You can paint all the 🌈💕🦋 you want but art that's "not political" is still taking a political stance by ignoring or disavowing the facts and history behind the imagery. We have a responsibility as artists to educate ourselves about how the politics of images affect culture and communities.

Goofing with the family at my cousin's wedding 😜💍 "I don't always go to weddings, but when I go to weddings, I go to weddings." Congratulations Daniel and Lindsey! 🥂#foreverthefields #jcmemes

This Instagram bullshit happening in front of Barbara Carrasco's mural tonight at Union Station. The mural chronicles the history of LA with a Chicana perspective, translation: US history and the history of my ancestors as told by someone with an inside perspective. It's only up for a few more days so I'm thankful I got to see it. #dtla

This exhibit at @riversideartmuseum blew my mind. My great-great grandfather was a foreman at Colton Cement Plant, which I learned was a major supplier of the cement that was used to construct California's Spanish Colonial Revival architecture-- a key part of our state's identity. It's a trip to drive an hour south and learn about your family history and I'm grateful to see it being recognized and taken seriously. We built this state.

Made a big commitment yesterday and bought a #7yearpen. It's supposed to last for seven years provided I don't lose it or start a drawing series with ball point ink. #maybeiwill #goodvibes
Some drawings of mine that are published in Ohne, Prickelnd, Sanft, a zine featured in the Ural Industrial Biennial of Contemporary Art. A quick portrait of Yuk Hui, some cords that allowed me to zone out and listen but not listen at the same time, and a crude ear accompanied by some notes from Berlin. #uralbiennial #yukhui #digitalobject
It was a big 'ol art weekend here in LA and I got to see lots of people I haven't seen in forever because sometimes I just hideout in Long Beach or Fresno or somewhere between there or something. Here's some images from and not from @pstinla at @hammer_museum @vpam_arts @eastern_projects_gallery and brand new work from @aarondelacruz at @castaniergallery 👌🏽#therewillbeartistscarpoolingacrossLAtocollecttinybuttons

It's always amazing to watch your friends visions come to life and be part of making it happen. Here's @mr.raulbaltazar and @geneticwindsongs El Chavo del Ocho cruising down Chavez for the East LA Mexican Independence Day Parade on Sunday. They played the techno remix of the theme song on repeat the whole time too. 😂😂😂

One of my favorite things about being an artist is talking with other artists about our processes. So I was happy to talk with @soniaamaliaromero today about her work and get a peek at her new stuff for Dia de los Muertos. 🦋💀 next level! ⬆️

Late night sculpting, getting my hands full of paper mache goop 👋🏽🗞on the assist for my boys @mr.raulbaltazar and @geneticwindsongs as they build an epic float for the parade this weekend.
I finally got to see Tonya Ingram read onstage. I saw her read when she first arrived for grad school at Otis and today she celebrated her 26th birthday by launching her first book of poetry. What a badass.

Prague is beautiful like a vampire movie and a little bit weird. These photos include a statue of a boy with a golden penis that people rub for FERTILITY (really), a gargoyle with a chicken on its head, the Žižkov TV Tower complete with creepy giant shadow babies crawling up the side, and the Old Town Bridge Tower built in the 1300s.
