This may seem small, but from today 32 homes in #Khandel will have dustbins for the first time. Thanks to our youth group for helping paint them and to the people of the village for getting behind our idea #cleankhandel #ics4change #pravahics
Today is #InternationalDayOfRuralWomen and this is Kamala, my host mother. She works all day in the fields in the heat of the sun, cooks all the meals, runs the house and has brought up 3 girls (all now married) and 1 son (still at school). I can't imagine how she does it. Is this the life she would have chosen for herself if she'd been given the choice as a young girl instead of being married off? Im not sure. These rural women are the backbone of villages like #Khandel but they don't get the recognition they deserve. Today, at least, let's celebrate women like Kamala. #PravahICS #ics4change #ruralwomen

Another bloody lovely sunset from Khandel
Today #TeamKhandel held our first Community Action Day around cleaning up the village. Our youth group and students from the school rallied around the village this morning calling for people to clean up, then this afternoon we went round collecting oil drums which we will turn into dustbins for many houses in the village. It was a fantastic day and hopefully we've brought attention to making sure the village is clean and tidy. #pravahics #ics4change #sanitation #cleankhandel
These guys lost their Dad last year, which forced their Mum into working as a labourer and the sister to leave education and get engaged. The whole family are living on very little but are still lovely and welcoming. Vikas, the older boy, is one of our youth group leaders and has the biggest heart of anyone I've met here. He insisted we came for chai this morning and it was so lovely to be able to chat to them all - we left as their new older brother and sister #pravahics #ics4change #siblings #brotherfromanothermother

In today's ACD we learnt about how many products we normally use (toothpaste, nutella) have palm oil as an ingredient and how terrible it is for the world. I've pledged to tell my family and friends about it and think about alternatives! #pravahics #ICS4Change

Whenever I walk around Khandel I am followed by a whole load of children shouting 'HI' or 'BYE' at me. Sometimes it's a bit of a pain, but mainly it gives me a lot of energy and joy. #ICS4Change #PravahICS #Khandel
Out with the ladies (Renu, Avantika and Juliet) today talking to people in a separated part of the village about our project and getting them to come to our women's meeting tomorrow #PravahICS #ICS4Change

Enjoyed chatting to this man and his father in law. The older man remembers the time of British rule and insisted on a photo with me - with his safa on. I insisted his son in law wore my hat.

Avantika and I spent this morning spreading the word around the village about the new youth group and women's group for Khandel that we are helping set up. We hope these will allow people to talk about their dreams for the village and to be able to share ideas. We also snapped a load of pics with people along the way! #PravahICS #ICS4Change
Today we met with the Aganwadi workers in Khandel to talk about how we can work together to strengthen the Aganwadi and increase community participation in it. An Aganwadi is like a nursery for 3 to 6 year olds that also supports pregnant women, and is a key government programme. This work will be a really important part of our time here #ICS4Change #PravahICS
Happy Sunday evening from #Khandel Can't quite believe I've lived in this village for a week already, and I've been in India for 3. It's been a complete whirlwind and I've learnt so much. Now time to get down to the work to support the people in this community to make the change they deserve #pravahics #ics4change #sustainabledevelopment #sunset
My two counterparts Muzamil and Sabab on the roof of our host home. All of us from different places and different cultures. There'll be challenges along the way but I know we'll have a great time and we'll be able to learn so much from each other #PravahICS #ICS4Change
My street. Main house on the right (with the kid in the doorway), our room is on the left - past the pink temple. Nice and quiet until religious celebrations start!
