Henrietta Place - there's a lot of history to this lane.
.
Just around the corner from Henrietta Street, this was the site of the Linen Hall which opened for trade on November 14th, 1728. The Linen Hall was an enormous complex, extending all the way to Constitution Hill. It contained a large trading floor and 550 compartments or bays for the storage of linen. .
With the opening of the Belfast Linen Hall in 1783, the Dublin industry went into terminal decline and the Linen Board was abolished in 1828.
.
During the 1870s the Linen Hall was used as a temporary barracks by the British Army and it was taken over by the Board of Works in 1878. It was destroyed by a huge fire during the 1916 Rebellion. Very little of the original building remains. .

Huge thanks to @crokepark_official for giving us a sneak preview of its Skyline tour at dusk, and of course to @igersdublin for organising yet another fantastic meet up. There are amazing views out over Dublin from up there, as the sun sets and the city lights come on for the night.
.
Images of the view to follow...meanwhile here's under the Cusack Stand.

The Loop Line Railway bridge, alternately known as the Liffey Viaduct or the City of Dublin Junction Railway, constructed between 1889 and 1891 to link Connolly Station on the north side of the river to Westland Row on the south.
.
Here, it passes over Gardiner Street and Frenchman's Lane .

Back to the city...
.
I've always been a big fan of laneways...back alleys, rat-runs through the city. I've gotten to know Dublin fairly well over the years...but luckily my friend Cormac McMullan knows parts of it that I never even knew were there. .
I have him to thank for many of the locations in my photos. Sometimes we go on visits, nighttime tourists in our own city.
.
You see the place differently in the half light.
.
This photo, and more to follow, are taken in a fantastic network of laneways to the rear of Georgian townhouses between Rathmines and Ranelagh. Some of them feel almost like little country lanes. Amazing places.
.
I'm going to be back here a lot...
.
Check out some of Cormac's amazing photos here; https://www.instagram.com/dub_lens/

The Grotto - Glengarriff. .
Such an evocative place. The graveyard outdates the town itself. The first structure in this area was the nearby church. Much later, in the mid 1700s the town extended eastward from the bridge, the church and the graveyard. .
A plaque to the right says that the Grotto "was erected by the people of Glengarriff and district to commemorate the definition of the Dogma of the Assumption. Holy Year 1950" - I never knew it was an issue. .

The 19th century oratory at Gougane Barra, Co. Cork. Straight from some misty Celtic fable...such a sense of calm to the place.
.
You'd never guess that a year ago, that entire mountain behind the church was in flame...I've seen the pictures, it was an inferno. .
When we got here first, it started to lash rain almost immediately. Proper rain. Wet rain. You could barely see the church from where this shot was taken.
.
Then, after a shower, the mist lifted and the lake calmed to a mirror. Couldn't quite take in what I was looking it...I was giggling manically to myself as I tried to take it all in.
.
The place floored me.
