Stealin’ this and giving big shouts out to @tiffanywardphotography for taking the most fire and fashionable group photo of 2017. ¡FOTO FUEGO! The clique is Wu-Tang deep. #ZeeDeeParty still got me lifted and lovingly grateful for the friend family. #OneLove and #OneSmile. #TBT #36Chambers #FatherDallan, because I’m ordained like that.

Pausing at a crossroads...
“One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice--
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
"Mend my life!"
each voice cried.
But you didn't stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do--
determined to save
the only life you could save.”
— Mary Oliver, ‘The Journey’

Some fun pano action from the weekend. I’ve taken many visitors to these places, and each time I go, I take fewer and fewer photos. This is a good thing. These lands are slow and steady. For me, the coast and coastal redwoods heal, offer me greater perspective, and most of all, gratitude. I’m happy to take friends to all the liveliest scenes in the city when they come through, but I assure them that the best days are spent along the coast with good wine and better company. Cheers to the Left Coast. 🤙

“It's goin' all right
Soak it in
I mean this sponge site
Is coated in
The warmth of your tides
They're breakin' in
All across my coastline
Now it's what I'm wakin' in
To find
That heaven
Has bled
Into my bed
And I'm drifting

an evening with Bukowski (in Big Sur):
“she says
and I say what and she says
I think you’re full of shit
and I say baby you understand me...
You have to have been in love to write poetry
and you don’t know what it is to be in love
that’s your trouble...”

“Is anybody out there?
A lover's sigh
To be absorbed
But I let go, I slip alone
Sorrow weeps my lucid eye (lucid eye)
Abandoned bodies by numb minds
The universe salutes, Lucifer cries
Within heartbeats, you strum goodbye
Within your heartbeats, you say goodbye
I don’t know why
Is anybody out there?
Could we align?
Can we meet here?
Until the end of time”

I had the pleasure of speaking at one of my favorite employee-owned companies in the country this week! Butler/Till is fam. I decided to completely revamp my content the day before flying out as I had become inspired by a need to stay true to my own voice, my own experiences, and in particular, the sense of community and love I shared over the weekend. Was reminded of Pirsig’s “Zen...” and finally managed to work him into a talk! YUSS. I love these people and the culture of ownership and involvement they’ve created. I touched on the fact that community starts with self love and love and compassion for others... I also spoke on the need to always remind ourselves that we never should settle for where we are, our current successes, settle for the top of the mountain. We are never fully there. Embrace the process and understand that there, whatever it is, is always moving. Things change, society changes, people change, we change. No matter the struggle or the lows you may endure or the struggles we may experience as a collective, a community, leveraging our mistakes and failures for further growth while reminding ourselves to show each other the love we deserve is important. More important than ever, beloved. Create safety and allow for vulnerability in your friend groups. In these times, mutual compassion and support is the key to our overcoming. Act in love! ONE UNIFIED LOVE 🙏 Blessings, brothers and sisters.

“... of what can I speak save of that which is now moving in your souls?” This weekend, I was given the honor and privilege of officiating the wedding and union of my two best friends in the whole world. It was amazing celebrating their love and the love they share for their beautiful baby girl with so many of our closest friends and family. I will never forget this experience and want to thank everyone that was involved or gave a helping hand to ensure this was one of the best weekends of their lives. Love you for all time, fam! Thank you so much for letting me be part of your day and entrusting me with your love and the love of those you break bread with. I’ll never forget it! THE #ZEEDEEPARTY WAS A CLASSIC. BESOS!

I will never not be this kid. I wish I could sit down with him and tell him about the life he’d live, but that might take the fun out of experiencing all the tears and laughter for himself. I’d probably tell him that he’s going to experience the full spectrum of his feelings and emotions in his 29th year, that he’d shed all of those tears and bellow all of his laughter, and through all the missteps and pitfalls, he’d still love the hell out of this beautiful life he leads. That this life would in fact be an examined life. A genuinely beautiful experiment. Thank you for the birthday wishes, friends and fam. I hope that you love yourselves in trying times. You’re worthy of it. I promise. #ONELOVE

“My dear,
Find what you love and let it kill you.
Let it drain you of your all. Let it cling onto your back and weigh you down into eventual nothingness.
Let it kill you and let it devour your remains.
For all things will kill you, both slowly and fastly, but it’s much better to be killed by a lover. — Falsely Yours”

The dreamin' has been vivid lately. When I'm experiencing maximum burnout, my mind wanders to moments like this one here; longing to cultivate what I felt in this place and time, at this very moment as a beautiful white horse afforded me the luxury of his presence. In moments and places like this, and in the words of Henry David Thoreau, "our truest life is when we are in dreams awake." Happy day, friends and neighbors. May you experience something Quality and dreamlike in your woke state today. #tbt

New story from my work travels: Jack Stack is a kind of legend in the communities & companies I work with. His book began a movement more than 30 years ago based on workplace practices that encourage transparency & the involvement of every employee, no matter their rank, in transforming their lives & businesses, a number of which are employee owned. The event last week was inspired by Jack's book. I was given a copy the first week I started this work & journey. I've worked with many people that look up to Jack as a sort of hero, & I was looking forward to just shaking the man's hand at some point. I gave my favorite talk on how the rules of improv can dispel fear & improve relationships, communication, & cultures in both work & life. My talk immediately followed Jack's keynote address. As I'm about to get things rolling, none other than Jack Stack himself walks into my session. Stoked, my nerves left the room the second he entered. Out of true love for this shit, I believed I was going to kill it - Jack said I did. He even chimed in with a funny anecdote of his own. Afterward, in front of people I've admired for years as mentors, Jack praised me & said that what I had done was exceptional. I was floored! He later bought me a drink. Proudly drinking strictly Miller Lights, he reminded me of the working class mentalities I grew up around. At one point in our conversation, I noted his humility with so many people treating him like a superstar. He said, "I don't care to be a superstar. I only want to be a friend to these people." And then he looked at me with his hand on my shoulder & told me the most real shit anyone has told me about this work: "Guys like you & me are just one DUI away from falling from glory. We live in a world of people that eat their young..." The comment & candor was sobering & something I needed to hear from a guy like him. He later invited me to dinner with friends. I didn't pick his brain. Instead, I just observed the man & reminded myself that if people are going to judge you, it should be your truest self they judge, not some person you think others want you to be. Take ownership of your life & your story, beloved. Tell a better one.

Woke up thinking it was Monday after three days of work travel, but it's Thursday. Thank Yahweh. This view and the specks of water hitting your face as you look up at it are still the first thing stuck on my mental each morning this week. Milwaukee hotel rooms and white walls don't quite cut it.
Taking SQUAD goals to a new level with the #RADweekend family. Appreciate every single one of em. Still lifted. Now, a #MomentOfSilence... Jah bless.

Describing what you feel your first time in places like this can be difficult, with everything being so intensely humbling and at times overwhelming with the sense of smallness you feel, but I believe the words Bobby (@oldgrowthsf there at bottom right) used to describe his first experience in Fern Canyon this weekend were about as spot on as you can get: "FACE MELTING." Accurate. •••
Here goes, Monday.
