From /Tragedy of the Commons/ by Garett Hardin, 1968 (2/2)
"Every new enclosure of the commons involves the infringement of somebody's personal liberty. Infringements made in the distant past are accepted because no contemporary complains of a loss. It is the newly proposed infringements that we vigorously oppose; cries of "rights" and "freedom" fill the air. But what does "freedom" mean? When men mutually agree to pass laws against robbing, mankind became more free, not less so. Individuals locked into the logic of the commons are free only to bring on universal ruin once they see the necessity of mutual coercion, they become free to pursue other goals. I believe it was Hegel who said, "Freedom is the recognition of necessity.""

From /Tragedy of the Commons/ by Garret Hardin, 1968 (Part 1/2) "Therein is the tragedy. Each man is locked into a system that compels him to increase his herd without limit - in a world that is limited.
Ruin is the destination toward which all men rush, each pursuing his own best interest in a society that believes in the freedom of the commons. Freedom in a commons brings ruin to all.
Some would say that this is a platitude. Would that it were! In a sense, it was learned thousands of years ago, but natural selection favours the forces of psychological denial. The individual benefits as an individual from his ability to deny the truth even though society as a whole, of which he is a part, suffers. "

So so so tired but I can't help thinking about the expanse of the sea that is out there and the concrete walls that I'm kept within that are meant to protect me from other humans(?!?!). Life is interesting but the waves are therapeutic and m a bit overWHALMEd by the amount of work to be completed come the end of the week HEHE!!!!! DED.
The moon was huge and the sky was the the pinkest I've ever seen it as, but these were the ones who kept our hearts all warm and cosy with so so so much love and care. I have been soooo blessed by their patience and willingness to help us all the time (they had to sleep in their caravans and at their friend's places for us to get enough space in the house ). Thank you @aimm_portugal for one of the most amazing experiences of my life!!! It's been a privilege :')
Spent the last week fulfilling my Moana dream and I really wish I could go out into the sea every day!!!! My lips are chapped and preserved from all the salt but like ITS OKAY?!?! Part 2/2

And the full circle comes back - how then do we truly find freedom? If the pursuit of things within the dimensions of this realm is really just a mere directional pursuit, then perhaps there is something beyond this realm; perhaps there is something or someone that gives freedom. And maybe the freedom we think of in little obstacles to pass are mere constructs of the mind in an attempt to achieve a freedom that the physical and mental capacity can comprehend. /
For true freedom to exist, we must first understand where freedom comes from, why it is taken away from us, and how to get it back. I therefore conclude that in order for freedom to exist, there must be a point of origin. And it being an idea means that the origin must have the capacity of thought. If so, then there indeed must be a freedom giver. /
And if we, humanity as a whole continually seek this freedom because, after all, freedom is often equated to life, then maybe innately, we are seeking the freedom giver? And if it is /indeed/ innate, then would that also mean that the freedom giver is the creator of human life?
Part 1/2
/Thoughts while walking the doggo/
TLDR: Freedom shi semo??? /
Tend to find humanity in this relentless pursuit for this thing called Freedom - in as many ways and in every way possible. What /is/ it about freedom that we want? And what does it mean to attain it anyway? Every passing generation pursues freedom in different ways, and the funny thing is, i don't think there is an end to it. It's just one of those "heading north" ideas - it's no more a destination than it is a process. Yes it is something so so sooo highly sought after by humanity. /
Which begets the question (and many others that follow) - is it innate? Is it something we, as humans, or as living creatures in general, posses? (It seems to me that the idea of freedom is more than just the physical act of freeing a bird from a cage;) The idea of freedom we pursue goes beyond the physical, into the mental, the ideological, (the spiritual, even). If it is indeed innate, then where in the big bang or the theory of evolution did it become wired in us (if these were, indeed true)? Because in evolutionary terms, it is counter-intuitive - procreation inhibits true 'personal freedom' and full autonomy.
/
Following that - what then is the polar opposite to freedom? Oppression? Slavery? Who, or what causes it? What is the ~force~ that inhibits the attainment of freedom? If the inhibition of freedom is akin to death, then /why/ do majority of the oppressed still live anyway - is there something more to life than just the /attainment/ of freedom?
If so, then who, or what is it? How much, and to what end, can one little checkbox off a list give freedom? The real question is rly SEMO IS FREEDOM RLY????

This morning I caught the sun pouring out some light (I absolutely love the island of NTU in the mornings, even though I've never actually lived there) and I thought about what a privilege it is to be able to love and give out of an overflow of being filled!!! So so so many uncertainties about the future at this juncture of a mid-uni crisis and there are days when I feel stifled by being in a place where my heart feels no burden for. Yet! yet! yet! I think it has been a season of learning how to pull through nonetheless - sort of a different kind of perseverance and resilience. I suppose it's eas(ier) to push for something you value and love and are passionate about. But there are also days when we are called to live a spirit of excellence no matter what the circumstance and when the end goal doesn't even seem relevant. Guess it's one of those Seasons, but I dare say that faithfulness really makes room for joy!!!!!! #96penniesworth
