I had to take the opportunity to capture the rare sight of the Clinch River almost completely frozen. #tacoma #overlandappalachia #clinchriver

A few more flies today. A few were just experiments with materials and technique and one is a recreation of a fly I’ve had for awhile. #flytying #flyfishing

I’ve tied a few poor flies with poor materials before because it appealed to my DIY tendencies. Thanks to a generous Christmas gift from my in laws my tying equipment and materials got a major upgrade. I thought some old stand by patterns would be the best place to start. Plus, they could be tied without changing thread. #flytying

Taking the BBP for a 3 day Christmas bag. To me this is as old school cool as it gets in the pack world. #deadstock #beckerpatrolpack #eagleindustries

Not the coolest photo, but something I enjoy. Here are three examples of natural cordage I’ve made. First, a length of processed yucca fibers with a primitive hook attached, then some dogbane cordage attached to a piaute deadfall trigger, and last some very fine milkweed cordage I made from the fibers all from one stalk. That last one is about 5 ft. long and I have some more fibers from other stalks to add. I enjoy exploring how the different fibers are processed and how easily they are to work with. #primitiveskills #bushcraft #survival

It chops, it slices, it stirs, and serves. No joke the @eseeknives Expat Libertariat is an awesome tool. We intentionally only used it for our camp needs this weekend, and it tackled every task we threw at it. #eseeknives #expatknives

We got to hang out with @subtle_serpent_survival last night and we shot a quick pocket dump video. I rambled on so I hope he can use it. It reminded me that I hadn’t done an #edc post in awhile. In no particular order Seiko SKX171, @knobcreekforge54 James Gibson neck knife, @eseeknives Zippo, homemade wallet, @imodsak Farmer, Zebra F-701, handkerchief, and a few trinkets. #everydaycarry

Not surprised by #bestnine2017 Getting outside to fish, bushcraft, and explore in the truck is hard to beat.

What do you do when you get a new knife? Make a whistle of course. The @eseeknives HM6 has impressed the heck out of me so far. It handles the fine cuts on this project really well. #eseeknives #bushcraft #primitiveskills

I’m pretty excited about the @outdoorx4 Gear Guide that’s on its way to mailboxes and newsstands. The best part is you can already check it out online at the link in my bio. Also, the discount code “ox4mag” will get you a 15% discount on subscriptions, back issues, decals and more on the site. There’s a lot of great gear included in this issue from brands like @eseeknives @pteclights @getlostbox @xpedition_gear @kuhl_usa @biolite @hydroflask @garmin @gearaid @goodtogofoods @bomberproducts @tred4x4 and so much more!

Took a little trip down to the lake bottoms for a few cast. No luck, but I did catch this shot of the Tacoma. I’m making a point to hit the trails as much as possible during these colder months. #toyota #tacoma #cvt #cvtfamily #arbusa #tennessee

The PR4 sheath was getting some good character so I decided to give it a hot wax treatment. This new old Zippo has gained a place in my pocket since I got it as well. #esee #eseeknives #eseepr4 #zippo #bushcraft #bushcraftknives #edc
I have a million things to be thankful for but specifically I thank God for my wonderful wife, our new home, our great family and friends, and all the other blessings I receive every single day.
P.S. The sunsets at the new house aren’t half bad either.

This is what people normally do when they have to wait in the car, right? Also a (another) good reason to keep a fire kit in your vehicle. #flintandsteel #knobcreekforge
