Last year you were inside me🤰🏾 This year you are a part of me!👶🏽💞 #WhyIMarch #womensmarch #raisingthelonious
Couldn’t #resist playing hooky today from work for a few hours to get high off of #sisterhood and share with my guys what #womanism feels like! Proud to have marched with some of my favorite women & the badass chicas from @girlsclubny; but even more proud to know that so many more of my ladies’ were there! Next year we need a bat signal so we can all find each other! For Real! #WomensMarch2018

This young man changed my life....he was one of the first people to see a light in me, an ‘otherness’ that he said was my magic. He loved and believed in me before I even knew how to do it for myself. We were family; like family we fell in out of like, but never ever for a second questioned the love. My heart is heavy today (and for some time to come), having not been able to say so many things to you, not having you meet Thelonious and him knowing his uncle Gary. But the one thing I do know for certain is that heaven just got way more funky! I love you #GaryJHarris to the moon and back. Rest well king ❤️🕊🙏🏾

@billieholidaytheatre and the @stellaadler present legendary poet, activist and scholar, Sister #SoniaSanchaz, in conversation with Sade Lythcott (@sade1111), CEO of the National Black Theatre as a part of the first-ever #BlackArtsTheaterWinterImmersion course. ・・・
"It's important to leave a legacy... of the history of Black people who have moved toward revolution and freedom; to leave a legacy of not being afraid to tell the truth, which you must accept the consequences for, but you do not have to be afraid." - Sonia Sanchez ✍🏿✨

As we begin to celebrate Dr. King this weekend, I hope we all take time to remember all of him. Soon we will see politicians and others give speeches, lead memorial marches and write posts about King and as Dr. Cornel West so pointedly says, "Santa Clausify him." But this year, let’s challenge others and ourselves to truly understand who he was. Many have King frozen in 1963 but to understand his moral fortitude and conviction, we have to go deeper. In 1963, he tells the world about his dream but by 1967 he says, "I must confess that the dream I had that day has at many points turned into a nightmare." In 1963, he's fighting for integration but by 1967 he tells Harry Belafonte( @sankofadotorg ), "I've come to believe that we're integrating into a burning house." In 1963, he is hopeful for America but by 1968, he was ready to give a sermon the Sunday after he was killed (he was murdered on a Thursday) entitled, "Why America May Go To Hell." I want to be very clear... Dr. King didn’t die as a national hero, but as an enemy of the state. He died that way because he was a #radical #revolutionary who was filled with an unwavering #love for #truth and #justice. #FredrickDouglass once said that, "A true #patriot is a lover of his country who rebukes and does not excuse it's sins." I hope we all find a way to live up to that definition of #patriotism. So before we put up that Dr. King post with a feel-good quote from him, let's think about who he really was, and push ourselves and others to align with that deep love for truth and justice. #MLK #ReclaimMLK #drmartinlutherkingjr #martinlutherking #Repost: @rashaddrakeford - Thank you for reminding us to stay ever vigilant about owning the narratives of our people & heroes.

Footnote: Check in on the ones you love during this time of year, especially the ones you don’t hear from or see too often. The cheer mantra of the holidays can be very isolating for some & does a huge disservice to ALL of the fine folks who suffer from seasonal depression - including myself.
Unmasking the shame, increasing our capacity for kindness & care and acknowledging our own mental wellness is a real gift that I hope you will take the time to give this season.
I am so grateful for this little guy in the picture (and the big guy too @thomaswirthensohn 😉) for being my greatest teacher & advocate. Thank you Baby T for loving mommy’s light & dark and showing me that there is always sunshine behind every dark cloud. You are my sonlight. Thank you for choosing me & forcing me to step outside of my mood to do ridiculous things like waiting in line to see Santa...twice! Love you little boy to the moon & back😘
