#palaisgarnier: 1,980-seat opera house built in the late-1800s. the ceiling features a painting by marc chagall and an eight-ton chandelier, which was made famous when a counterweight tragically fell and killed a member in the audience. the event later inspired a scene in leroux's novel, phantom of the opera. | 🎭

#atlasmountains: there are several women's cooperatives producing argan oil in the mountain valleys. widely known for its cosmetic qualities, local berber women use it for medicinal & culinary purposes. these ladies work tirelessly to extract the oil by removing the outer shell, then grind into an almond-like paste. cooperatives like these help improve the economic status of women in the community. | #👸🏽

#marrakech: woke up this morning in this moroccan riad, a traditional house with interior garden courtyard. located in the center of mellah, the old jewish quarter, the building dates back to the 1540s. like many riads in the area, it now operates as a hotel. but honors its long history with its finishes, techniques, and even its name. | @riad_azoulay

#danflavin: my favorite work at the chinati foundation. this installation stretches across six u-shaped buildings containing light barriers at the end of each corridor. the barriers hold two different colored neon bulbs pointed in opposite directions. | #AJgetlost
#chinati: the chinati foundation is located on 340 acres of land on the site of a former military base. the site was created by artist donald judd to preserve and present large-scale work by contemporary artists like judd, chamberlain and flavin. each piece is inextricably linked to its surroundings, including the desert landscape, artillery sheds, and former army barracks. | #AJgetlost

#elcosmico: 21-acre nomadic hotel and campground filled with vintage trailers, yurts, tents, and sioux-style tepees. we weren't lucky enough to stay in this one (called "kozy coach"). but we did find ourselves in a safari tent with enough wine and card games to enjoy the desert landscape. | #AJgetlost

road to #marfa: this week i returned from a six hour road trip through west texas to a middle-of-nowhere town with @alissamandel. almost entirely abandoned in the 1960s, the majority of marfa's land was purchased by artist donald judd as a site for his large-scale installations. judd's vision was to house collections of his and others' work on permanent display. lookout for more posts including installations, camp sites, and the night sky. | #AJgetlost

#instameet: a year ago i discovered @heatherdayart on instagram. i admired her work onscreen, but never had a chance to view in-person. when i found myself in oakland, i reached out and almost immediately she invited me to her studio. we chatted about life, art, podcasts -- and i walked away with my first purchase of original artwork. so glad it's by heather. and so glad we met. sometimes the internet is a cool place. | #🎨

the obliteration room: all-white domestic interior by artist yayoki kusama. visitors are handed stickers and encouraged to decorate the room as it gradually transforms into a blur of colors. the exhibit ends today, but will continue to leave a mark. neon dots cover sidewalks, street signs, and lamp posts across manhattan's west side. | #davidzwirner
