially be taking over the helm as Lead Teaching Pastor at Willow Creek. On top of being a great storyteller, he’s been consistently genuine, uncommonly servant hearted, and optimistic ever since I’ve known him. Can’t think of someone who deserves it more. Steve, @heysarahcarter, and their family show me often how to love like Jesus.

Wish they would've taught me this in elementary school instead of teaching me how to use safety scissors.
I've been spending time on my new friend, Mama Moo's farm. She's been telling me everything she grows holds a lesson from the Spirit. We both came across this caterpillar just chilling on one of her plants... he's the kind that turns into a monarch butterfly. I stopped and realized how I've settled for the untruth that caterpillars are ugly until they transform. Our weird, unfinished selves are full of wonder and astonishment. Don't wait for perfectection. You're already wow-worthy.

I heard a story the other day of a "leader" dismissing this brilliant person because she had too many tattoos. Guys, this is why I'm doing this. This is why I'm writing and making stuff about our weirdness and the gift that it is. Walt Disney wrote a secret manifesto, Mr. Rogers got cancelled after his first few years on air, and Big Bird almost quit before he even began (well not the bird... the guy who played him). Anyway, here's a free workbook and podcast series full of those stories and more as well as some thoughts on how you can share your weirdness with us, who need to receive it. (photo = my new friend @okcello). Link: cjcas.com/toolkit (also in bio).

Our country is divided. Some days it feels like we’re moving backwards. But every time I hear this guy’s story I’m reminded of the hopeful truth that creativity has the power to change things for the better. He's the voice behind "People Get Ready" and "It's Alright." Very honored to finally share this short film we made about musician & civil rights leader, Sam Gooden. It might be my favorite thing I've created with people this year. Amazing DP work by @danmartinie too. Check it out @ cjcas.com/sam

Well here it is! 9 new videos, a print workbook, and a bunch of other stuff you can do at home or at work, flying solo or with a team, at your own place. So I created this fun podcast series this summer about how misfits start movements (specifically the ones above). It’s got a kickin’ soundtrack courtesy of @johnnyreubonic and also comes with a digital workbook I made that helps you find your own weird statement. Released it for free. My only hope is that you share it with others! Download the whole thing now at cjcas.com/toolkit (link in profile).

A CJ PSA: My new website is LIVE! It feels like I’ve been working in a cave since January doing a lot of behind-the-scenes work, so this is going to sound like a lot, but wanted to update you all. Since the beginning of the year, we’ve traveled around the country capturing stories from remarkable elderly people, hilarious kids, and workers with weird jobs that they loved turning them into short film series for different studios (the first few are on the website now). At the same time, I started working on a manuscript about our weird imaginations and why they’re there on purpose. Today, I’m here to announce that my FIRST BOOK (hopefully not my last), Get Weird, comes out with Hachette Publishing next Fall!!! I’ve also completely redesigned my consulting process and created a bunch of new online tools to help artists, entrepreneurs, and change-makers implement #WeirdThinking into whatever they’re building. Here’s the thing: While some of this has felt like fulfilling a life-long dream, looking at all the work I’ve just released, it’s VERY clear to me how imperfect it is... still...even as I approach 32. Any hopes of putting something out there without any room for improvement has been painfully stripped away from me this year. And I’ve slowly (ask @kellycasciotta) become ok with that... I humbly hope you are too! So all this to say: if you like fun, weird, helpful, and not-always-perfect stuff, please check out cjcas.com. Special thanks to @danmartinie @sophyg @danielcwhite @mallorymayhew @charlotte_renee and the team at @thefeddagency for helping me this past year.
Been humbled in the best way today by friends creating from what’s inside of their souls. #story2017. #noteasy #weneedit
Had a blast teaching at @themovechurch this last weekend on the divine gifts of #weirdness #wonder & #imagination

I feel like I've been living in a cave since January, making stuff that hasn't gotten to see the light of day for months. But very very soon, I finally get to "ship" some stuff. Can't wait to share it with you! 📷: @kristenmfields 📍: @thelodgefranklin
